Didn't the twins just say they weren't going to pressure EP40 to leave & would only trade him if he requested a trade? Seems like EP most likely staying in Vancouver, for now.

EP40 isn't getting traded until either the Canucks become willing to retain on him/take a pretty bad contract back, or he regains his old form.

Canucks honestly don't have any urgency to move him either, so I'd imagine they just wait on him and hope he bounces back.

For a team whose Top 6 Centers are about to be Copp and Kasper, with $40M in cap space, they can probably get rid of him at full contract...

... Just not for much of any value back.

And I don't think they want to do that either, if he plays well you get a lot for him if you're the Canucks. If he doesn't play well you're in the same situation you are now with one less year on the contract.

There's no urgency to move him either because iirc he's happy there (god knows why). Canucks are also barely above the cap floor, so they need the salary anyways. Especially if there's other guys they want to move with big contracts.

I think LA trades for Gavrikov and they don't have the money to also trade for Pettersson.

Pettersson to Detroit after a Larkin trade makes sense but I have a feeling he wouldn't allow a trade there. Detroit just seems like it's in a mess of a situation and I'm not sure any player with a full NTC would particularly want to waive their NTC to go there.
Oilers should trade nurse for Gavrikov.

What are the chances that Pettersson elevates his play significantly from where he's at with Vancouver being the same, at best, or arguably worse if they tear things down further?

Just thinking out loud:

Kotkaniemi + Nadeau +

Svechnikov - Aho - Jarvis
Hall - Stankoven - Blake
Pettersson - Staal - Ehlers
Martinook - Jankowski - Carrier

Pettersson moves back to center after next season, when Staal moves down the lineup or retires.

Get the player evaluation right and that’s a disgusting offense. Get it wrong and damage is done.

Lower stakes, no more of the shitty clique, potentially adding Stenberg as a winger, an off season to heal physically and from his wife's public miscarriages.

It doesn't really matter what the chances are.

He is currently worth, if un-retained, probably next to nothing unless they take on a pretty bad contract back. If he improves, not even necessarily to 100 point level, but just gets back to being point per game, you get an absolute haul for him. If he stays the same, he would still be worth next to nothing as he currently is.

The only risk is he gets worse in which case you can't trade him anymore... which wouldn't really be a big deal because they have to hit the cap floor, and are rebuilding, so you would assume the cap hit won't be an issue.

I only really see a trade being done if there's a team that's willing to pay a lot for him.

Pettersson can’t help himself. The moment he’s in LA he’ll enter full on influencer mode. He’ll spend his days cruising on his scooter in overpriced designer clothes with his extra large forehead soaking in the sunshine.

His off-season work ethic currently is like someone whose momma always told him he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can’t imagine it once he’s there.

Saying that, I’d wait till LA is desperate and demand a 2027 unprotected 1st.

That’ll give us another lottery ticket in the DuPont sweepstakes when he undoubtedly puts up 50 pts and blames his newest teammate bully.

- EP40 generating alot of buzz around the league
- Canucks are not willing to retain
- Kings and Red Wings have shown strong interest recently and previously

Red Wings would be an interesting trade partner. They can replace Larkin with EP40. They also have assets that the Canucks would be interested.

LA Kings are not flushed with prospects but they do have high draft picks. Canucks also just hired Richard Seeley who was running the King's farm team in the AHL so Seeley will have alot of knowledge in regards to prospects.

Proposal:

To Det
Ep40

To Van
Michael Brandsegg Nygardd
conditional 2nd round pick ( Becomes a 1st if Pettersson scores over 60 points and Detroit makes playoffs)
4th round pick

To LA Kings
Ep40

To Van
2027 1st round pick top 12 protected
2028 Conditional 2nd round pick ( Becomes 1st if Petterson scores over 60 points and LA makes the playoffs)
4th round pick

I wouldn't give up MBN for EP, with the way he is trending and his contract is crap too right now. I have major doubts EP is going to be a lot better moving forward and would not give up anything great for him right now.
