I'm probably one of the bigger Pettersson haters but even I'd be stupid to not take the current centre situation into account. It pains me to say this given my history but if the best the Canucks can get is a prospect and a 2nd then they should just hold him.

They need someone to lead the tank and rebuild and for 11.6 mil Pettersson better just shut up, show up and lose for the Canucks. Maybe he increases his value. Worst case Ontario they can trade him for a 2nd and a prospect.

You are gonna be absolutely stunned by his trade value when this is all done.
The center market is dreadful, only need 1 team that thinks he can get back to 1c, and at worse he is a 2c, with a massive rising cap market.

We’re getting closer. We’re not close, but we’ve started negotiating. Now the Kings escaped their PLD deal thanks to Washington. That PLD contract was going to last another 6 or 7 years at the time at 8mil per. So it might be best for the Kings to stay away from Ep40. But having the Canucks taking say Dumoulin’s contract along with Ceci could bring us closer. Asking for the 17th pick is a bit rich considering Ep40’s contract and recent performance. It’s a gamble on whether his play is a blimp on his record, or if it’s how it’s going to be. It’s a gamble regardless. I’d consider the following:

To the Kings

Ep40
Canucks eating 1.5 Mil per year of Ep40’s deal.


To the Canucks:

Ceci (3 years left)
Dumoulin (2 years left)
The 46th pick this summer
Next years 2nd rounder, changing to next years 1st rounder if Ep40 puts up 84+ points next season.

It doesn’t make sense to trade him unless you get something useful. His cap on a relative basis (as a percentage of the cap)is going to go down. If he hits an extended hit streak it will absolutely jump, and more importantly Hischier is a comparable player that isn’t as good defensively and he is about to get more.

Probably the fairest proposal I’ve seen for both sides. Unfortunately, LA does not have a whole lot of cap right now. I really wish they go to the opposite road and rebuild but we know that’s not gonna happen. We know LA is thin at center ice and LA also wants to change their defensive core.

The first thing Holland has to do is get the Clarke contract settled

Then Lav has to get Byfield playing up to expectations

If EP slots in as the second line center and for the first three years, Cody Ceci contract is taken off his price tag minus the cost of a replacement player at say 1.5 million for a bottom pairing guy, you have EP’s contract at about 8 million a year which is fair. With the salary cap going up every year the contract looks better all the time.

Unite EP with countryman Kempe, a change of scenery, and the chance to come into the season in shape and ready to go mentally and physically, LA could catch magic in a bottle. That would be a massive win.

If he comes in and pulls PLD part two, I would imagine that would have to be the end for Luc as that cockroach can’t keep his job through everything brutal, can he? If Luc is fired, that would be a massive win.

Maybe I could get behind that trade after all. Or maybe I am just trying to prepare myself for the next stupid thing that Luc and Holland dream up.

This will work. His numbers will pop if he's stuck with Panarin. It'll look like a good trade even if he struggles.

Would rather take a gamble on him than give up assets for a mid 30's center. Holland probably prefers the mid 30's center.
