LA KINGS 2023/4 Regular season discussion

Kings are, what, 6-5-1 in their last 12 games? That’s a long stretch of very pedestrian hockey.

I don’t see how anyone can look at that and think everything’s fine. But then again, we have people here still carrying Blake’s surfboard.

Any time McLellan is asked to be creative and shake things up and explore a novel solution to deployment or roster management or anything in that realm, he fails miserably.

does the PP woes coincide with the 500 hockey?

Think it is time to change things on the PP more than anything else.

October

5-2-2 .667 Point%. 17% PP

November

8-2-1 .773 Point %. 22.9% PP

December

7-4-2 .615 Point %. 18% PP

So... ya know... maybe? No?

They were on a 109 point pace with a 17% powerplay
They were on a 126 point pace with a 22.9% powerplay
They were on a 100 points pace with an 18% powerplay

BUT

since December 8th theyre 4-4-2 with a 17% powerplay

The powerplay clearly needs to get better but it's not "hurting" them the way it was at times during the 2021-22 season.

Lately I've become more interested with the idea of timing of specific events rather than the sum total of those events. Failing to score on a powerplay at the end of a game when you're trailing by two goals (and went 0/2) is more important than going 1/2 on a night when you win 4-1 against the 32nd team in the league.

The end result is 25% on the powerplay in those two games but the timing is a far more interesting conversation for me.

Appreciate this.

Hoven said Clarke and Fagemo are getting called up. We have zero offense from the D core so hopefully Clarke shakes things up. 7 out of 13 of Fagemo’s goals have been on the pp.

Edit: he’s assuming.

If LA can return Fagemo without waivers than I would absolutely call him up. If he will need waivers than I would not.

Spence has been getting a lot of hate but I still like him out there. His passes are more crisp than most, and even though he has not got a goal he is creating offense IMO.

With Clarke and Fagemo, what’s the best roster we can ice?

Dubois - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Danault - Fagemo
Fiala - Byfield - Kaliyev
Grundstrom - Lizotte - Lewis

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Clarke
Englund - Roy

Something like this maybe?

i'm trying not to post but man, it's becoming more and more apparent that PLD is a wing not a C and every game that passes is like they're trying to justify the trade by keeping him there because it looks awful to trade two higher-scoring wingers and two additional assets (after trading a top-pairing dman for one of those assets) for Dustin Penner 2.0

It really is Blake's Lucic trade and the worst trade in franchise history already.

Dude, revisionist history at best, TWO ? High scoring Wingers? Vilardi, absolutely, but....Iafallo career year 43 points Iafallo, is not HIGH SCORING....and a top pair Dman...Durzi? The same guy you wanted 3rd pair or gone......is now a top pairing Dman?

Jesus....I get it, PLD is sucking ass right now.....but inventing bullshit isn't a good look

If you are breaking up Gavrikov and Roy, why not try Spence there first?

He did good in the dot last night. If things continue to go south on the scoring front could be worth swapping him and QB. Just for short boost.

good optics from sitting kaliyev because that line sucks to promoting and moving PLD to wing for sucking twice as hard

It's about f***ing time. Do I expect him to right the ship? Not in the slightest, but what were we going to do? Just watch him dominate the AHL and win AHL awards while our powerplay slips towards the bottom dwellers?

Should call up Turcotte while they are at it too and have him show PLD how to center a third line so you can just plant PLD lazily at the net.

Yea I think Turcotte and PLD would be a perfect fit. Either on the wing or center wont matter once as long as they find a rhythm.

Ah yes

time to waive a former 1st rounder, bench a scoring winger, likely bench our highest-performance-to-role dman, and call up our prized OFD, that'll surely fix the systematic issues of going to the net and passion from vets, being unable to score on or beat playoff teams, or get a win at home.

I know you are really frustrated but there are some real humdingers when it comes to bad trades: especially back when the Kings were doing their best to keep the Montreal dynasty going for as long as possible.
