PLD went from playing with Kyle Connor and Nik Ehlers to Carl Grunstrom and Alex Laferriere.

Was just joking with my brother about this very thing. Nothing against Grundstrom and Laferriere, but Connor has had more points in 1 season than both of them combined in their NHL careers. Let's be honest, what kind of numbers would Kopitar put up in that situation...

And I'm not defending PLD. I see the same issues everyone else does. I just don't think you can expect much given the setup. I recall people clamoring about finding wingers for Kopitar back in the day.

I still think Laferriere to ONT and Turcotte up is worth a look.

They were 1st in both categories before today. Allowing 3 to Columbus and Vancouver scoring 5 barely pushed the Kings to 2nd. That their GA/g is still so low despite Copley playing the way he has is very impressive.
I totally didn't catch that they were tops. I can remember a few years ago when they had a hot start and were up there, but it's rare. Pretty sure they've never been this solid this far along. Bodes well for the season as a whole.

Interesting thing about Copley is since that stinker in Arizona where he gave up 3 on 6 shots, he's been .926 and a 2.00 GAA.

I actually would put Laf with Lizotte and Lewis, form the L-L-Line. Move Arty back up to the 3rd.

I thought PLD's game against Blue Jackets (yesterday, Dec 5th) had some of his weakest shifts of the season, skating back slowly on defense, then turning up the intensity after defensive puck recovery and heading out of the defensive zone.

I've read 40 pages of discussion in the last three days (catching up), leading up to the CBJ game, seeing the transition over the past 45 days from doom and gloom to our current streak to the top 5 in various power rankings. I've seen some really good games from PLD over the past month and some especially dominant shifts during that time.

But the CBJ game wasn't great.

LeBrun: Kings' Drew Doughty still a throwback, even as he looks to evolve his game

"You know, I remember I was actually at the bar with Jake Muzzin before the season started, and I was saying, ‘You know, I feel good out there. I feel like I’m still the same player. I feel I do all the same things. What’s the difference?’

“And he’s like, ‘You used to take over more games back in the day.’ And I was like, ‘You know, you’re right.’

“When Muzz said that to me, I was like, ‘You know what? I’ve got to start doing that again,'” Doughty said. “There’s been some instances this year where I’ve done that. And I loved every minute of it. I’m trying to increase my offensive game.”

“Maybe I got a little too much over-defensive, I wasn’t playing the offensive side of the puck like I used to. So I wanted to bring that back, I worked really hard on it in the summer. I watched a lot of video to improve that, I watched other players, even.”

Thanks, Muzz

I think the concerning thing with PLD is the issues we have with him are basically the same that have followed him around his whole career. Not gonna rule out any possibility of him improving, obviously there's lots of factors at play but just hope this isn't the PLD we locked up for a large contract for long term.

I just had a scary thought. We all know TMac has blown playoff series leads before, but what about an entire SEASON? Kings are doing well. All looks good, then wham! They lose 20 straight to end the season and miss the playoffs by a point.

You're welcome.
Don't put that bad juju out there. The only option we now have to counteract the cosmic curse you've called down upon us is to punt you into the black hole at the center of the Milky Way and hope that a human sacrifice will appease the hockey gods! :sarcasm:

It basically happened in Taylor's final season as GM.

It's been crazy to read the boards of east coast teams when the Kings come to town, they still describe the Kings as playing heavy, and playing a boring 90's New Jersey style...LOL. The Kings are 2nd in the league in goals per game, and haven't played a heavy physical style in years
The majority of hockey people outside of the Pacific Division haven't watched a Kings game that didn't involve their team since the mid 2010's. It's truly crazy how many media people whose job is literally to watch and know about hockey can't be bothered to stay up even occasionally to watch a west coast game.

reading the east coat boards always reminds me of that jumanji gif “what year is it!?”

Like why lie if you have no clue. So dumb. Like playing Columbus yesterday I had no clue how they were doing and didn’t comment on it.

It;s the quietest 10 game road win streak in history. They spent more time talking about BC hockey and other garbage today on the NHL Now show than the Kings tying the record. It was like a 20 sec blurb. Then Boyle and Schnieder bitched about how much they hate the chrome helmets for 2 straight minutes..
