Pretty sure that was the year I went to the STH practice at Staples with about 15 games left where Robitaille "guaranteed" they'd make the playoffs.

Then they missed.
Was that the "March to the Playoffs" year? Where they were up like 10 points in the final playoff spot and went on to completely blow it. I remember having March to the playoffs placards they gave out every game, and every home game just got more embarrassing.

I dunno, hard to keep all the Kings failures in the mid to late 2000's straight.

It's been crazy to read the boards of east coast teams when the Kings come to town, they still describe the Kings as playing heavy, and playing a boring 90's New Jersey style...LOL. The Kings are 2nd in the league in goals per game, and haven't played a heavy physical style in years
Yeah, this team has been a blast to watch. They're extremely well structured but also super creative offensively, involving all 5, swapping high/low with the d-men. It's literally edge of seat stuff.

killer to watch us rip through the leauge like a chainsaw- the defensive gaps between habs defenders and kings got larger and larger as the game went on and the habs got more and more beaten down. after so many years of sweating out each and every game outcome, recent results are one hell of a lot better.
but at the same time iv'e seen some red hot places burn down to smoke and ash (thanks joni). and need to look no further than the many president trophy winners that lost in the first round of the playoffs- even as recent as boston's nhl record wins season that made a whithered 1st round playoff exit. this years kings team is talented enough to win a stanley cup. as a fan i aint in this to see participation trophys.
my personal opinions of the kings management brain trust and my ability to critically trhink and write about the kings doesnt exempt me from being a fan or from enjoying the current tear thier on. hey- were rated #1 in the nhl by the esteemed hockey publication the athletic!

We have been very lucky on the injury front. Especially on D. Hope we keep this up and stay healthy.
We also let go of 6-7 players in the off season, but in a weird way I feel we have more depth this year. It also helps that some guys, like Moore, Grunts and of course Byfield have stepped up.

Now that Lizotte is back, I'd like to see:

Byfield-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-Danault-Kaliyev
Fagemo
-Dubois-Fiala
Grundstrom-Lizotte-Lewis

Send Laferriere to Ontario where he can properly work on his shot. Fagemo has scored 10 in 10 since coming back to Ontario. Time to see if his hot hand can rub off on new line mates. Danault has played about the same number of minutes with Fiala and with Kaliyev. GF% with Kaliyev 69%, with Fiala 52%. Returning Grundstrom back to the 4th line reunites that line. Seems like a nice fit altogether.

Who's going to be the defensively responsible one on this line?
Fagemo. Despite his outlier season where much of the team sucked on +/-, he's been pretty responsible. I still don't like the makeup of that line, though.

Four clear MVPs and/or reasons why the Kings are doing so well this year imo:

1) QBs emergence and stepping his game up 2-3 levels at once.
2) Talbot: wow i didn't see that one coming. Health was the big concern for getting some decent play out of him. But beyond the health, he's been fantastic. Seriously ain't nobody gonna tell me anyone could have expected THIS much from him.
3) Moore -- not just getting back to healthy form, but stepping up to another skill level that we hadn't seen (certainly not on a consistent basis).
4) Defense: replacing out Elder/Durzi for Englund/Spence (finally), Mikey even better, DD with renewed juice (divorce suits him).
