LA KINGS 2023/4 Regular season discussion

Better than losing to Edmonton in the first round again I guess.
 
At a certain point you have to give Blake some props here. He launched the entire worst, misfit part of the roster into the sun: Quick, Peterson, Walker, Edler, Durzi, Kupari. Only Vilardi and Iafallo were worth a shit but they're flawed and he shrewdly sold high. Moore and Iafallo had similar contract, value, and disdain before the season, and he kept the right one. He got Gavrikov back and crossed his fingers on Englund and Talbot and Spence and f***in QB and hit on every one of them. PLD and Fiala are the only underwhelmers at forward but their age, production track record, and raw talent offer comfort that they will come around. The roster moves didn't cripple the board play, forecheck, or PK as many expected. The center depth Blake put together has forced/allowed TMac to distribute ice time in a way that doesn't make you want to scream. And Turcotte and Clarke (and Laffy apparently) are proving to be, at worst, competent insurance policies against injury and at best studs knocking on the door. The team isn't perfect (goalie depth can render this all moot) but the construction is actually fantastic.

Alright, if Arvidsson doesn't make it back this season are there any right shooting RW's that wouldn't cost that much asset or cap wise?

Edit: Could always boost Lewis up the lineup!

Worth noting that Iaffalo has gone 10 games without a point, Kupari is out of the lineup since Vilardi came back and Gabe has just 2 assists in 7 games (1 in 4 since returning with his TOI going backwards).
 
Looking at the effect of 15 vs 22 min per game.
15 min * 82 games = 1,230 min/season
22min *82 games = 1,804
1804-1230= 574 min more per season.

Now if you're playing 15 minutes a night that 574 mins extra a season is about 38.26 extra games worth at 15 min per game. (584 extra min/15 min per game)

That is a lot of extra ice time over the season. More ice time gives more opportunities for points over the season, but puts a lot more wear on players.

Having Lizotte on the 4th line able to eat up minutes because the King's have 3 other centers greatly shortens the season for the forwards.

The effects of rolling 4 lines should amplify further into the season as fatigue hits top heavy teams harder.

Qualifying for the playoffs is all that matters.
Individual points will be suppressed by less ice time.
Contracts will be lower because guys aren't getting ridden 20+ min a night.

Starting to think in the cap era, a 4th line that can skate against other teams top 6 is a huge benefit over the season.

Pretty much… I did find it interesting that when we played the Yotes this season, their announcers left no doubt that Kopi was the greatest defensive forward they’ve ever seen… above Bergy and I agree! And for those that say no but love analytics, well the stats back that up
