Take away last season and Markstrom has been one of the goalies in the league. Getting him at $4m to be the starter would be a win IMO. Losing Turcotte could really suck but really not much room for him and have to pay for the retention, Roy opens a spot for Clarke.

Seems like I maybe too high on Markstom, but I think it would be a substantial upgrade.

He's been one of the goalies in the league alright!

Just don't see him as a substantial upgrade due to risk, age, history, and opportunity cost of salary. Maybe decent cost of acquisition though, since they have to start integrating Wolf.

I would take Raddysh and Mrazek from Chicago.

I'm always impressed by Raddysh when we play them. He's a right shot RW. Good size. He's always buzzing around. Good middle six guy and has a super low cap hit.

Both guys are playing for a contract and Chicago is looking to move both of them.

Funny call out.
I agree the acquisition cost could be low as Calgary needs to make room for Wolf, and Vladar is not worth shit.

giving up roy is more of a loss than anything gained from getting markstrom.. not to mention all the add-ons

that's ridiculous tbh

Talbot has had a better save % every year since leaving Philly in 2019, except that one outlier of 21-22, and has a better career save %. 21-22 is when Calgary was the healthiest team in the league playing in a division where almost every other team had 4-5 times the man games lost as Calgary. This is why I see Markstrom as a back up if he came here. However, there should be cheaper ways to upgrade from Copley in both acquisition and salary.

Why don't we just wait what Portillo can do?
If you guys insist on a trade, Hildeby would be someone who could be had for a reasonable price.
A 6'7 monstrosity who actually can play goalie

Goalie options,
Might need a cheap backup if Pheonix can't figure out how to stop a wraparound.

Really need a starter.

Talbot unlikely to start 60 games

The plus side is the King's are about the only playoff team looking like they need a goalie. Might get a deal near the deadline.

The GOOD is if you're 'just' looking for a backup there are going to be plenty of fine options.

The BAD is I don't the Kings are, they're one Talbot fart away from no real options, they need someone that can competently play 40 games.

Copley isn't going to get many games to "prove" himself, and playing once every two weeks isn't doing him any favors, and any goalie the Kings might trade for would be in the same situation. Tight against the cap, lack of goalies available , LA is going to ride with Talbot/Copley and it's time to accept that.

There ain't gonna be a good trade incoming for a goalie the way the salary structure of this team is set up. They don't have any cap space and are thus going to have to either create a hole to plug another hole—or overpay with prospects and picks that they don't have: another 1st round pick for a run in the playoffs based entirely on hopium.

They had Kings goalie scouts at the Calgary/Toronto game supposedly checking out Vladar. There isnt room for a big money guy but with Arvidsson out and Copley going the other way in a deal they can at least upgrade to a better partner for Talbot.

My bigger issue with him has been he has been trash in the playoffs

may as well try to bring back Quick if we're going for a lottery ticket instead of a Saros
Yes, Markstrom has been a dumpster fire in the playoffs. The Kings should be looking for develop their own goaltending and it needs to be a guy who elevates his game when it matters most.

If their goalie coaches are confident in their ability to work with a younger project, Vladar is exactly the type of player I see them going after.

Of course, since the other team will likely have to eat part of the cap, Blake will end overpaying as usual.

Frankly, I am really hoping that Spence isn't the currency they use this year.

He's one of the worst goaltenders in the NHL. He has little to no value.

Possibly negative value.

At best it'll be Copley + roster player + retention + pick for Vladar+, which would satisfy the criteria of being both creating a hole to plug another hole AND an overpayment.
