As per Mayor--but of course we've been talking about it all year--Kings want to re-sign Roy.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. He's a great dman. But I also wonder what they have in mind for the left hand side because that's of a more immediate concern. It would also mean likely Spence is gone and that's the end of our once endless RHD pipeline to go with the wet fart end of our LHD 'pipeline'.
Not surprised to hear that or that they’re hoping to bridge Byfield at $4-5 million instead of locking him up long term. Hopefully there will be a new GM who sees it differently this summer but if Blake is still here, I see no reason why he will stop with the full steam ahead philosophy. Current management clearly believes this vet core is Stanley Cup caliber and will move mountains to keep it together.

So we've learned this Kings team can beat any team on any given night. Unfortunately, we've also learned that this team can be beaten by any team on any given night.

soo......basically hockey is gonna hockey,

There's not a team in the league that can not beat another team on any given night.

definitely putting the cart before the horse, but there keeps being expansion talks with Utah and Atlanta 3.0, LA needs to be mindful of NMC given out and how it could impact expansion.
Blake probably isn’t going to last that long, he’s gonna hand those out like tic-tacs, that’ll be for the next GM to worry about

Re-sign Roy? It needs to be all in on Byfield and Clarke $$$, honestly no more re-signing of anyone on this roster over the age of 24, except Kempe. They need to focus on getting younger and better

I can see Clarke in a couple years for his next deal if Blake & co are still around

"You jerked me around, now I'm gonna jerk you around"

Blake wants a team full of $3.5 - $4.5MM guys, waiver fodder on the 4th line and a new scrap heap goalie tandem every season.

If Blake is still the GM it's very unlikely PLD is bought out.

For one it would be Blake asking for yet more money from AEG for people to not play for and coach the Kings.

It would be egg on Blake's face and admission of a terrible trade.

And most importantly if Blake is back they will be trying to contend again, and if PLD is gone you have the same issues as before. You can't win a SC with Danault as your #2C, if you move Byfield back to C you are a total disaster on the wing, losing your best winger in the hopes he can play at a similar level at C. And that is also assuming that AK at 37 is still at the same level, there have been many many nights this season where AK has been really bad, it's likely the amount of those will increase as he is a year older.

Now if there is a new GM and a total tear down, maybe it does happen. You put QB at C no matter what and just tell him that's his position, you hopefully draft high in 2025-2027 and start selling off many of the current assets. But the problem with that is you have nearly $4m in dead cap in 2028, 2029 and 2030 when Byfield and Clarke are in their stone primes.

How does this concern you? The Kings are soft as shit.

The Oilers are looking to add grit and they already have Nurse, Desharnais, Kane, Hyman, Perry - and most of those guys bullied the Kings the past two playoffs already.
Nurse and Desharnais suck. I'd say more than half the goals we scored against them the past two series were because of boneheaded plays between the two of them. They can be "tough" all they want, but it doesn't mean jack when they can't be trusted to play winning hockey.

What would that cap hit look like for the next 100 years?
Oh, it would be fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy him out this summer. They get one chance to remove him without sacrificing any assets and actually save millions and millions of real money.

Forget ego, hope, sentimentality. Its just bad business to keep him.

Mantha has 19 goals - that would be tied for 2nd among Kings forwards.

And he can fight and play nasty. Someone the Kings don’t have in the top 12 forwards sadly.

Mantha is in a contract year & will be skating hard. Re-signing him may not be the best idea.

Even without Athanasiou (which was a joke), a line of Fiala - Dubois - Mantha would be absolute chaos at the very least

i don't think i have enough crayons to describe how stupid it would be to try and sign mantha, especially as a pure rental

how do we go from one night lamenting how blake signed the shiny yet disappointing toy -- to suggesting signing the new shiny but disappointing toy

literal all tools, no toolbox player with the bonus of never having played a full season in his career

There would be anger. Everyone would be angry. Both teams, coaches, fan bases, Ray Ferraro too.
