Still waiting for the Kings to put Kaliyev next to Danault and Moore. 11 goals for and 4 against with Moore in 131 minutes. That's chemistry for you right there.

Now that RV appears to be out, seems like the obvious move to put Kaliyev in that spot, but the Kings coaches have not gone back to this combo for some reason.

RV out "week to week" according to Kevin Weekes's tweet

I could understand the coaching staff having trepidation about giving Kaliyev more minutes if he was a defensive liability; but he's not. He's fine defensively.

Put him in a scoring role.

They need him to take RV's spot next year anyways.

It seems completely obvious what they should do with him right now.

I have been cautiously surprised and happy with Hiller. He does have some old-school mentalities as he has a little bit of that 'young guys need to earn their stripes' and he talked about trying to beat the 'roving' aspects of Clarke's game out of him, but he has been good with managing the young players, giving them more ice time, allowing them the opportunity to shine in key situations, and he is not afraid to make in-game adjustments and doesn't adhere to traditional lines. He harps on playing fast, not resting on the bench too long, and mixes up his roster to keep them on their toes and engaged so they don't settle into old habits. It makes you wonder about chemistry but the team is getting results. Hiller may be a stopgap, but he could also be exactly what the team needed.

It was a big boost and a smart move to demand more intensity from PLD and to pair him with Byfield who is going to drag him towards competing harder and faster.

Hopefully, Kaliyev gets some time and a new look as well. He is getting a bit of the Bjornfot treatment right now and it is only going to lead to another lost/wasted asset of moderate to high potential.

Soft. I love when fans take Englund out and don’t add a gritty player on the 4th line.

The Kings without Englund are undoubtedly the softest of the 32 teams. You think Blake will do that?

Elliott Friedman confined two podcasts ago the Kings like Englund and even admit without him, they are soft.

So you want to play Spence and Clarke, then add a tough forward on the soft 4th line.

Where does that leave Fiala though? He has zero chemistry with PLD. I guess with Kopitar and Kempe...
That's not necessarily true.

The main reason Fiala-PLD wasn't working wasn't because of chemistry, it was because PLD was sucking.

Just because a line/paring doesn't work for one stint doesn't mean it will never work.

I remember when people around here said Brown and Kopitar couldn't play together.

I also think that there is a little extra motivation, if it is even possible, for PLD to play harder with Byfield than other linemates like Fiala. It is just fan speculation, but I have noticed that Byfield and PLD have bonded a little closer than any other teammate has with PLD. Byfield and PLD wore each other's friendship bracelets throughout the end of last year. If there is anyone on the roster who can even remotely cause PLD to skate a touch harder it is Byfield.

The Kings should trade Arvidsson when they can at this point. Injured and uninteresting 2nd-3rd liner. Might as well get a pick and offload cap

THANK YOU for making these points. Tired of people seeing a line/pair not light the world on fire for their first 5-10 games together and then determining that those 2-3 players can never work well together.

Byfield and PLD seem to be working well together. Turcotte looked great with the two of them but I feel like Turcotte's the kind of player that will help whatever line he's placed on (similar to Byfield honestly). I'd love to see Turcotte remain with Byfield and PLD but I believe there's other options as well.

You could put Turcotte with Kopitar and Kempe, which I like a lot. It'll force them to give Turcotte more ice time and also provides Kopitar and Kempe with a super high motor/compete winger with some skill.

Which would allow you to slot Fiala with Byfield and PLD - A line with a TON of scoring potential. That gives the Kings a REALLY balanced top 9 in my opinion. Sure, that would slot Laferriere down on the 4th line but that's really not the end of the world (for me at least).

I can't imagine anyone would trade for him right now as an injured UFA. No contender will want to take on the salary during a playoff push for someone that may very likely be continuously brittle or injured throughout the rest of the year and playoffs when they can just get someone healthy. Not to mention he'd be traded for a bag of beans at this point with retention.

I’ve been wanting to see Lizotte on a wing for a while. No pressure as being the center, still defensively responsible, but can go be an annoying little guy out there.

I’m still not a fan of him being a center, hopefully this works out.

Just feel terrible for VA, especially in a contract year. Last year he played almost the whole season after battling injuries for years, and you thought maybe he could end up being a Justin Williams, where he finds durability later in his career, and then boom, now it's a total lost year. He enters FA at 31, but boy does it feel like an old 31 with all the injuries. I am guessing he is not going to get a multi-year deal from anyone, which is a shame for him. It also sucks for the Kings because it's a loss of a highly skilled player, who also happens to be the Kings only real right-shot offensive threat up front.

As far as Lizotte, I still think people sell him short, especially his offensive game. Last year he had 11 goals and 34 points, none of those coming on the PP and less than 13 minutes a game. I think I'd probably prefer Turcotte due to age and contract, but as far as actual on-ice play they are quite similar players, especially when it comes to offensive ability and playing with two scorers, I am thinking Hiller probably likes Lizotte's defensive ability a bit more to play wing with those two.

The defensive angle is most likely the answer here, as Hiller wants to feels comfortable running this line while carrying a lead. It's clear he does not trust Turcotte or Kaliyev yet in that regard

Lizotte is a great spark plug when fully healthy.

But injuries are starting to pile up for him. He wasn't the same this year after coming back from the concussion.

He was a big part of the reason LA got off to such a great start this year. That 4th line was killing it.

Exactly. I would dump Lizzote at this point.

Helenius or Turcotte will be the eventual 4C, what's the point....

The 4th line has been terrible most of the year. Still not happy with it. No identity. Look at other teams 4th lines - usually a speedy penalty killer, a gritty or tough forward, and a player who can win draws. We have just one of those items.

There is no point in keeping Lizotte and his 1.6 mil a year contract when we have a younger player with higher potential at half the price that is now healthy and showing well. I hate this move.

The Kings aren't going to trade Lizotte now, not in a year they are trying to win, and not when his likely replacement has had multiple concussions and other significant injuries. If you trade Lizotte, and Turcotte gets hurt again you are pretty thin at forward depth, even more so now with VA likely done.

I do agree this summer that it's time to move on, whether it's with a new GM rebuilding or Blake trying to squeeze as much as he can out of the cap. I would qualify BL and then trade him for a draft pick and give his roster spot to Turcotte (who will likely be making around the same next season as he did on his ELC). That would be about 700k in savings.
