No we can't expect improvement from 8 and 11, and that's fine, I want my improvement to come from Byfield, Laf, Kaliyev, PLD, Turcotte, JAD, Spence, Clarke, Andersson etc,

This version's core? Why does everyone believe this version's core,...is 8 and 11...is that because they are on the team the longest? 8 I can see, he logs the most minutes on a daily basis, 11 does not, why do people think 11 is this version's core...
Apparently no team has ever won a cup with players 33 or over. Hence, Kings are doomed.

Those buffoons you refer to as the ‘many’ are the same ones that predicted Vilardi would never play in the NHL, Kempe would regress last season, Byfield and Turcotte would be busts…the list goes on. You need new friends.
They may be wrong on those takes but I dont think "they" are wrong about whats looking like the black hole rinse cycle... Id love to be wrong about it.

Becuase DD inexplicably leads the league in TOI (as statistically a stay at home 2nd pair) PP1 and Kopi is 1C nd plays both special teams. The coaching staff is afraid to put those guys in less demanding roles and letting the youth rise up. Tucotte had a good camp but didnt make the team.. why not? Kaliyev has been mid - but I put that more on Koala deployment and boring view of the world. Clarke is electric but just now finds himself getting more than a few games in a row. They arent featuring the youth and they are afraid to do anything but spoil 8 and 11.

You do realize 11 leads the forward corps in TOI? Like 8 leads the D corps in TOI? Kopi's clear of second place (Kempe) by almost a minute a game lol. Cmon man

And did you think it was looking like that 25 games into the season? If you and ‘them’ predicted this nonsense at that point, I’d have way more respect for it. But you didn’t ….

Maybe stop trying to find things to cry about and just enjoy the ride? Try it…

Bro if I took the time to list all the things Axl and his alts got wrong, it’d crash this site for good. I know it’s fun to entertain to his nonsense but there’s a reason no one respects him on this board.

Like I said, I can see it with 8, inexplicably is debatable at best....he's not the best dman in the league any longer, but he's better than a lot of people especially here, want to give him credit here, for whatever reason.

Kopitar is on pace for another 70 point season, with full defensive marks etc, not sure how this is a bad thing? We want to give an good center, less ice time, so we can.....do what?

Turcotte didn't make the team out of camp, who is he beating out, Kopitar, Danault, PLD, or Lizotte?

You say letting the youth rise up, shouldn't that be on the youth, Laferriere got a bit lucky with Ardvisson's injury, but he showed up, and kept showing up, and made it damn near impossible to sit him, why couldn't Turcotte, Kaliyev, Fagemo, or whomever we lament the loss of or not playing of, if Laferriere can do it, why can't the others, if Byfield did it, why not the others?

You say let the youth rise up, but the only one who hasn't taken the bull by the horns is Kaliyev.....

Still think Byfield = bust?

Ive said it for awhile - a couple of seasons - never backd off of it. During the first 25 games - I still felt this team had major holes. I was shocked they did so well with PLD terrible. I chalked up the success to Englund and Talbot working out way better than expected and esp QB taking major steps forward. I was surpised as hell, and Istill felt the holes on the team were pretty big and may come back to bite them - specifically goal tending and lack of a physical game.

People who think 2012 applies to every bubble playoff year fundamentally misunderstand why 2012 was such an outlier.
It’s a difficult for some to look outside the box of “enough points to make the playoffs” without understand the subtle nuances of what makes a team a winner.

2012 is a hell of a case, because while it’s great to point to an 8th seed winning and say “anything can happen”, it’s completely disingenuous to compare that team to most any other years low seed.

Forest for the trees.

Kopi had what 6 points in January? Yes Im saying they use him too much. Get him off the PK and save his legs. Use him for 1st faceoff in OT then have him head to the bench. The guy is still the fwd TOI leader that makes no sense at age 36. You can tell he's wearing down. Doughty NEVER pushes play. He settles play and takes up tons of ice time that could be delegated to more offensive D like Spence and Clarke. Doughty admits he's offensively challenged..he needs to be off PP1... he and Kopi are a nightmare with their perimeter passing. They have very little creativity and its been that way for years. Byfield is now our best forward and he was just demoted to PP2 to make room for RV. That is another sign the coaches just cant put the best players where they belong - they are afraid to do anything but push 8 and 11 out there all the time.

If you move Roy, you do it to expand the teams offensive potential while suffering a stout defensive loss. Does the likely increased offensive game offset the loss of Roy’s defense, I say yes..
Matter of fact, Matt Roy is one of the worse Dmen in the NHL at denying O zone entries. When you’re dealing with the Pettersson’s, Eichel’s and McDavid’s of the world, that’s a very bad thing.
If the Kings trade Roy I would be expecting a 2024 1st and a roster player.. with that said, I’d move him to Detroit where he’s likely to resign and ask for their 1st and Rasmussen to help give us size, it also wouldn’t hurt to ask for Augustine as well… I would love Edvisson but that’s likely asking too much but you won’t know if you don’t ask
Like where your heads at, but Rasmussen is a bit of a big punching bag. More snarl is needed. Kaliyev is huge, but not enough snarl too.

This isn't the same type of team, but the league is different too. The big opponents in the division are Oilers & Canucks. They both rely on small skilled players. King's have a roster with quite a bit of size & nasty. If they actually turn it on, the King's can beat the snot out of those teams & maybe win. Vegas is a different story, but King's might not end up playing them.

Is it going to be easy? Nope. Do the King's have a chance to cause some trouble in the Pacific? Yup. How was everyone feeling at the start of the Vancouver series in '12? Flash backs of the '97-98 playoffs?

The big difference is that DL /DS combo built the team for the playoffs and was riding a Vezina goalie all season.. but with DS total disdain for the regular season. That arrogance almost cost them making the playoffs. But like you said, its much different than this version of the Kings squeaking in.. this is not a team that could butt heads with EDM, VGK or FLA... not physical and iffy goaltending. Blake doesnt seem to think of the post season as a completely different season the way DS/DL did.

Ok, Kaliyev is big & doesn't skate like Lizotte so he's got to go. He can score though. Which doesn't matter. Apparently what we want is a Plus Sized JAD. No cap, so also cheap.

Kaliyev to the pens! They need a trigger man when Jake leaves & brought in EK's salary & need a cheap player that can shoot.

Kaliyev,
(maybe have to add a 4th or something)

For

Alex Nedeljkovic 1.5M, UFA
(might have to retain half)
&
Puljujärvi 800k, 1 more year.

Puljujärvi is big, doesn't score, cheap, hit Byfield the other night. He's perfect for this team!

Or
Kaliyev to TO for Knies or Robertson, both can go to the AHL without waivers could buy some cap flexibility.

*Assuming JAD back in next game & Kaliyev benched again.

Edit: You know, if the King's trade Roy for a pick & prospect on an ELC, it might free up enough cap space to cover Clarke's bonus money from playing him that would bleed into next year's cap!!!

Ok, I'm done. That's enough snark for now.

If Blake is smart he will sit on his picks and deal Roy and Arvidsson for futures, but unfortunately that’s not the reality we currently occupy.
Trading Roy and Arvidsson is the obvious move and has been for months to all but the low attention span “get in and anything can happen” copium addicts. I did think before the season that Blake was gonna overpay to re-sign both but I think Arvy’s injury and the team’s collapse makes it more likely he will just keep them and let both walk in the summer. I don’t blame him. He’s GMing for his job right now and if AEG wanted changes then they needed to can him alongside Todd instead of leaving him as a lame duck through the deadline.

They missed the division title by two points and made the playoffs comfortably. It was a hell of a roster that had reached the end of the road with Murray and had to endure a looong wait for Sutter to decide to get on board.

Its a hell of a real story, no need to make it so goddam melodramatic.

I'd sooner let one babysit my kids than have that interaction.

plenty of time left before the deadline to determine if the kings should trade arvidsson/roy. kings just went 4-1 under the new coach while beating some pretty good teams. crazy that some of you would rather this team lose just to say i told you so. truly miserable ppl.

Not sure I agree giving a top player LESS ice time is the best way to win, as far as Doughty goes you completely misread what he said, he didn't say he was challenged, he said he actively puts offense on the back burner, he knows he can do it, but doesn't for the betterment of the game/team etc.

Anyways, this is probably a problem of perspective, I don't see Kopitar as a "core" player, the ones I see, are Kempe, Byfield, Moore, and to a degree Fiala.....as far as forwards go, you want players like PLD, Laf, Kaliyev to grow into or step into those roles as well but they aren't there.

Why do you think Blake would trade Roy and/or Arvidsson for anything less than an upgrade? If he's GMing for his job right now, he knows he has to get through the first round of the playoffs. He's going to be a buyer or stand pat, not a seller at the deadline unless the Kings go on another losing streak.
