LA KINGS 2023/4 Regular season discussion

Because he's better than him and has shown chemistry with PLD. AK has played on that line at times too and done nothing. Laf also shows variety in his shots, never afraid to shoot from anywhere or change it up. The entire league know where AK will shoot, and the goalies are just waiting for it. AK has a great shot, but never changes where he's gonna shoot.
Ok, now do 1 goal JAD.

I don't think that's safe to say at all lol.

I think that's highly speculative.

Coach didn't trust/like him. Now a new coach has come in and clearly hasn't wanted to shake things up too much throughout his first 2 games behind the bench and as a result Kaliyev hasn't gotten back into the lineup unfortunately.

Could there technically be off ice issues?? Sure.

But we have absolutely zero indication that's the case other than 'well why else wouldn't he be playing?' - So it's a bit of a stretch to just assume there must be off ice issues.

Yup, sure thing.

Kaliyev is a clear example of flawed deployment. He’s a one dimensional scorer who is on his ELC. Putting him on a checking line and expecting him to excel on a team trying to compete is ludicrous.

Expecting him to score 14 goals next to Lizotte this season is akin to sniffing your own farts and claiming everything is coming up roses.

Following the 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres

McLellan: What you guys need to understand... you see him skate and shoot. He's gotta fit the team. OK and I know some of you guys are nodding because you're around the group long enough and you get it. Arthur has to fit. He has to work hard to fit.

and you've gotta be good... now I'm not saying Arthur's not a good teammate but you gotta be able to fit.

And wanna be here and wanna be out there and wanna be succesful. And when he does that he'll play again.

HOVEN: When you say wanna be here is that in response to the...

McLellan: No no no no Arthur Kaliyev doesn't phone some guy in Toronto and say I want a new home. His agent might but he won't.

Exhibit A in the case of the people vs BLuc.

The young player is once again given less rope than an over the hill veteran (to wit Trevor Lewis in this particular instance) because management values feelings over potential.

That's the problem with this management group. Doughty needs to be considered as part of that glut with Roy, Anderson, and Gavrikov, but is instead still being treated as a star.

One of those guys needs to be moved on so another puck mover can be added to the group. The clear answer is to move Roy for as much as possible now, promote Clarke, and look for a LHD in the offseason who would push Englund down to the 7th spot.

It could be a puck mover to play with Doughty so Anderson could shift to play with either Spence or Clarke, or a stay at homer if you insist on Doughty playing with Anderson. And it should be a player with term as Gavrikov will be the hot topic this time next year.

"gotta fit the team" pisses me off so much

THEN WHY DID YOU DRAFT AND SIGN HIM? everyone and their mother knew what he is, if you don't like it NOW you should've traded him ages ago instead of tanking his value and morale

or is that the point? tank him intentionally so you don't have to pay performance bonuses you can't afford, then you can get him for a bargain on the RFA contract..........................

So Dooley just didn’t post this incredibly pertinent quote? Cool.

Its just incompetence. These idiots did the same thing to tobias bjornfot because he wasnt physical enough yet started at #2 for an entire season.
The la kings- where young draftees sign on to rot.

I'm pretty sure I used it in my pregame show the next game.

Also pretty sure there were more important quotes to cover from that night...

Doughty, Kopitar and McLellan all had a LOT to say. That quote was buried in the bottom of an otherwise quote filled evening.

Why single out Dooley? The guy that asked the question and is in the exchange didn't mention it either.

Because he’s the guy who runs the blog directly associated with the team. If there’s anyone in the Kings media sphere who should not be making editorial decisions about which quotes to include and which not, it’s Dooley.

Imagine thinking a player needs to “fit in”. What has fitting in have done for JAD? f*** that “fit in”. They should only care about him producing. Let him fail in a sniper position rather than a dumb ass brain dead grinding position which isn’t his game.

Anyone who disagrees is as stupid as the staff who put Kovalchuk on deflection duty and not on the point.

100%...says Mikey Andersson, Quentin Byfield, Alex Lafeirre, Jordan Spence, Trevor Moore, Adrian Kempe, Matt Roy...f*** we can keep going....

But yea, young players come here to rot.....despite the roster being littered with young players....f***ing A plus logic there.

I agree with the bolded, and I find it really odd that there are some who feel line mates don't or shouldn't matter.

re: laf "he was scratched and he came back after that and he's gone like this (up) since then"

sooo.. up as in like, 11 games more than kaliyev with the same amount of goals and a nice -7 but getting PP minutes and a permanent fixture in the middle 6

but when kaliyev gets scratched and comes back playing a better game we're shitting on his lack of effort and fit from a 4th line slot and burying him eternally

got it!

love the complete lack of accountability for kopitar too. b-b-b-but he's a selke winner, he knows how to play hockey!
