Same time Turcotte, Kaliyev and a 1st head out.
In my view the only Kings players that should be kept are:
Byfield, PLD, Clarke, Kempe, Fiala, Turcotte and Anderson

Should be traded, if possible:

Doughty, Kopitar, Arvidsson, Lizotte, Levis and JAD

Could be traded for serious upgrades:

Danault, Roy, Moore, Kaliev, Gavrikov and Spence

Grundstrom out. Kings even softer.

Biggest issue for this team is the breakout. It’s a personnel problem on the defense. Here are the guys who play the most.

The core challenge is that the team expects Doughty to be an elite breakout passer in order to make up for guys 2-5 who are average to below average. But we can see that Doughty isn’t good enough to overcome the lack of execution from the rest of the group.

You can look at Clarke and Spence and think you have an answer. The breakdown in that thinking occurs when you try to decide what to change higher in the lineup.

They have too many defenseman who are being paid significant dollars that all play the same game. It doesn’t make sense to pay Anderson, Gavrikov, and Roy all at the same time. Especially if Doughty can’t make up the difference when it comes to moving the puck.

And I think the team knows this. In Danault’s post game comments he said the breakout was where things needed to improve in the defensive zone. Not the coverage, which were the glaring mistakes last night.

But Danault pointed to the team needing to move quicker and the forwards needed to help out more. So basically trying to point the finger to the team needing to play better over roster construction. Which, of course, no player would ever do in the heat of the moment.

And when I listen to a lot of the comments from the leadership, he consistent theme is playing a conservative style. Maybe the league is telling the team that doesn’t work if you don’t have the right roster balance to play that way.

And it’s a bit of having too many pieces that don’t fit that mold in certain areas, like at forward. And too few pieces that help provide just the right amount of balance that are ready to play big minutes on the backend.

That's the problem with this management group. Doughty needs to be considered as part of that glut with Roy, Anderson, and Gavrikov, but is instead still being treated as a star.

One of those guys needs to be moved on so another puck mover can be added to the group. The clear answer is to move Roy for as much as possible now, promote Clarke, and look for a LHD in the offseason who would push Englund down to the 7th spot.

It could be a puck mover to play with Doughty so Anderson could shift to play with either Spence or Clarke, or a stay at homer if you insist on Doughty playing with Anderson. And it should be a player with term as Gavrikov will be the hot topic this time next year.

Putting Lizotte on LTIR and Grundstrom! I think it will make it so they can keep everyone up who is up and activate Arvidsson.

The only issue would be if they were going to try to sell him off at the deadline for more cap space, he’d be on LTIR until the day after the deadline.

Why does Laferriere stay on the third line while Kaliyev gets bounced from the press box to the fourth line?
I like the idea of Turcotte with Kaliyev. Those two have had chemistry. Kempe has had some success with Dubois, so I don't mind that. I'm not sure how well Fiala does with Byfield and Kopitar but he has had success with Byfield. Maybe Kopitar can benefit from that. Not that bad all things considered.

It looks like Kaliyev is the 13th forward there and is likely to be in the press box again tomorrow.

I think its a pretty safe bet at this point that this is all off-ice related issues. I do wonder if its related to the same talk around the draft before he fell to the 2nd round.

It's very bizarre, he scored I think 14 goals as a rookie playing very limited minutes on the 4th line and in a role he wasn't really suited for. Blake said that he NEEDED to be in the top 6 the next season but then they went out and got Fiala which blocked him essentially and ever since then his treatment has been odd. Very curious what's gonna end up happening with him.

I don't think that's safe to say at all lol.

I think that's highly speculative.

Coach didn't trust/like him. Now a new coach has come in and clearly hasn't wanted to shake things up too much throughout his first 2 games behind the bench and as a result Kaliyev hasn't gotten back into the lineup unfortunately.

Could there technically be off ice issues?? Sure.

But we have absolutely zero indication that's the case other than 'well why else wouldn't he be playing?' - So it's a bit of a stretch to just assume there must be off ice issues.

Yeah, why shake things up when they had been going so swimmingly the month prior?

Because he's better than him and has shown chemistry with PLD. AK has played on that line at times too and done nothing. Laf also shows variety in his shots, never afraid to shoot from anywhere or change it up. The entire league know where AK will shoot, and the goalies are just waiting for it. AK has a great shot, but never changes where he's gonna shoot.
