LA KINGS 2023/4 Regular season discussion

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Heads need to roll for the rest of this year and offseason. Roy, Arvidsson, Lizotte, Grundstrum, Lewis, JAD all need to be gone before next year. Blake and McLellan need to be gone ASAP. Let the kids play and if any vets done like it than show them the door. This team doesn't have what it takes to win. Get what you can at the TDL. I have said it before but this team moved too quickly out of the "rebuild/retool" and lost their better prospects for absolutely nothing.

They build around Byfield & Clarke and the youth. Give Anderson the C with Kempe and Danault (if he stays) the A's.

We’ve been blessed for so long with uncharacteristically good health and longevity of our best players. Kopitar and Doughty started showing cracks five years ago when the rebuild started. It’s not ever going to get better. As good as these guys are, they need to transition out of top line duties. Those minutes need to go to younger guys breaking out. At some point, Byfield and Clarke need to be the guys. It’s too bad we traded for Fiala and PLD before we were ready to contend because we should have a right side of Faber, Clarke, and Spence and a top line of Kempe, Byfield, and Vilardi but we don’t. We can’t ever get that back. And all of those guys combined make less than PLD does this year.

This team could just as easily win a round or two this year as they could miss the playoffs altogether. Who the f*** knows which roster is going to show up. But this is no longer just a slump. 5-8-5 in their past 13 games. 8th place in the West, clinging to the last wildcard spot, poised to face Winnipeg at the moment. Can’t make that shit up.

I feel like this as well.

I was never a fan of the panda hire as I wanted Todd Gallant at the time. Gallant is back out there. Even if you are a fan of Todd hard not to think this team needs a new voice. If Blake wants to save his job it should be with changing the coach.

I have been patient with PLD saying lets wait and see, but with how good Vilardi has been this trade could be very very very bad. Still time on that, but the rose is coming off my glasses.

Only real piece to sell is Roy.
If Blake really gives up on this year he would deal Talbot too, but as others have said i think it is more likely he throws more assets after sunk cost to try and save face.

There's no way Blake is selling. He's going full Dave Taylor nuclear baby.

I don't know what kind of salary will be outgoing to make it work but i'm dead serious that we need to expect Clarke/Spence, Fagemo/Turcotte, 2024 1st, 2025 1st and 2nd going out to get back whatever he thinks the need is, likely some bullshit 3C as I've said all along

He's going to try to superhero his job and TM's.

Which is why he will likely move Moore and a first for Markstrom

With Lizzote out, and even Todd seeing the fourth line is sucking, why not try Turcotte there. Edit: or Thomas (but he would need waivers to go back down)

This is the problem in politics also. Hopefully Blake does not do this. Even Lombardi was doing this toward the end of the cycle. There are lots of teams in the league (Boston/Vegas) that do very well restocking the cupboard while not mortgaging so much of the future.

Todd peaked as a very good assistant coach. I feel like he is a smart man and knows hockey which is why organizations keep him around.

However…. He 100% gets caught watching games and isn’t a fast thinker and does not know how to be assertive in the moment. In the office or hindsight he can break down a play as good as anyone. However, he cannot make a split second adjustment, call a timely timeout, or adjust the pairings on the fly.

Even his delivery in post games scrums is slow methodical and measured. He has no feel for the game! He’s better off breaking down tape, working on things in practice, or consulting with someone to implement changes!

Terry Murray system also didn't allow us to score. 2-1 games were the norm, anything over 3 goals and its was party time around here.

Yeah but the Kings never got reamed like they are now. I didn’t like TM but he obviously left the Kings with something to work with and made Kopitar the best two way center in the NHL. Todd has not produced anything.
 
At this point, let them keep losing. Whatever it takes for them to realize that they have to clean house starting at the top. The mismanaged assets, the nonchalant attitude of the current state of the team, the losses, it's all difficult to watch as a Kings fan
