No wonder Carolina never wins anything of note these days, defeatist attitude and need perfect conditions you aren't ever gonna get in the latter rounds of the playoffs.

Yes, a virus that causes weakness and weight loss definitely shouldn't affect how players play the game. Clearly, the idea that it might is needing "perfect conditions".

Honestly, the largest effect is likely to be the increase in ice time and the change of offensive philosophy. Necas fits the Avs transition game so well.

Playing with Mack doesn't hurt though.
That was my joke a few pages ago.

Necas goes over 1.ppg in Carolina and it's a 'hot start'
He comes to Avs and goes over 1.ppg and it's MacK

He has the same .ppg in both situations... maybe he brings something to the table himself?

He has been very consistent across 2 teams and 2 very different styles of play.

Time will tell the whole story but yeah I'd trust the Avs management over most.

The fact that Necas was scoring so much under Carolina's system, without relying on his linemates, is probably what gave them confidence to go forward this trade. Scoring at over PPG pace in Carolina should translate to even better success with MacKinnon.

I expected a stronger start for Mikko, Aho has generally been a solid playmaker, not on MacKinnon's level but he's up there as far as the better 1C's in the league go. Maybe there is something to the flu theory, time will tell.

Even we Avs fans regularly question and distrust our management and coaching. Don’t kid yourself. We’re no different than other fans. Hopefully less delusional but delusion afflicts everyone. Some more than most. It’s just a question of degree.

Rants is absolutely due some 'regression to the mean'. His points total is unsustainable IMO. It will rise up and he will go on a heater.

Rants will eventually break out. Of that I’m sure. It takes players some time to find their game on a new team. Instead of acting like we won the trade, Avs fans should be both relieved and ecstatic to know so early on that Necas is a seamless glove fit on the Avs. Rants was a lot to give up. Canes got a fantastic top tier winger. Avs got a fantastic return especially given the circumstances.

Maybe. People don't usually go on heaters in Carolina, it's more team oriented than focused on a few exceptional individuals like Colorado is.

I expected Rantanen's scoring to decrease but his defensive impact to increase, leading to him actually being a more "winning" player than he was in Colorado this season. I won't draw too many conclusions based on these handful of games.

At the end of the day Rantanen was brought in to be a difference maker in the playoffs, not so much the regular season. Carolina just hadn't been able to get over the hump with its roster. They were close, but lacked the finishing touch. If Rantanen wakes up for the playoffs, people will quickly forget any struggles he has had in these early games.

We've seen consistently over the past five years that a team who plays defense and has 3 guys waiting at the blue line renders the Aves entire attack useless.

Necas is just more of the same who will try to deke through an entire team and give the puck away.

When the Aves are out in five games in the first round their fanbase will be begging to trade Necas.

Colorado has to be the fastest team now. This trades going to put them over the top. That speed is going to be a nightmare for opposing teams come playoff time.

Necas is better defensively imo. Rantanen has a better one timer. He technically should be able to score more goals than necas but I don’t think Carolina has the play makers to utilize this to its full extent.

Did you see Necas's first 2 months! He was around 2 .ppg and leading the NHL in scoring. I know because I started a thread about it.lol

The rest I agree... I like Canes but it does feel like scoring the big goal in the important game is a area of concern for them. Obviously, Rants has a great history of scoring in the big games! Avs loved him in that cup run.

Compared to signing Jack Campbell for five years, 2 2nds for 2 weeks of Anthansiou, the botched offer sheets, I'd trust dogs more than our management right now.

All this make me think of when Rantanen came to WHC's to help Finland and he didn't score a single goal after having an excellent season playing with MacK on his line. He just felt super disappointing to be a 100+ point player who scored 55 goals and then against weaker opponents on European ice he didn't manage to score at all. He was a PPG player with 9 assist in 8 games but I thought he was the biggest disappointment on that team.

Something changed with him after winning the Stanley cup.

Will be good to see Necas join buddies Pastrnak & Zacha when he hits FA

quick retool for Bruins

So it turns out Rantanen was just an invention of MacK? Without him he seems totally exposed, I guess that's what he gets for overplaying his hand...

There could be an adjustment period going on, he's been playing with MacK for the last 10 years. It's obviously not all that, he has for sure been getting inflated points playing with a superstar.

Rantanen no doubt has been too reliant on MacKinnon and Makar the last few seasons. The points are there but the effort can be questioned.

Now he has to step up and create offense much more consistently. Somewhat concerning that Rantanen never really carried his own line for the Avs. They tried it here and there, but the results were just okay so it was just better having him next to Mack.

That has been my year long dream. Such a perfect fit on the B's. Not that I mind him playing with MacK or Makar at all.lol
