When this new guy gets hired, I kinda expect Nonis to step down or be fired.

He has a job in Calgary waiting for him. Burke pretty much said it;

"we are going to wait and see who becomes available in the summer" or something like that. Nonis isn't stupid, I am sure he knows he is in serious trouble and has talked to burke about it.

He is just another blowhard, looking to make pointless moves to pacify Leafs fans. Hiring Shanahan isn't going to change the fact that the Leafs are going to be mediocre at best until the current core of players are gone.

Well what should he do? Just allow the current coach and managment to keep making decisions until Kessel's contract is up?

Of course not. He should clean house from top to bottom. Coaches, management, scouts etc. all fired and then hire somebody with real management experience to rebuild the franchise.

Fact: Lieweke came in to Toronto and signed Nonis on the provisio that the team improve each year.

Fact: Lieweke said that he trusts his guys, but he also was tired of having the city of Toronto having to suffer (quote) the way they did for as long as they have (47 Leafs, 20 years Raptors, 7 years TFC). He said HE can't take responsiblity for the years he wasn't around - but He's going to do his best to ensure that from now on he'll put the people who can succeed and thrive in Toronto here - this was before the winter classic by the way

Fact: He said going by what he saw last year - he had to fix the most broken 'first' that would reap benefit the fast: TFC. then he did the Raptors. (and everyone is saying - the Gay thing totally blew up in a GOOD thing - and Masai keeps saying it doens't change the fact there is still work to do). He also said he wants a Leafs guy and he believes it was Nonis - who will do what it takes to protect the young assets and not trade them for 35 year old men or a quick fix. He wants continuous, sustainable deep progress for both the Marlies + Leafs --- this was after the winter classic

Fact: Lieweke said in the interview that Toronto is mired in a losing culture (because of the losing teams) and the team needs players and management who can thrive under pressure. He said it in the newspaper - changes will be done if we lose. the Leafs will be scary if they make the playoffs..

Fact: the Leafs got eliminated last night

Fact: - 12 hours later, Tim is reaching out to Shahanan, Gretzky and possibly Nicholson (who just happened) to quit.

but again. sure. He's a blowhard. Being a blowhard would be coming out yesterday and saying "you know - we're bringing everyone back" or "we trust in the process." He didn't SAY anything. His actions are saying he's not happy. Again. Lieweke didn't HAVE to fire Nonis or even push Nonis to fire Carlyle.

New Director of Hockey Ops (meaning everyone whose been whinging that Lieweke would be a big fact interfering blowhard don't have to worry). will set the course for the team. Shanny/Nicholson/Gretz. will not want to work with Nonis/Carlyle, nor Nonis will want to work with him. Ergo. Nonis steps down or is fired. Carlyle is not the coach for this team.

New GM will CLEARLY see (a blind mind) will see that the team needs work.

I want the team built properly, so I don't mind taking a step back or two and making sure that all the young players are in the line up and supported properly. So no. I will not be crying if the Leafs are struggling to make the playoffs in the next five years if the team is on the right direction. LA Suffered for 8 years with their core in tact, as did Chicago (9).

The only handcuff I'd have on the new position holder is to keep spending the most on scouting and
player development.

Do a clean sweep, and ask Montreal to get their Asst. GM back,
Rick can hire his own coach.

I don't buy that Nonis will be on his way out if Shanahan is hired, at least not immediately. Sure it will likely diminish Nonis' role a little bit but to me this seems much more like Leiweke trying to protect himself rather than trying to significantly shake up or improve the team's management.

Doing nothing is probably better than the knee jerk reactions we're going to see this summer. Every year it's going to be short term decision after short term decision.

Well here is my problem with this theory.

If we had made the playoffs is Dave Nonis job in jeopardy?

Well he is a blowhard because that isn't the problem. The problem is lack of talent. This blowhard isn't going to turn Bozak into Toews or Kadri into Malkin. We can't be patient, we HAVE TO make moves. All he is endorsing is more of the same.

Missing the playoffs, especially the way we did, is unacceptable and people need to pay.

Nonis and Carlyle, by missing the playoffs failed at their job. When you fail at your job, you get fired.

Those two (and other management), along with a slew of personnel changes will be made, and should be made

All MLSE management(including Leweike this year) and board of directors, should be fired every year until they make the playoffs.

If they have been in the organization for 6 years, sure

can't something just happen in Leafs Nation ?
or is chronic speculation about everything just going to be with us forever.

Burke firing came out of the blue.

The problem is that all the worlds NHL insiders are based in Toronto, and we're the leagues biggest market. If they dont find this stuff out, they'll get replaced.

The last 6 years wouldn't have played out the same way if Nonis was in charge. They don't call him Dave Nonuts for nothing. We wouldn't have done the Kessel trade and I think most of the team would look different. And again Leiweke extended him 5 years so he is just as much to blame. If he was a good executive then he would have hired the right person and we'd be in the playoffs, he deserves to be fired.

Pot calling the kettle black, here.

Your posts on this page show that you neglect to think prior to posting. All TL can do right now is speak vaguely. Wait until the season's done, before you go spouting off.
