Rumor: Kyper: Dermott and Holl available for a trade

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Two things to take account. Hyman is still overpaid and we shouldn't have signed him to his contract. Bogosian for that money was only available to Tampa Bay and we couldn't match, because of covid he wanted to play in the US. So that first trio wasn't even an option, though we could have negotiated different contract with Hyman (speculative off course if he'd signed for less).

Usually dman like Holl is more valuable than player like McCann, but it's good argument to have, if we still should have exposed him. Holl was part of our top4 last season and it was best top4 we have had in years. Could we have gambled on with Dermot, Liljegren, Sandin, Menell progressing enough and should we have traded Holl away instead of exposing him.

We have had problems for years acquiring suitable dman, so I understand why we played safe with our top4, because we don't have that 28 minutes rock, so it's more defense by committee approach.
U wait till some top 4 dman goes down somewhere
Then u get a first rounder back

Means that Liljergren is here to stay. I hope it’s Dermott who goes instead of Holl.

We are pretty set with Reilly, Muzz and Sandin on the left side.

I prefer Dermott over Holl but if the need is right side D Holl wins out over Dermott for me.

Which one could/should go depends on what the interest is.

For the team right now, Dermott can play both sides & can be at least okay on any pair (likely untapped potential too, how much is debatable).

Holl has shown that he's capable of logging tough matchup minutes alongside Muzzin, penalty killing or defending late leads. He's also bigger & stronger on a d group that's on the small side, which is okay. On the downside Holl has recently sucked.

Holl likely to have more value on the trade market, right handedness
Dermott is not as good on the PK, won't use him protecting leads, can't trust him on anything but the 3rd pair. Just a guy.

Holl is a solid PK, can protect a lead and has a little bit of size.
Team would not miss Dermott IMO.

If we limit Holl to PK + #6D minutes he might be servicable.

Neither have high hockey IQ imo which is what causes them most of their problems.

If leafs can get something good like 1st rounder or solid prospect, maybe but i don't see leafs trade one of them for a bottom 6 foward or low pick/ okay prospect.

If someone get an injury, who will play?

leafs are forced to trade 1 of them in the next 3 week so that they can fit mikheyev under the cap and have a 22 man roster.

either way you not taking salary back unless its a player making league min , so im expecting exactly what you are not expecting .. picks and depth back

No they don't need it, just put aguy pierre engvall down and they're okay with cap space.

If you give me a choice between a 13th foward or 7th dman, the choice is pretty easy to do

read again ......... 22 man roster.

But they don't need a 22 man roster so what is the problem?
Couldn’t agree more. Wasting 1.5-2m on two guys to sit in the press box when we have cap wizard pridham filing paper transactions to maximize our available space doesn’t sound like a good use of the cap. Our AHL team is 6 blocks away.

rather see Holl move over Dermott but honestly I don't see the issue with them being a #7

not eager to see Rubins, Biega etc in our NHL roster

And who are you going to call up from the AHL team?

Having a 22-man roster isn't just about having guys "ready to go"... it's also about having guys "ready to go" that are legitimate NHL players.

Pierre Engvall would not clear waivers... especially midseason where a bunch of teams would gladly pick up a depth utility forward (See Amadio).

Yep.

An even worse realization:

McCaan, Hyman Bogosian = 9.25 million.
Holl, Kerfoot, Ritchie = 8 million.

1. The Leafs don't have $1.25m more to spend on 3 players.

2. While having McCann & Hyman over Kerfoot & Ritchie would be nice, a reasonable person would not expect Bogosian over Holl in the context of a top 6 role to be an upgrade in any way/shape/form.

Yeah, it probably would've been nice to have McCann instead of Kerfoot given his offensive upside and reduced cap hit... but it's a bit of splitting hairs.
