It’s more to illustrate how valuable 1.25 million in cap space is and picking the right guy is.

Kerfoot has been playing wing and McCaan is a better winger.

Hyman is in another stratosphere compared to Ritchie.

Holl regressing is hindsight. Bogosian is more physical and overall probably an equal #6.

To make all those judgement calls and correct decisions is another story. I’m just sick of people defending the Matthews/Marner over payments because an extra 1.25 million let’s you keep Hyman, McCaan in this scenario. Not saying they would have made all those decisions and been successful, obviously.
People are equally sick of talking about Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylanders contracts.

Dermott for Mikey DiPietro + 5th
Holl for Nick Paul
Dermott for Sam Steel
Dermott/Holl for a 2nd
Dermott/Holl for Arturri Lehtonen
Dermott + x for Phil Kessel @ 50% retention
Dermott + Woll for Connor Ingram + Ben Harpur + 4th

vilardi or kupari would be my targets. lA wants a d

He earned that contract. He was fine last year, if not good for most of the year. Not sure what you expect to pay mid/bottom pairing defenseman that play high defensive minutes like Holl. I don't think anyone expected him to regress to this level of struggling.

I'm fine admitting I was wrong about Holl though. Opinions can change based on new information. In hindsight, should have probably let Seattle take him if they were interested in doing so.

I don't understand why people seem to think 6 or 7 poor games suddenly erases achievements over an entire season prior.

Holl HAS looked Poorly this season, but he's also clearly capable of being better than this based on what we've seen with our eyes and on the stats sheet in the past.

Things that are the "right move" don't need asterisks next to them.. right moves don't require disclaimers.

It was wrong to keep Holl (-7 in 7GP and yes I get how +/- is not the greatest stat but it is directionally a proxy stat for quality of play) over McCann (3G,4A in 8GP), it was wrong to keep Kerfoot past the day after our season ended last year.

Disagree. The Leafs expansion plan was complicated and introduced a lot of interconnected variables so it has to be broken down in a high resolution of detail.

In the end, the net loss to the organization was Hallander and a 7th which is less value than Justin Holl. So that is a win.

But they ended up giving up a stronger asset on paper so it feels like they were stumbling onto the right solution but fumbled it in the end...

But we're not really at the end of this sequence of asset management because we still have Holl - and Kerfoot, and we don't know what kind of asset could be brought back for them, or what can be used with their cap hit.

My personal feeling is we should have lost Kerfoot and paid the premium for Seattle to take him, walking away with McCann and Holl intact. But whatever.

I think holl problem is he’s playing like a offensive d if he went back to how he was playing before defence he would be fine

My problem with Holl is when he's feeling himself he starts freewheeling like he's Alex Pietrangelo and getting deep in the offensive zone. He's at his best playing a quiet Ron Hainsey game and just using his mobility and length to disrupt, regain puck control and onto Muzzin or the easy out.

Pretty much what I was saying lol keep it simple

He's decent in the right situation, how many teams have a Muzzin to carry a partner and pair?

Agreed. Let's not think that there's a "punish you" trade in the works.

The greater need is left wing:

Bunting
Kerfoot
Mikheyev
Ritchie

This is bad bad bad. Worse than Holl making a few turnovers. Perhaps a pick for Holl plus Dermott for a LW is what the plan is.

3 things
1) stop talking about Bogo, he was never an option. Canadian/local restrictions and rules made that decision for him.
2) McCann/Kerfoot is a coin flip. I prefer Kerfoot as he’s a known quantity in the room and has good chem with a couple of our impact forwards, but if you like McCann better, okay. Sure.
3) No interest in Hyman for anything resembling a “hometown discount” on the Edmonton deal he got. 4x4? Sure. 4.5x8? No. Rather have roster flexibility taking short term shots on guys.

I still think they can get more in trade value now than what was given up in the expansion draft (Hallander + 7th) even if it’s a 2nd or a 3rd plus Hallander was only a second rounder who’s not excelling but not busting, whereas a draft pick is still a lottery ticket everyone envisions cashing in on.

Let me be the one to put this out there. Let's get rid of a lot of further nit picking bs and package *Sandin* with Engvall or Kerfoot so we can actually win a trade without generational hatred colliding like ping pong balls.

Dude don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. We lost a guy who has 3g/4A in 8 games for a guy who is -7 over the same time. We traded Hallander /7th for McCann, we lost McCann as a price to keep a guy who has been in the press box for the last 5 games. It was one more example, in a LONG LONG LONG line of examples, of the Shannyplan theme song that has been playing for the last 5 years, poor asset management. It wont be the core 4 or a OHL coach or a OHL GM, that is the reason why we wont win the cup, it's the horrid asset and cap management under the Shanny regime

All of this because we are in cap hell next year because someone loves Reilly. Right now he is playing the 4th best dman on this team. He gets a few points because of pp where he does not belong.
Both Reilly and Kerfoot should have been gone in off season and we would be farther ahead now with cheaper versions.

Just leave it as it is. Sit Holl until one of Sandin, Dermott, Liljegren start screwing up.

I suspect we will be happy to have both Holl and Dermott when someone gets injured. It will happen.

Get a cheap Physical D pk type at the deadline for depth.

Steve Dangle was speculating that he'd be traded very soon. Don't know if he has any connections, but I'd assume they want to shed his salary and get someone cheaper to fill that role.

He was quoting CJ that he thinks it will happen soon and the Leafs typically do a lot of their business on a Sunday.

The consensus among the rumours/insiders is that the Leafs are pushing to make the trade happen soon so that they accrue cap space as soon as possible and open up a spot for Mikheyev when he's healthy (about 3 more weeks).
