Let me get this straight... You put Kyle into a lame duck situation. He impressed you throughout the season and playoffs. Then because he didn't sign on the dotted line right when you wanted him to, you decided he wasn't the right guy for the job anymore? All within a matter of 48-72hrs?

Shanny needs to be fired now. Dubas wanted to be the GM, he wanted Dubas to be GM, and he let his emotions get in the way of making the right decision.

Truly pathetic stuff from Shanny.

Kyle earned the right to take whatever time he wanted (within reason). He gambled on himself, and won. f*** off MLSE and f*** off Shanny.
No he basically had second thoughts after Dubas’ crazy presser comments and when he did decide to offer him what seemed like a done deal Dubas asked for a bunch more money. This whole week from Dubas was about money and it backfired .
Lets see if Dubas was as good as his word when he said it would be the Leafs or nowhere

Wow!! Crazy.also I bet the troll brigade (different rules for them than us) are in full force on the mains. Not even going to bother. I'm sure Kyle is now a top five gm of all time ..

No, if it came down to the money, he probably said: "I have enough money that I don't need this job, the stress that comes from working for the Leafs and their garbage fans, and unless I get paid more I'll look elsewhere when I'm ready."

It would be a colossial f*** up by the organization letting him go over money when you are still paying for the dumb mistake calle Babcock. What it feels like to me was that the longer this went on the more Shanny felt that someone else should head the team. Sounds like his desire to have Dubas back changed in the final minutes the more used to the idea he got.
I can't agree more with Shanny, not sure you want to be here anymore? See ya...

Somehow the job is easier and less of an impact on his family if he makes more money. Makes me lose all respect tbh. I was one of his biggest supporters around here, thru everything. This disgusts me tbh.
See I'm the opposite. GM's aren't part of the cap. So by all means go get your money.

Problem is he's a shit GM that's won nothing. He shouldve been in no position to even be returning as GM, let alone getting a raise.

You have to actually be good at your job to make those demands

One thing for sure, Shanahan is clearly in the crosshairs now. It's his show no matter which GM he hires.
Last try at GM for him you have to think

Was Shanahan asked about Keefe?
Answer was for new GM to decide

Actually sounds more like Dubas said he didn't want to have to run every decision by Shanahan anymore. Shanny said fine, see ya later..... it was a power struggle, not money or performance.

If that gets out no experienced GM would want this job. We'll be getting another rookie that Shanahan can manipulate.

I bet Dubas' next job will be as a President & GM role.
In what world does the President not get a say? As long as it's not the Board meddling.

Brendan Shanahan just established himself as the Alpha male in the Leafs' organization.
He just gave Kyle Dubas and the whole World this message: "Don't screw around with me."
Sure did. In case anyone was wondering, and apparently Dubas was, he's still in charge.

Has to be. For all our sakes I hope this one works.

Shanahan whether you like it or not came across like a true professional in this. He skewered Dubas in the nicest way possie.
Dude, he just crucified him, set the room on fire and locked the door on the way out.

Can you help me understand why what Dubas said in his press conference would make it difficult for him to come back in a professional manner? Others are saying this too but I just don't get it.

He said the job had an impact on his family and was very emotional. How can an executive make that statement and then expect to talk to Auston Matthews about staying as a Leaf or convincing free agents to pick Toronto over someone else?

“Kyle, can you tell us why Toronto was such a hellscape on your family? “

“Oh, ignore that press conference. That was crocodile tears for negotiation posturing. Toronto is fine and your wife will love it here.”

So all that family stuff was just a play? A negotiation tactic?

Cause he wanted more money and we all know more money will cure all mental problems with the family and make things so much better.

Seriously, how can you come out and say that you're not even sure you want to be a GM?? When I heard that, my first thought was this guy is angling for a President's role somewhere.

The only reason I thought he may be saying that, is that he was mentally burned out or exhausted.

If that was it, I would understand, if it was taking a toll on his family life etc.

Thats what I got out of that presser he had Monday. I dont think anyone would fault him if he wanted to step away for those reasons. But it doesnt seem so.

But the way Shanny laid it out, there were productive discussions about an extension after the season, in the playoffs, and after they were eliminated.

He’s a GM who was negotiating like a player and trying to tip the scales of public opinion in his favor vs the franchise. You can negotiate hard for yourself. But please do that behind closed doors so you can come back Monday morning and be the face of the corporation.

Think another way. What if he said what he did in the media press conference. But only to Shanahan. And they worked it out quietly behind the scenes? And we had a united front going into the summer? That would have been way more normal.

He was getting a raise. He wanted a bigger raise. That and the stunt he pulled on Monday thankfully sealed his fate. I don't think I could have handled the Florida loss and a Dubas extension.

For all those applauding Shanny for showing his nugs and standing up against Dubas' personal and contractual demands, do you understand that we have no plan at this point?

We have 6 weeks before Marner and Matthews NMC kicks in, and we don't even have a f***ing interim GM announced, nor do we have a single potential candidate to fill the role. Not to mention, we just let go of the GM who had a good relationship with every one of our players, including the most important piece of business this offseason (34).

Now Shanny is left to oversee a management group, coach and large amount of the roster that was all hired by Dubas. Almost all of which had nothing but good things to say about him.

I'm sure this will go swimmingly Shanny. I am so glad you got to show us how strong and alpha you are. Was totally worth it

He said that the season was affecting his family for starters. Like what? That's red flag number one. If that wasn't enough, he also said he wasn't sure if he even wanted to be a GM. Red flag two.

Dubie thought he could ask for the moon as his players did and they got it so why not him?

"When I get together with some of my old mates from the Cup years in Detroit, we talk about winning together and growing together and that’s what we remember. At the end of the day, we all found a way to fit with each other so we kept adding to the group."
“We were able to attract a player such as John Tavares who could have made more money elsewhere,” Shanahan said. “But it wasn’t his responsibility to set a new (salary) bar or please other people with other interests. He’s a hockey player.”
“Nobody puts more expectations on the players than themselves. And that’s what we’re asking some of our young leaders to do. There are a lot of other voices and as I said, it’s not for everyone, we’re not for everyone. But we think of the players we currently have, we have great confidence that they’ve bought into this and they understand what’s going to be most important.
“What I hope they can look back in 20, 30 years down the road and what’s going to be most important to them, is that they maxed out (their championship opportunity).”
Seems Dubas forgot who he was dealing with.

And had you seen Amirov at the time? Ian Moran who runs a professional scouting service, said on Spittin Chiclets right after the draft, he believed Amirov was going to be the steal of the draft and possibly the next Kucherov.

Amirov was considered to be a highly skilled 2 way forward. Why was Schenider considered a better prospect? They were both ranked in the 15-20 range by pretty well every scouting service.

that seems normal and reasonable though? i'm sure being the leafs GM and living in Toronto it's going to cause some stress for a young family. And that might cause you to deliberate on whether this is worthwhile. yea not the best pitch for keeping your job but also seems honest and reasonable.
