See I'm the opposite. GM's aren't part of the cap. So by all means go get your money.

Problem is he's a shit GM that's won nothing. He shouldve been in no position to even be returning as GM, let alone getting a raise.

You have to actually be good at your job to make those demands
I'm all for them getting as much money as possible as well, to me it's bringing your family into contract negotiations, it's so unprofessional. Saying it's hard on my family just gets under my skin, welcome to real life, pal. Absolutely negotiate more money but base it on your book of business. Dude just screams soft to me.

There are faults all around. Everyone waited too long

Kyle should have fired Keefe after Montreal series
Shanny should have fired both last year
MLSE should have fired Shanny this year
MLSE can't do anything since they are still looking for a new CEO.

What a ****ing mess.

And had you seen Amirov at the time? Ian Moran who runs a professional scouting service, said on Spittin Chiclets right after the draft, he believed Amirov was going to be the steal of the draft and possibly the next Kucherov.

Amirov was considered to be a highly skilled 2 way forward. Why was Schenider considered a better prospect? They were both ranked in the 15-20 range by pretty well every scouting service.

Spoiler: He wasn't.

Schenider is not good

Can you help me understand why what Dubas said in his press conference would make it difficult for him to come back in a professional manner? Others are saying this too but I just don't get it.
It isn't tbh, people are saying it is based on him showing emotions and the toll it takes on a family. Regardless people aren't exactly happy about the slipping up in the work-life balance being tough.

Frankly, I think it was playing hardball for the money/autonomy prolly made it difficult and by the time gap between the two of communication has passed that Shanny was like ok we need a new set of eyes.

Personally think it's just a bad look all around and it comes at a very important part of the off-season.

Personally I have no problem with Amirov. He also looked good in the WJC
As of right now he falls into Luca Cereda category. For his sake I hope he makes a good recovery

Hockey is an aftermath. Can't see how he comes back to play in NHL
Maybe in Europe somewhere

Brendan Shanahan says that a final offer was ready for Dubas and he told him as much on the same night that the team was eliminated from the playoffs by the Florida Panthers on May 12. Shanahan says a framework was presented to him the following day.

Shanahan says that he believed Dubas was receptive to the framework and suggested that he shouldn't speak to the media until the deal was finalized, but Dubas wanted to have a season-ending press conference.

It was after his emotional press conference on Monday that Shanahan realized that Dubas's stance on a new deal might have changed.

"I think at that point there was a dramatic shift in my thinking," Shanahan said. "He might not want to be our GM and I have to take that seriously."

Later in the week, Dubas's agent presented the team with new numbers and Dubas told Shanahan in an email that he intended to return. Shanahan says after much thinking, he informed Dubas that he would not be returning earlier on Friday.

Shanahan insists that the breakdown was not the result of a gap in compensation expectations from both sides.

"After the press conference on Monday, I was less sure...I hadn't ruled Kyle Dubas out, but I had to make sure of other options, as well," Shanahan said.

Shanahan says he doesn't begrudge Dubas for speaking publicly and understands his familial concerns.

As for a successor, Shanahan says previous experience is "an attractive quality" in potential candidates." In terms of a timeline, Shanahan says an appointment "needs to happen rather soon."

Shanahan, 54, has been president of the Leafs since 2014 when he left the NHL front office where he served as the league's senior vice president in charge of meting out discipline.

What’s also strange is that Wes Clark and Pridham are close to KD and will take on a more prominent role now that there’s a gap and a short turn around time before major decisions have to be made. I wonder how they feel about what has transpired? I hope they can separate their personal views from the professional work that needs to be done. I also wonder how the hiring of the new GM will jive with both Pridham and Clark with so much at stake in such a short time? This all feels crazy.

He said the job had an impact on his family and was very emotional. How can an executive make that statement and then expect to talk to Auston Matthews about staying as a Leaf or convincing free agents to pick Toronto over someone else?

“Kyle, can you tell us why Toronto was such a hellscape on your family? “

“Oh, ignore that press conference. That was crocodile tears for negotiation posturing. Toronto is fine and your wife will love it here.”

it's not the best pitch to play in toronto but it's also something reasonable, honest, and something everyone knows to be the case. no one is being hoodwinked into playing in toronto. everyone knows the pressure is huge and if you win you're a legend and if you lose you'll hear about it loud and clear.

Yeah, Dubas probably oveplayed his hand due to the timing of the contracts for AM, WN and what to get for MM.

On the positive, the new GM can explain to Mattews, "stick with us, we have the resources to surround you with tenacity and Gamers"
Or...have you thought about working out with Crosby and Mackinnon in the offseason

So it isn't even money... Dubas wanted to make sure he wanted to be here, and after thinking, he said he was, but Shanahan didn't like that Dubas wanted to be sure. What a mess this is.

He’s a GM who was negotiating like a player and trying to tip the scales of public opinion in his favor vs the franchise. You can negotiate hard for yourself. But please do that behind closed doors so you can come back Monday morning and be the face of the corporation.

Think another way. What if he said what he did in the media press conference. But only to Shanahan. And they worked it out quietly behind the scenes? And we had a united front going into the summer? That would have been way more normal.
Yea I agree with that. Dubas being unprofessional in the media isn't a surprise though.

I just think Shanahan should be firing him on merit already. It shouldn't have come to a point where Kyle f***ed up the negotiations and got tossed

I can't agree more with Shanny, not sure you want to be here anymore? See ya...

Yeah I agree, if Dubas didn't want to be here anymore than fine, get rid of him.

For me though it sounds like he stated on multiple occasions he DID want to be here, including in an email 2 nights ago(?). It sounds like Shanny for a year now was picturing the future with and without Dubas though, and after sleeping on it the last few days he thought the organization needed to move forward without Dubas despite him consistently negotiating and telling Dubas/his agent he wanted him back.

That is if you accept Shannys narrative.

Now if you are Dubas you must interview for work inn the future cautiously, "it was all a misuderstanding". He has to make it water under the bridge if he wants to GM in the NHL.
If I’m a NHL team presiden and just saw what happened I’m not touching him with a barge pole, it turns out HE’S been the cancer in the Leafs organization all along…….

He was a so-called “Draft Guru” yet all his non-first round picks have flamed out.
So what? Happens all the time. I dont see a ton of gold from Dubas. Guaranteed there has been communications happening. Shanny did not decide to part with Dubas without a replacement in mind. He has had days since the Dubas presser. He has made no announcement on a replacement and time is urgent. Makes total sense that not communicating a replacement points to hunter because given the urgency, he won't be quibbling about a few hundred grand a year give or take. London Knights are almost done.
I bet that is when all will be revealed.

For the record. I have absolutely no problem with Shanny deciding to move on from Kyle. If he felt like he wasn't the right guy for the job, then I can respect that. But he openly told everyone today that he felt comfortable extending Kyle at the TDL, and that continued to be the case at the end of the season. Yet, here we are today, without a GM. Without the GM that Brendon thought was the right guy for the job less then 5 days ago.

This was an emotional decision by Shanny. He has no Shanaplan at this point.

“A new financial package was presented to me by his agent”. f*** you Dubas.

MLSE gave this generational GM his first chance.
Fired Lou and Babcock, two hall of famers and 6 Stanly Cups in between them

Just so Dubas can go hire Sheldon Keefe. Turn this organization into Macdonals of hockey

Losing to Zamboni driver, losing to Habs, losing to columbus. yet not firing his boy

All that was tolorated. He should be giving MLSE money for making his career

POS

Ya, I didn't get the impression it would be Pridham. He seems more of a guy content to be in the background. And doesn't like to be hugged apparently.
Getting run over will do that to you.

Would be nice to have some consistency in the management box, so hoping Pridham and Spezza stick around.
