Regardless of anything else this is not a good look for Shanahan at all, makes it seem like he's not really aware or in control of what's happening.

???
Gotta say though. I do think with that core Dubas received, there isn’t one GM in the league that would have frigged things up to the point where they wouldn’t have made the playoffs every season. You had pretty much 4 elite players and 1C that would have made team Canada. I don’t think it’s as bad without Kyle as some may think.

100%

The only tangible thing is Dubas keeping Keefe after all these blunders.

He bet his Coach would be better than he was.

And that the core 4 were tougher than they were as well. LOL

He must feel like an idiot giving a midget winger like Marner that money, and seeing him trip over his feet vs Florida out of fear.

The Rot started with Dubas. Good riddance

Presidents outlive most other positions for awhile. Also his first firing was a pretty obvious one to get his tenure properly started.

Lamoriello moved on himself after finding a new role with the Islanders, he wasn't technically fired.
Neither was Dubas really just let his contract expire. Seems like Lou's departure was awkward too, the common denominator is Shanny and MLSE.

I am not a Dubas fan but this isn't all on him, Shanny and MLSE mismanaged this situation as evidenced by no plan B- he should have been announcing a new GM today if they were on top of things

Sounded like Dubas made a counter proposal, but by that time, Shanahan already decided to move on. It happens. All the best to Kyle.

What's not so good is that there is seemingly no real plan in place. He talked about "contingencies in case the GM in a final year doesn't want to resign", but clearly there were none, and needs to start to interview candidates 6 weeks before the draft...

There was also no confirmation (from what I can tell) that big changes are needed to the roster (1-2 of the core 4 need to be moved out).

Need to wait and see what happens, but I don't have a good feeling about this lol.

Without reading all the comments, I think Kyle overplayed his hand with the press conference hinting he may not want to do this, he has to talk to his family, but then a few days later a few bucks more and "i'm all good boss".

I tink Shanahan called his bluff as his mind was already soured by that press conference, as he understood they had an understanding of what the contract would be. He might also been given a "max figure" by the ownership no to exceed.

Now lets see how honest he was about not taking a new GM job somewhere this summer. If he does, then he's a flake and a liar.

But this entire debacle should also make any new employer think twice.

My feeling is this was the most likely outcome with his press conference. Too much personal information to be able to come back in a professional manner.

Well, at least they have resolution on one front.

Can you help me understand why what Dubas said in his press conference would make it difficult for him to come back in a professional manner? Others are saying this too but I just don't get it.

Insane that you'd hire someone to manage a team and then do it yourself.

If this is the case, I guess Dubas may be a good or bad GM and we will never know.

The other two Toronto teams do exactly that. Can you name the GM of the Raptors and Blue Jays? Webster and Atkins? or Masai and Shapiro
