You don't think it's easier to want to do a job if you're making more money?
This isn't about being easier to do a job, it's about stress on his family which was the reason for potentially not coming back in the first place, which also won't be relieved by more money.

He used the family excuse to try and leverage more money.

What did his wife say "I hate you doing this job but if you make 25% more I'll be good"?

Not a good look for either side if they referred to money but clearly it was.

Why clearly? We have no idea what it was. Shanahan may have more power over decisions than we are aware of and that may be a sticking point.

There may be something else

The guy who wasted the ELCs of the best crop of young players we ever had, and then turned the Islanders into a joke team.

That guy.

Or are you one of the guys who think Dubas inherited a good core and Lou somehow didn't inherit the Islanders.

The Islanders are more his team than when we started, and they are trending down.

Genuine question, what were your expectations of Matthews/Marner/Nylander in their first 3 years with this team ? Playoffs ? Winning a round, multiple rounds ? Those teams over achieved, McDavid has missed how many playoffs ? These guys never have.

MLSE let things get to this stage in the first place. They should have made decisions before they had their preferred choice publicly negotiating with them at the last minute

Based on the presser, it seems like they thought it was a done deal until 3PM on Monday.

They'd been working on this for months.

Money...........................The root of all evil, even when you have piles of it.
Leafs finally win a round, and now this........

MLSE just finished paying mike babcock 20 million dollars to sit at home, and basically invented Robidas Island. This shouldn't be about money in the slightest.

Im actually pumped to see how this all unfolds, I love being a fan of this team, and I know it work out all we can do is beleaf! hopefully the leafs put on a off season clinic, and make the leafs a better team! its all one can hope for!
I hope so... we still have a solid window...we need to capitalize ASAP...I am also skeptical because this is truly a shit show because it comes at a very critical junction. I wanna say I am an optimist but at the moment I am trying to stay even keel.

"What are you going to do, Bleed on me?"

I find it the other way. Isn't this about Shanny's ego, not wanting Kyle to make as much as him and having full autonomy?

Look, Shanny hasn't won shit with you guys either and he has been there longer.

Def both guys ego’s. I guess we have to hear Dubas’ side on how much micromangement there was in this last year. But it seems dumb that he had the offer and couldn’t just take the deal if he really wanted to be here. He tried to leverage the situation and it back fired

Somehow the job is easier and less of an impact on his family if he makes more money. Makes me lose all respect tbh. I was one of his biggest supporters around here, thru everything. This disgusts me tbh.

But that's a thing that happens, you don't even have to leave the sport to find examples. Like my old man only moved to the States when his boss offered enough to get my mom on board. It's pretty mundane yeah?

But I'm not going to get into an argument with you, I respect your opinion.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

This whole management team was nothing but pure abject failure.

Changes need to be made instead of "running it back 5.0". A new coach, a new GM, and possibly moving one of the "core 4".

So many of you are fearful of the change, fearful of the undertaking, fearful of the contracts, etc. So be it. It will be better than Dubas continually convincing himself that he can keep running it back with the same team.

Best of all is the end of the Dubas Robots that polluted this board. Having an endless line of white boys between age 17-21 on this board talking about how Toronto won the hypothetical cup, and that Keefe outcoached the other coach in the playoffs. The idealism that smelled up this message board was unbearable. Honestly it didn't mind Dubas. He did have some likeable qualities, but the cult that surrounded him was too much.

Genuinely curious, where can I find the salaries of all NHL GMs? How does an offer of 4 million/year compare to those of other GMs? Will Kyle get a comparable amount or more if he were employed by another organization?
