Have they even said it was about money? I've only read contract conditions, which to me does not mean money, they would have just said that.

Shanahan probably has more power than we know of over the team, and Duabs wanted more.
Not a good look for either side if they referred to money but clearly it was.

Sounds like Dubas either wants a long term contract, significantly more money or both. I don't think it's a good look to air that your family struggled. After not signing, sure put it in the media.

@AllDay28 How did you come to this conclusion? Serious q. I want the steps to how you came to this idea.

@AllDay28 ..... To answer your question (other thread was closed). My though process is that there was no reason for Dubas to put a lot of the personal stuff to the media, other than to apply pressure to Shanahan. Looks like I was pretty much dead on.

Guess he found out that that kind of negotiating tactic generally only works if he's the one signing the contract.

Yay, the guy who hired 2 failed GMs gets to hire another, glad he is the Alpha.
I don't think of either Lou Lamoriello or Kyle Dubas as "failed GMs".

I think that each of them did quite well for the Leafs' franchise.

Shanny just had enough of Dubas, that's all.

Dubas would like us to believe that the framework for a deal was completed at the TDL, and it took him 2 months+ to remember, “Oh yeah, this is really hard on my family. I need to ask for more moolah.” So he shot for the moon, and Shanahan wanted none of it.

If it was hard on his family life in February, it should have all been ironed out. Dubas’ presser on Monday either showed he was trying to wring every last cent and ounce of power out of MLSE management OR he really didn’t want the job 100%.

Either one was unpalatable to Shanahan, and as president, it should not have been palatable. Shanny knew on Monday Dubas wasn’t coming back, and the demand for more money only cemented the decision to kick him out the door.

Which is too bad - I thought Dubas made some good decisions, though not every one was right on the money. I am glad, though, because I am 100% certain Keefe is history, which is a change that needs to be made.

So Shanahan wanted Dubas to be GM

Dubas wanted to be GM

Money wasn't the issue. Then why exactly is Dubas not the GM?

Who was the first failed GM ? The guy they put there on purpose so we can get Matthews ? lol

The guy who wasted the ELCs of the best crop of young players we ever had, and then turned the Islanders into a joke team.

That guy.

Or are you one of the guys who think Dubas inherited a good core and Lou somehow didn't inherit the Islanders.

The Islanders are more his team than when we started, and they are trending down.

One thing for sure, Shanahan is clearly in the crosshairs now. It's his show no matter which GM he hires.

Everyone here focused on the shitshow that just happened, but key thing here is that he's just starting the search now. I hope they've already done their research and it's more about starting to meet and talk with candidates.
