It's definitely the latter.
No, he used the family excuse to negotiate for more money, that's what I find gross. The family issue was not resolved and by the sounds of it from himself and Shanny's presser, it won't ever be resolved. It comes with the territory of the job. Somehow only more money fixes this. So… you lost respect because someone took time to speak to his family, figured out what would make the stress worth it and then asked for it? Essentially something 99% of people would do?
he did use them as pawns - Low Character moveOr hear me out…. He actually took time to speak to his family. Crazy, I know.
could have really used a Zaitsev vs FloridaHard to believe they offered to extend this scumbag and it was him overpalying his hand got him canned. Thanks Kyle you prick. Lou wanted to stay and they turfed him for this genius.
Yes it was actually refreshing to see some fire in him.Brendan Shanahan just established himself as the Alpha male in the Leafs' organization.
He just gave Kyle Dubas and the whole World this message: "Don't screw around with me."
He basically said he wants the new GM to have an input on who the coach should be, not him alone. Was Shanahan asked about Keefe?
How do you propose doing that? Now please undo the Tavares and Marner bad contracts
It's definitely the latter.
To negotiate through the media.“* Told Kyle he didn't want to meet with media until clarity was gained on Kyle's situation. Told Kyle he thought he souldn't meet media either, but Kyle was adament he wanted to speak. Felt it was important.”
To me, this is the strangest part. Why was it important? What’s the thinking behind this?
He took Dubas' camp at face value, as you would. He was blindsided no doubt, but to say he doesn't have a handle on the org because Dubas was being deceitful is a stretch (to me).Because knowing and managing the organization is his job. Him not having a grasp on where Dubas was at this whole year before his contract was up so we're left scrambling with numerous critical decisions to be made is now a huge issue. Outlets have been reporting that Dubas and Shanahan had barely been speaking, yet Shanahan was apparently fully ready to bring him back even after another disappointing season.
What it tells me is that Shanahan just wants the Hockey Operations aspect out of his hair and it was only when Dubas tried to hold out for money that he actually stepped in to do something. We need people who are actually invested in trying to put a winning team together.
For the record I'm all in favour of moving on from Dubas but the way this developed makes me even less confident in this front office to get the job done.

Somehow the job is easier and less of an impact on his family if he makes more money. Makes me lose all respect tbh. I was one of his biggest supporters around here, thru everything. This disgusts me tbh.
It's definitely the latter.
He's used his last bullet. One thing for sure, Shanahan is clearly in the crosshairs now. It's his show no matter which GM he hires.
I suspect that if Snoop was owner, Dubas would have been gone last yr or the year beforeI wanna fire Bell and Rogers as owners.
Give me Snoop dog..... lol
....and his family said listen Kyle it's been a rough year but if you go back and ask for 2M more maybe I'll be able to sleep at night?Or hear me out…. He actually took time to speak to his family. Crazy, I know.
That should be Kyle's education before his next Assistant GM gig.Still can’t play poker.
Yay, the guy who hired 2 failed GMs gets to hire another, glad he is the Alpha.
