Wtf are these questions. Shanny said he talked to players, what is his sense in what this change means for keeping players esp Matthews. No one thinks to ask????

Media sucks ass

To be fair, Dubas was very aloof about his future with the leafs in the press conference and seemingly played hardball with the leafs in contract negotiations. That’s how she goes.
Guess Dubas was so used to dealing with shitty manipulative players and agents and decided to give it a go himself.

Ownership letting him go to the end of the season as a lame duck really opened things up for this to happen

can someone Coles Notes what Shanahan said?
A play by play of the details unfolded at this presser:

- Both were good with the lame duck year

-Sunday they had contract negotiation ready before the Monday Presser

-was happy with his line of work and the upper people were okay with it as well

-Monday took them by surprise and then the response between the two was very minimal and the real possibility Kyle wasn't returning begun to be realized

-Thursday Kyle returned and said he wants to come back but with a new offer likely, Shanahan and group I believe had moved on and slept over it at night and then decided the morning after whats is to now.

- Looking for an experienced GM but will have an open mind.

-Heavily going to rely on Wes Clark & Pridham in the upcoming time.

Brendan Shanahan right now:

Reading between the lines I am guessing Shanny found someone he wants in between Monday night and yesterday. When Dubas came in with a massive ask he was ready to bail.
Yeah, Dubas probably oveplayed his hand due to the timing of the contracts for AM, WN and what to get for MM.

On the positive, the new GM can explain to Mattews, "stick with us, we have the resources to surround you with tenacity and Gamers"

It's looking like amateur hour is finally coming to an end at ML$E.

The suits have finally realized Dubas is a failed GM. But apparently are warm to the notion of him having some sort of role upstairs. Can you imagine Dubas upstairs?

After five years of this crap?

The culture of this club, the loser mentality, would be officially incurable. The "paticipating is all that counts" mob, here to stay. It all, once again, comes down to the gleeful masses, cash in hand, ready to fill the seat of the next fan who has had enough of this crap.

If you're still financially supporting this trainwreck of a team, you're part of the problem.

The stench of the Dubas regime will take generations to remove. Sickening really. To think of what they've done.

What they could've done instead.

Absolute mammoth task for the next general manager. It's getting to the point where you wonder who would even take the job on. If ML$E would ever find anyone worthwhile in this situation.

Or just another greenhorn looking for his chance.
Nice to hear from you again, Howard.

This is a pretty awful look for Shanny.

Clearly had no plan in place other than try and keep Dubas - which he seemingly left too late. And may have even changed his mind rapidly beacuse of being caught off guard by things send at the last presser by Dubas' lol....

What is clear is there is absolutely no coherent plan in place for what comes next other than Shanny making things up on the fly. Need to hope he lucks out and gets things right by chance
Yeah, this is a bad look all around. Kyle kinda handled the situation poorly but Shanahan put all his eggs in one basket and now we're left scrambling with the biggest decisions this organization has had to make in a decade.

He decided after the trade deadline that he was comfortable bringing him back. Negotiated through his agent for a while. Season ends still wants to bring him back. Presser happens and in the days since Shanny changed his mind on having him back while Dubas was thinking it over on his end...Dubas sent an email yesterday saying he wants to say with his demands and Shanny said no.

Reading between the lines it's clear Shanahan viewed the Dubas press conference how many of us viewed it here (and were called Sociopaths by Dubas loyalists lol).

Shanahan thought the press conference was a power play by Dubas as a hey maybe I don't want to come back. And then subsequently followed that up with a demand for more money. He tried to play mind games and lost.

Bye Dubas. He'll learn this is how the big boys play. If this negotiation tactic is anything to go by no wonder the core took him to the cleaners on their contracts.

Seeing the full picture, it was a performative power play, appealing to public sentiment.
