I hope the next GM is active, creative and hip enough to listen to the fanbase. If I were a GM I would surf this site daily. I am a consumer of information.

As it were, after the trade deadline I would have offered him at least a year if he was open to it. His deadline was beyond expectations for me. All that was missing was a trade for a stellar left winger.
Active, creative yes, listen to fanbase not so much………

It's looking like amateur hour is finally coming to an end at ML$E.

The suits have finally realized Dubas is a failed GM. But apparently are warm to the notion of him having some sort of role upstairs. Can you imagine Dubas upstairs?

After five years of this crap?

The culture of this club, the loser mentality, would be officially incurable. The "paticipating is all that counts" mob, here to stay. It all, once again, comes down to the gleeful masses, cash in hand, ready to fill the seat of the next fan who has had enough of this crap.

If you're still financially supporting this trainwreck of a team, you're part of the problem.

The stench of the Dubas regime will take generations to remove. Sickening really. To think of what they've done.

What they could've done instead.

Absolute mammoth task for the next general manager. It's getting to the point where you wonder who would even take the job on. If ML$E would ever find anyone worthwhile in this situation.

Or just another greenhorn looking for his chance.

I’m definitely Team Shanahan on this one. Sounded like Kyle Dubas wanted to come back but used the presser to create a pressure point and ask for something else. Negotiating through the media.

I felt the same way. He couldn’t really come back as a corporate leader having made all those personal statements.
Also emailing Shanny to talk contracts?

Well if Shannys story is true... yeah it was definitely time to move on. That is so wishy washy by Dubas if that really is what happened.

To be fair... at the same time why the f*** is shanny throwing him under the bus. They should all f***ing go.

This is a bigger shit show then it needs to be.

Him emailing him that he wants to still be the GM of the f***ing Toronto Maple Leafs after ghosting for the day... not even a call... wtf lol.

They all look pretty silly right now.

Sounds like he's happy with the Leafs direction and vision based on his comments about trying to find a new GM with a different perspective. He did say "he has an open mind", but man, sure sounds like status quo is acceptable.
From what he's saying this has nothing to do with hockey direction, it was just Kyle hmm'ing and hah'ing on the contract.

He did that with Will and Marner

I dunno, seems like Shanahan was way too quick with the trigger finger to fire Dubas. Especially with how big this off-season is and how long a GM search is likely to take.

Reading between the lines it's clear Shanahan viewed the Dubas press conference how many of us viewed it here (and were called Sociopaths by Dubas loyalists lol).

Shanahan thought the press conference was a power play by Dubas as a hey maybe I don't want to come back. And then subsequently followed that up with a demand for more money. He tried to play mind games and lost.

Bye Dubas. He'll learn this is how the big boys play. If this negotiation tactic is anything to go by no wonder the core took him to the cleaners on their contracts.

This is exactly what happened. Played hard to get. You ain't a prize horse Kyle you misplayed your cards.

I think they both blew it. Dubas didn't need to speak at all, let alone air out his grievances about his family. Shanahan is going into unnecessary detail as well though and should have prepared better for this moment

This is a pretty awful look for Shanny.

Clearly had no plan in place other than try and keep Dubas - which he seemingly left too late. And may have even changed his mind rapidly beacuse of being caught off guard by things send at the last presser by Dubas' lol....

What is clear is there is absolutely no coherent plan in place for what comes next other than Shanny making things up on the fly. Need to hope he lucks out and gets things right by chance

Let me get this straight... You put Kyle into a lame duck situation. He impressed you throughout the season and playoffs. Then because he didn't sign on the dotted line right when you wanted him to, you decided he wasn't the right guy for the job anymore? All within a matter of 48-72hrs?

Shanny needs to be fired now. Dubas wanted to be the GM, he wanted Dubas to be GM, and he let his emotions get in the way of making the right decision.

Truly pathetic stuff from Shanny.

Kyle earned the right to take whatever time he wanted (within reason). He gambled on himself, and won. f*** off MLSE and f*** off Shanny.
It sounded more to me like Shanny didn’t like that Kyle wasn’t sure he wanted to be GM of the Maple Leafs. He repeated that. That’s what changed his mind or made him second guess his original stance of bringing Dubas back.
