He was in a no win situation. Put me in the big mistake bucket. The demand to blow up the core is not going to end well. Any GM that makes that trade is going to lose it. Leafs are going to slide in the standings. At least some of the fanbase won't be able to blame Dubas anymore. Wish him well. Great human being.

After five years of terrible free agent signings, horribly bad trades and brutal drafting they finally have a chance to salvage what should have been a dynasty.

Dubas can go back to running a fantasy hockey team or being a video game GM.

The proverbial silver lining, if you will….. of course they will never leave.

They will just nitpick everything done by the incoming GM through their salt-rimmed Dubas goggles….

During his end-of-season media availability this week, Dubas said it was a "family decision" whether he'd return to Toronto, making it clear the last year had been difficult on the homefront. Dubas also said that if he wasn't returning as the Leafs' GM, he wouldn't be taking a role anywhere else, either.

In retrospect I'd say the Leafs drafting during his tenure (what was supposed to be his strength) was poor. Guys like Bracco and Korshkov didn't exactly lead the Leafs to the promised land either

They were a year apart.

Willie was comparing to Drai back then. But his comparison would be Tkachuk, and Pastrnak this time and both of them got much better stats than him despite him getting 40goals this past season.

That’s why I don’t think any GMs would pay him as much as Tkachuk
