'd argue he did worse than those 2. He was handed a golden goose and managed to do nothing with it.
Like I said result wise, Dubas is the best GM since Quinn. Not defending Dubas or start a Dubas is great….bc he is far from it. Dubas underachieved as GM bc he got the most talented roster on paper since 67.
However, if we all think the players couldn’t hack it, then Dubas only downfall was really betting on the wrong horses.

Let's not get carried away. Pridham role is valuable but he's not the only guy who can do this job.

There are plenty of captalosit who's good at this. I say find the guy from Tampa. He knows what he's doing
Although I agree with you there are those who are well capable of doing the job, why would they leave Tampa Bay where they have pretty solid gigs to come over here?

If we find a great or better replacement sign me up of course

It was a bad idea to hire him in the first place and have his growing pains in the middle of us building our team that had such a promising future. He did a lot of good, but a lot of bad and the team did not do much with the talent it has.

I think now he has made a lot of strides and this is when you'd actually wanna hire him. His next team will likely do well as he learned from his mistakes here.

The next GM will have his hands full because we still got a really good team, but what are the pieces we need to move and to acquire to turn us into real contenders is the hard part.

You offer him 200 k more. A capalogist will appreciate the numbers

Honestly, this should also be Shanahan's job. He's the one who decided to go all-in with Dubas instead of letting him walk and keep Lou. The results under Dubas were not enough to justify keeping him, and they shouldn't be enough to justify letting Shanahan hire the next GM.

He didn't get it done in the post-season but Dubas built regular season Leaf records. That means something somewhere. I think he's shown that he can build a front office and get who he wants in certain roles even before he chose Dubas.

I don't see any problems with Shanahan to get another kick at the can of changing up the front office. It's not too late at all.

AA vibe I think had a lot to do with Rogers Meddling annoyingly  and not getting as much autonomy wasn't it?

I think both parties like what they have and mutual desire to move forward regarding Matthews.
I was referring to my alcoholics anonymous meetings and not dwelling on things you can't control.

But your reply made me spit out my mouthful of scotch.

I get what you mean, you're keeping Shanahan on board to hire a GM and have them establish their own infrastructure, but Shanny could easily could be gone by next spring if the Leafs underachieve again.

Someone has to steer the ship even if the captain is going to be walking the plank soon.

Being a good man and being good at being a man are not the same thing

One is about character and one is about capability

Kyle was a very good guy. Just not very good at what he did

As expected, the HF spin cycle is hard at work on the main board. Gotta love this place.

Good lord, why would you venture there at this time lol..?

It's the more logical thing I think. Unless Pridham goes out with Dubas? We'll see.

I hope not. Pridham’s cap work has been masterful.

He's not really a Dubas guy is he? Came from the league offices? Probably has more connection to Shanny then Dubas.

I'm surprised at how deflated I am to this news, and I think this is why:

Even though I didn't agree with all of Dubas' moves, I almost always understood the logic & common sense behind them - including the mistakes.

There was something deeply comforting, especially coming from those previous Fletcher, JFJ, Burke, and Nonis eras, about having a GM that made decisions that had clear & justifiable thinking behind them.

He's also had a huge influence on the organizational culture as well - we've heard repeatedly just what a world class operation the Leafs run, especially from players and people that come and go. I know those things don't count as series wins etc., but they do matter to me. I was proud of the way the organization behaved while he was running it.

I don't envision any scenario where the Leafs improve after this, and fear this is a date we circle back to in our calendars years down the road as the day the franchise's bottom fell out from underneath it.

Meh not sure what to think of this move but we needed a change. Dubas made some good move but also some bad ones. His contract negotiations were straight garbage.
