1. His relationship with the Matthews family may have been too cozy and might be reason #1.
2. The new guy will not have any ties so no problem punting that 11.6 contract.
3. After giving Will that lifetime pass:laugh:, it's now nor longer valid. Will may want to call a realtor.
4. All that weird stuff Monday about family, relationships, stepping back, not saying, but could it be that maybe he was dipping his quill in the company ink as they used to say????
5. It was time for a change. And they may have possibly already got their guy, which I've been thinking has been since about April.

Meh

He was actually pretty solid the last two years. He never filled the top 6 LW role, but got us everything we needed apart from that. It’s just a shame his first few years were where he caused the most damage to this team. Last two runs were on the core, not him imo

Him sticking with keefe also a red flag. That plug should’ve been gone last year, maybe after Montreal. Should have stayed an interim in 19-20

I don’t mind the change, but we got to be real careful who we bring in to retool/rebuild the core. We want to be competitive
All this. Liked his last offseason and this deadline but he was too slow and stubborn to adjust his mentality and sticking with the primadonnas and softboy coach are what cost a decent GM his job.

I really really really want to keep Dubas.

I know his next team gonna win a cup. Hes learned a lot.

New GM we get is gonna sit there and do f*** all. Hes gonna do a bullshit evaluation year and waste everyones time

Kyle Dubas will not return as the Toronto Maple Leafs' general manager next season, the club announced in a statement on Friday. His contract is set to expire on June 30.

"I would like to thank Kyle for his unwavering dedication over these last nine seasons with the organization, including his last five as General Manager," Toronto's president and alternate governor Brendan Shanahan said in a statement. "Kyle fostered a great culture within our dressing room and staff, and consistently pushed to make our team better season over season. We wish Kyle and his family the best moving forward and thank him for his valuable contributions."

Dubas, 37, arrived in Toronto as an assistant general manager -- hired by Shanahan -- in 2014. He also oversaw general manager duties for the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies and led them to the franchise's first Calder Cup championship in 2018.

Out of every possible reason for this split money seems the least likely. If it was family, stress, etc, then sure, if it was power and autonomy, then sure, , if it was his previous decisions and future direction sure, but no way was this purely $$.

Best case scenario is they bring in someone with a similar vision, the Leafs finally have postseason success, and Dubas haters scrounge through the tweaks made by the new GM for taking points on what a bad GM he was.

I'm pretty concerned with the timing of this, but it felt inevitable after Dubas' press conference.

I actually liked the guy, all told, and wouldn't have minded seeing him get another shot, but I do question if he made promises to the core group that he couldn't reconcile professionally and personally: the circumstances calling for a change that, perhaps, he's unwilling or does not have the wherewithall to make under the circumstances. He looked burnt out.

At least, that's what I'm telling myself. I hope it wasn't an organizational decision to walk away from him. I don't want to return to the Burke and Nonis days. Didn't love all of Kyle's moves, but he seemed like a heady GM who got a lot of business done and was a consummate professional.

Feels much different than the general managers we've parted with in the past. Who knows what happens next, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

So if i am reading th

Come on MLSE!

We have lots of money. Dubas has been here long enough, he should have freaking autonomy.

They should have fired Shanahan. Seems like they picked him over Dubas to be honest.

Pasta was coming from two 35 goals and 2 70 point seasons. Up to that point Nylander didn't do jack to earn 7 million contract. William finally got 70+ season 2 years ago. What David did 6 years ago twice

Nylanders contract should have been million less than Pasta

Pastrnak was 8.89%
Nylander was 8.76%

They were a year apart.
