I would not be surprised if Shanahan takes over interim GM -- or Pridham with help of Shanahan in some capacity, and they go a few weeks to see how it goes and what shakes out.

With the draft and FA so 4-6 weeks away I see this as the likely case.

Pridham gets the GM promotion but with large oversight from Shanny on what moves are to be made.

Spezza also may get a promotion to AGM

O'Hearn.is definitely an intriguing choice. Wild also have an analytics group which would be a familiar thing for him here
But Wilds hadn’t make it past the 2nd round.

So his drafting might be good but not good enough.

Not necessarily. But we're going from really good GM to unknown with no better options available at a critical time for the organization, and historically, the leafy thing to do would be to hire some dinosaur to screw everything up.
The critical time was when the RFA’ needed contracts and he went out and got Tavares then proceeded to invest 50% of the cap on 4 forwards.
The bottom line is none of us know if this is a good move or not but the players he invested so much faith in we’re not getting it done. His deal for Murray left us with an AHL backup and when our number one went down he became our number one. Tons of hockey fans and experts question and predicted that result.
so in effect Dubas wasn’t getting it done and running it back for the 8th year was not acceptable

It's the more logical thing I think. Unless Pridham goes out with Dubas? We'll see.

Dubas made numerous significant splashes as Toronto's general manager. He added the likes of John Tavares and TJ Brodie in free agency and was active on the trade front, acquiring Jake Muzzin, Jack Campbell, Nick Foligno, and Ryan O'Reilly while notably dealing away Nazem Kadri.

He also signed Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and Morgan Rielly to their current contracts.

Not impressed

Not sure how anyone can fault him - the roster on paper looks perfect, he made huge TDL acquisations, fixed our goalie issue without giving up too much. It was more on Keefe and the players then him.

What would you have him do? It's not his fault our Hart winner from last season went goalless
This core group has been choking for years and he did nothing to address them. He reader for a train wreck of a goalie twice and we had to rely on an AHL goalie for the second round. His faults are many

It makes the most sense. Its not like Shanny hasn't been there every step of the way in meetings.

I mentioned him earlier, but does anybody even know what he's doing after deciding to just bail on Arizona? Was widely respected, made some great moves, made some awful draft picks, cost the Yotes some early choices with the scandal. I also would love to see what a guy like him would do with a near unlimited budget.
I am unsure tbh, they are very quiet and tidy up a lot of the talks because the way things go in the desert is lax. I mean for crying out loud their WNBA team is arguably more popular than some of their other major sports

I'm guessing this is how we go into the draft with Wes Clark leading the way. I can't see us poaching an AGM and the team we take him from being like "yeah, have fun at the draft!!". Only chance it's different is if someone from inside the org is hired, or someone not currently employed in the NHL.

It'll be like when Lou was hired by the Islanders in that we made him wait until post draft.

Exactly, and that’s why you can’t parsebthsy contract out now as good value. At the time it was a total cave job, he even flew to NY to meet with his agent.
was his first big mistake, combine that with his concept of winning with hald your cap tied to4 players and I knew this guys a complete idiot..........worse, a confident idiot...........

What, he got $360k more than Pasta?

What you should be comparing is marner's to Pastarnak.

Pasta was coming from two 35 goals and 2 70 point seasons. Up to that point Nylander didn't do jack to earn 7 million contract. William finally got 70+ season 2 years ago. What David did 6 years ago twice

Nylanders contract should have been million less than Pasta

f***ing hell. We're f***ed. I dont give a shit what anyone says, he was one of the best GM's in the league, he will do amazing work with another team and we will be stuck in the mud.
And they might do even better without him.

If we are going by hindsight. The Boyle trade to make the playoffs and the Marleau signing the following summer right away sped up the rebuild.
Might also cause Hunter to draft more overagers due to needing players to come in and contribute quicker.
The JT’s signing was the accumulation of that.

However, if AM, MM, Willie and JT actually raised their level like Reilly in the playoffs, Dubas will still be GM, the core will be intact and we might have already won a Cup or two.

At the end of the day, Dubas did a lot of things right but betted on the wrong horses.
My hindsight is that Lou's biggest error was not going harder at the trade deadline in those first two playoff years. Those teams were stacked with the youth plus the remnants of good vets like Bozak, JVR, Komarov, Polak. A rental of an elite player or two for those teams might have given this new era some early taste of success with the young stars taking less prominent roles.
