I expected to hear Shanahan and Keefe for before Dubas.

It seemed that Dubas was finally waking up and seeing the light. He seemed to have completely changed his team building philosophy to include rugged players and not just pure analytical talent. Maybe he was pushed into those decisions though.

Bottom line, how Shanahan still has a job baffles me.

Sexy talk for a lot paying attention is Tulsky for sure, and I 100% agree. Carolina has been one of the best teams in the league, an analytical darling, amazing at drafting, and a team known for making shrewd moves. How much of it is Tulsky? Who knows, but we know he's been apart of it and he's very highly regarded in the league.

I personally love the idea of O'Hearn too (the AGM in Minnesota), even though I haven't heard his name. Former scout for multiple teams, and has been AGM in Arizona and Minnesota. Look at Minnesota's prospect pool since his hiring with only one top-10 pick, and you tell me he hasn't had a hand in it.

I'd look at whoever is Nill's right hand man in Dallas as well. Look at the way that team drafts outside of even Heiskanen with their late 1sts, and consistently making good FA signings and trades.

Outside of that, I'd love to hand the keys to the kingdom to Wickenheiser. The resume speaks for itself and if the team thinks she's ready I'm fully behind the move.

O'Hearn.is definitely an intriguing choice. Wild also have an analytics group which would be a familiar thing for him here

Chayka kind of makes sense, another analytics guy.

Now he might not know what to do with full cap of money though...

I mentioned him earlier, but does anybody even know what he's doing after deciding to just bail on Arizona? Was widely respected, made some great moves, made some awful draft picks, cost the Yotes some early choices with the scandal. I also would love to see what a guy like him would do with a near unlimited budget.

So Dubas is the only guy in the world that can get them a cup...
Not necessarily. But we're going from really good GM to unknown, with no better options currently available at a critical time for the organization, and historically, the leafy thing to do would be to hire some dinosaur to screw everything up. None of the Leaf fans he tagged to provoke an argument are going anywhere.

To be honest, I read that as Dubas deciding not to sign an extension which would leave his as GM until June 30. The Leafs are removing him now so they can put a new or interim GM in place before then.
Makes sense. That'd be the ultimate lame duck GM. Imagine having a GM lead you through the draft, but won't be around the next day when free agency starts up.

He took over a 105 point team that lost in the first round and ended up with a 111 point team that won one game in the second round. Big ****** deal.

Not sure how anyone can fault him - the roster on paper looks perfect, he made huge TDL acquisations, fixed our goalie issue without giving up too much. It was more on Keefe and the players then him.

What would you have him do? It's not his fault our Hart winner from last season went goalless

People will soon wish Dubas had stayed... Not many realize what they have compared to the rest of the fish in the pond lol

He was the best GM we had in decades
He literally turned 3 elite talents on ELCs into a perpetual choke job of failure.

MLSE pissed away the best chance this club has seen in decades by letting an intern learn on the job.

You only have to ignore reality in order to hold your position.

He was definitely tied to the hip with Dubas.

It'll be a shame if he goes though - I think he has a promising next stage career ahead of him in a front office capacity
he can follow Dubas, then their new team have 2 goofy smiles to annoy them.............

1. Dubas is the best GM for the Leafs since Quinn bc his team made it to the 2nd round
2. Whoever is the new GM will need to have a vision of the team quickly
3. Who cares if AM won’t resign, then trade him. Even with those guys the team barely made it past the 1st round ONCE. Cup is the most important thing not players.
THIS^.

Eveything wrong with the leafs today is his fault. No one else.

If a company's sales figures perpetually don't meet expectations because sales is not producing....do you think the CEO just gets to blame them? LOL

Full disclosure, I'm no fan of Dubas (think he's highly overrated on these boards), but I'll agree with folks here saying Shanahan should be getting the boot too. These are all his hires and eventually there has to be some accountability as to the man who put them in place. Someone earlier made a point that maybe Dubas got promoted too quickly, I'd agree with that - most of the moves he made that I hated were earlier in his tenure, the only terrible one in most recent memory is the Matt Murray trade - wonder how much it'll cost to get rid of him (hopefully not another 1st rounder).

At the end of the day, it's a result oriented business - it's easier to fire a GM/coach than the players. The biggest 'flaw' Dubas can be blamed for is to trust in his core, when the evidence is out for everyone to see. We'll see where he ends up - I'll laugh a bit if it's Ottawa.

I can agree with that. However I trust Kyle way more to make that trade than Lou. I think Kyle is better at trading. But I do agree Lou may have recognized the flaws in the core earlier.
Lou would not have added Tavares. So much of Kyle's term was spent trying to mitigate cap issues we don't know what kind of a club he could have ended up with. I do think Lou deals Willie once he starts missing games so the core is quite different from day one and of course no Keefe. Without JT and with Nylander gone I think the contracts for the other two are better for the club. Looking at the Marleau and Zaitsev signings there is a good chance Lou pisses that surplus away though.

I don't know if Dubas would be any better at breaking up the Big 3 because he is attached to them. Also his experience with high talent player trades isn't great. Except for Kadri most of it has been small stuffs or picks and youth for vets. If you look at where the club is at today, how much solid added talent is there beyond the Big 3 and Mo? If he is a great trader where are the results? A few good UFA adds though, especially if you take his first one out of the mix.

Kyles record resembles JFJ a lot more than Quinn.

I was more in favour of Dubas staying than going but at the same time, we hadn’t won.

This is a big change for the organization. It will make people uncomfortable and that is good.

I agree that there are a few candidates who would be a clear upgrade.

I’d rather not bring in a rookie GM to be honest, but I don’t love bringing in a fired guy either.

I’m not going to get too worked up until the new GM makes some moves… well unless its Peter Chirelli.
