As expected, the HF spin cycle is hard at work on the main board. Gotta love this place.

the kid just shot himself in the head with that presser............

I still believe Kyle chose to walk away and I said this situation would happen about a month ago. I know the organization will say whatever to save face. But we all know they offered him an extension. Kyle def walked. It’s why Shanny and Keefe are also not fired.

That’s the whole purpose behind Dubas‘s comments About taking some time to decide.
they have allowed him to save face but in my opinion he was not offered a contract.
He didn’t work all his life to just walk away from his dream job because it was hard.
if that is truly the case then he is not suited for the big show and should look for a career elsewhere
He was giving everyone an out when he made that comment. Might have been given a nice severance package that buys him some time.

We'll see what Shanahan has to say about the whole thing.

Generally speaking, I don't think it will be easy to replace Kyle Dubas. Let's hope whoever they bring to take over not only can they make make good hockey managerial decisions but also make some very tough decisions leading into next season.

Sexy talk for a lot paying attention is Tulsky for sure, and I 100% agree. Carolina has been one of the best teams in the league, an analytical darling, amazing at drafting, and a team known for making shrewd moves. How much of it is Tulsky? Who knows, but we know he's been apart of it and he's very highly regarded in the league.

I personally love the idea of O'Hearn too (the AGM in Minnesota), even though I haven't heard his name. Former scout for multiple teams, and has been AGM in Arizona and Minnesota. Look at Minnesota's prospect pool since his hiring with only one top-10 pick, and you tell me he hasn't had a hand in it.

I'd look at whoever is Nill's right hand man in Dallas as well. Look at the way that team drafts outside of even Heiskanen with their late 1sts, and consistently making good FA signings and trades.

Outside of that, I'd love to hand the keys to the kingdom to Wickenheiser. The resume speaks for itself and if the team thinks she's ready I'm fully behind the move.

Also for cap reasons, Dubas was after Brodie for a couple of years. They had the trade in place but Kadri vetoed a trade to Calgary, Leafs ultimately signed Brodie the following year. If there was no Tavares, Kadri is the 2C. If he's the 2C, he's not expendable.

I'm trying to look at things objectively as possible, the downfall of this team to me ultimately came down to the Tavares signing.
All of that and his reliance on dumpster bin goalies.
Mrazek and Murray mainly

Tampa was way meaner and intimidated them………or they felt like they had accomplished enough by winning 1 round to take the heat off and just coasted to the off season.
I know what my eyes tell me, what do your tell you
Tampa is a mean bunch by everyone's standards

Sure with a team that finished last and 3 rookies ready to break out. He made more progress than Dubas in his two years. Replacing him with Dubas was a colossal failure.

In retrospect it may have been better if none of them had been involved with the Leafs considering how things unfolded.

Biggest mistake Shanahan made was putting together his first front office as a piecemeal process. Should have identified his long term GM first and built things out from there

We were making the playoffs before Dubas gained real power, and in the 5 seasons with him we improved how we were doing by playing 5 more games into the playoffs. He was never the savant or saviour people portrayed him as.

I'm sure Colorado thanked their lucky stars for hiring Sakic instead of Dubas.

If we are going by hindsight. The Boyle trade to make the playoffs and the Marleau signing the following summer right away sped up the rebuild.
Might also cause Hunter to draft more overagers due to needing players to come in and contribute quicker.
The JT’s signing was the accumulation of that.

However, if AM, MM, Willie and JT actually raised their level like Reilly in the playoffs, Dubas will still be GM, the core will be intact and we might have already won a Cup or two.

At the end of the day, Dubas did a lot of things right but betted on the wrong horses.

See my original post.

I am leaving.

I am a Leaf fan and will be cheering for them next year
Good to see,

I will say

Dubas >>>>> Shanny

This issue is 90% on that clown. Shanny brought nothing to the table and is still going to keep his job, it boils my blood.

Dubas was just now ready to be a good GM, after 2 pretty good years of work. Shanny shouldn't have ever promoted him in 2018. He should have became our GM 2020 or 2021 and we and dubas would have been better off

Very well said, because the upcoming years will require a massive influx of young and a change of guards for sure to move forward while we still have a solid window and chips on the table. There is also of course the possibility of a special homeboy might be able to come over. :naughty: I will hold no breaths.

I know canes is getting a lot of the love but Minnesota and Dallas definitely doesn't get the flowers they deserve to make it work.
