I would have been on the fence with three suspensions but at least he had skill and heart and went on to win a cup.
He certainly wouldn’t have stood around whil Reilly get wrecked and Marner gets punche in the face and nobody did anything
That’s the thing. The boys actually showed up and had a pack mentality against TB but didn’t against Panthers. Really strange

Just a shame many of us fans that saw the mis-laid loyalty years ago and wanted it dealt with then. Now the team is in a very uncompromising situation and it feels like we'll be starting from scratch, again.
It was just such a weird, unforced error. He could have simply had confidence in them breaking through without turning it into this whole circus and betting his career on them. Every GM values some players more highly than the fans do, but you don't see many of them needlessly tie their careers to them in such a public way. Especially players and a coach who have never won anything

Every GM has a shelf life. His biggest flaw always been Keefe

Wish him all the best. But he was part of a management that wasted best years of this core

Not sure why ppl are crying. He didn't exactly take this core to the next level. At the end of the day, this is a performance focused industry. He's not exactly connor mcdavid of GM

Two years too late in my opinion. The entire management needed to go after Montreal fiasco

Well other teams wanted him. So I don’t get your point? He wanted to be a GM somewhere. Was he supposed to not advance his career? Toronto didn’t have to give him the job if they didn’t want to.

Same way Dubas didn’t HAVE to hand out the contracts he did to Nylander, Marner and Matthews.
Its a power move to force his way into the GM position. End of story.

He should have held out on Nylander the entire season instead of caving first. The rest would have thought twice about holding out.

This is my favourite hypothetical.

Ok so Nylander sits all year and doesn’t have a contract next offseason, neither do Matthews and Marner. You think Michael Nylander, Paul, Ferris, and Matthews’ people don’t get together and say “your team has 0 offense without us, and you can’t spend our money on anyone in UFA until you either sign or trade us at a discount, also we’re all actively looking at offer sheets so clocks ticking”.

It would legitimately be the least amount of leverage any GM has ever had and would set us back to square one of the rebuild during a string of underwhelming top picks if he doesn’t cave to their new demands. We’re probably running a Lafreniere-Kadri-Kakko top line right now in that universe.

His biggest flaw was his stubbornness.

Shanahan is probably able to stay on because it doesn't appear that Dubas was fired/forced out by the organization. Keefe's future is likely to be undecided until the new GM is in place (him being here now isn't necessarily a guarantee that he will remain here).
That’s the whole purpose behind Dubas‘s comments About taking some time to decide.
they have allowed him to save face but in my opinion he was not offered a contract.
He didn’t work all his life to just walk away from his dream job because it was hard.
if that is truly the case then he is not suited for the big show and should look for a career elsewhere
