I’ve seen enough, make this guy the head coach
For all team mates to understand their role I added now positions of opponents (red) and Habs (blue) players. I made ice white instead of black so that I can draw the same picture for the guys every time Patty's line goes on the ice:

i heard a wild thing about Laine from someone that is involved with a former team of his.

Laine is extremely addicted to his video games that he cannot play on the TVs in the hotels he stays in and every single city they travel to, the first thing he does is buy a big tv from an electronic store so he can play his video games and then just leaves the TV in the room when they check out of the hotel.

again this is word from an employee of a former team of his. Laine will not leave his room before or after any game to hang out with the guys and is glued to his gaming.

Who knows if its actually 100% true or not so feel free to believe it or not. Just seemed kinda truthful from the employee i heard it from.
Best Buy loves him

He needs so much space to create anything, he's just unable to use his shot in tight spaces at all. That combined with a below average work ethic explain his negative impact 5v5. He's still a top 5 shooter on PP but that's pretty much it at this point.

Where have you been hearing these Habs fans' voices, and what exactly have they been telling you?

The reality is most Habs fans were thrilled to get Laine for almost nothing, for a salary we had plenty of room to afford. His potential was undeniable, as was the risk. Since then, we've seen both. His shot has been a game-changer, but he's also been useless in many games and a handicap with the puck. I'd estimate 95% of Montreal fans know what they're getting with him, for better or worse.
I would say no one realized he would be this terrible on 5v5. Give him next season to turn it around but we should be prepared to move him off the 2nd line if this continues because he is really dead weight.

You’re dismissing the importance of a short in-season tournament because it’s a short in-season tournament (world juniors) but then you use another short in-season tournament (4 nations) as validation. Daft.
I was more pointing to their spots on the 4 nation rosters (which were earned primarily off their NHL play over the past 3 years) and current NHL impact.

Current NHL impact compared to other players from said nation. Let’s not pretend Laine would have made Canada or US’s roster.

He was playing with 2 wingers including Dach whose barely a 4th line player.

He needs a serious center man with speed and skill and he’ll be fine. Easily a 60p 30 g guy
We've heard this same song and dance since 2018-19. Laine just needs great players and then he's going to score 100 points and 60 goals. He's on his third team and has had both good and bad line mates. No matter where he plays or with who, his problems are the exact same. He's slow as f***, he's weak as f*** on the boards, he gets gassed quickly and he's not that interested in playing defence. That's on him, no one else can magically fix his problems for him.
