Do you honestly think Shanny was the NuHockey guy? I dont think Shanny was running the show in that capacity.
Unfortunately I think the answer is yes. If Shanny had some latent old school philosophies towards the game, let's face it things would have gone very differently over the past 5 seasons.

People will hate on Kyper but the guy has connections around the league.
i dont know if its just me, but he usually seems angry and bitter any time he talks about the Leafs.
cant remember him saying anything positive or optimistic

Funny how some rip the media when they voice a different opinion than theirs but are hailed when they voice the same opinions. Remember how Seravelli was ripped by some for saying there was a power struggle between Shanny and Kyle ??

He came here cheap because he thought this team could legitimately contend. If he retires, that says a lot about what he thinks of the core, and their ability to compete when not matters.

Well yeah definitely. But Gio has passed his best before date on his own so I’ll leave the core out of this one.

You may not like him but of course he's an insider.
You don't play in the league and then hang around afterwards without knowing a ton of people.

He had a lot of gossipy intel. Absolutely an insider. Maybe not texting with Kyle and Shanny but a lot of second hand psst type stuff comes dribbling out all the time.

The intersting thing is Servali was ahead of the curve at the time. Should we take his speculation as more factual that others?

Being the Toronto Maple Leafs GM must one of the best prestigious managerial positions available in sports.

To let your own incompetence take you out must be a bitter pill to swallow. However the silver lining for Toronto is that every day that Dubas is gone, is another day of healing for the Leafs organization.

Taking 5 years to win 5 playoff games in a single season as your high water mark, is a pretty low bar that it shouldn't be too difficult for almost any competent GM to step over, and move the organization forward and show progress in short order.

After all for comparison purposes, the recent expansion Seattle Kraken after taking out the defending Cup Champs Avs in round #1, bowed out in game #7 in round #2 to Dallas Stars by a score of 2-1 after wining 7 playoffs games in only their 2nd year of existence after starting from scratch 2 years ago. They were so close to almost making the final 4.
It takes years, YEARS of building to make the playoffs in the NHL....

He usually doesn’t but I think some of his takes about the Leafs are right. People don’t like to hear it since it’s Kyper saying it.
he's another one that was 'soft' on Holl, but, basically doesnt think Lil is a nhl caliber dman (if i remember correctly, which i often dont, old age and head shots from the wife)

I listen to what the creditable media folks (i.e. not Howard Berger, Eklund, etc.) have to say and I form my own opinion. I may not like what some have to say but I am not going to call them worthless when they are making a good living out of it.

Kypreos has no credibility as an insider but it’s plausible
Just watched that and to be clear, Kyper did not say Gio was mulling over retirement. He said he "should mull it over" because he is going to be 40 soon , took a beating in the playoffs and has made 64 million.

Mess I wanna try whatever you take before posting sometimes. The reality of the situation is Dubas was a decent/above average GM. But he’s not an amazing GM. People are acting like he set back the team 100 million years. No he didn’t. The team is still in decent shape.

How is Dubas even comparable to Dave Nonis, Brian Burke, JFJ, is beyond me. JFJ traded a star goaltending prospect for a bust of a goalie and then backed that up by trading another first for an even shittier goalie. Burke gave away two corner stone first rounders, then traded up to pick two busts in the first round. Nonis traded assets to get Bernier who wasn’t the greatest goalie, he selected Gauthier in the first round instead of Shea Theodore.

All 3 were way worse for our organization. Dubas did alright, could have done better but he’s far from the worst GM this organization has seen.

Lily to me is interesting because I can see a world where he becomes stagnant and stays a bottom pair dman. I can also see another world he develops into a top 4 dman. He’s been very inconsistent. I believe he can develop into a top 4 dman but there are some concerns to his game still. Could be a simple fix where a new coach will know how to utilize him properly.

He was so solid for most of the year, but he played way too much down the stretch and many in here saw that and wondered why Keefe wouldnt rest him. Watching him get pasted in the playoffs with no reaction whatsoever from our spineless crew was embarrassing. Dont get me started on the lack of response for the Knies situation. Hard to watch guys not go to war for each other when every other single team does.

Lilly is one of thos players that would become gold if he ends up on another team

We gotta figure out how to effectively keep developing him

Leafs Home Board
I am trending to think that won't occur until the me me me Shanny The Politician is canned....this way he can permamently stay in NYC instead of going back & fotth (on the company jet) between shows....where his mind is really at....
In a previous life, a long time ago when I was still working for Bill Gates at Microsoft, they taught us to "Think outside the Box" and not re-invent the wheel.

Well how about this for Out of the Box Thinking?

MLSE deals former Blues and current Leafs President Brendan Shanahan (still under contract for 2 seasons)

to the STL Blues for Doug Armstrong, currently the President of hockey operations and general manager for the St. Louis Blues (still under contract for 3 more years). In a swap of Presidents 1 for 1.

Problem solved as Doug Armstrong serves as both President and GM cutting out the middle man in reporting purposes, and MLSE addresses 2 birds with only 1 stone.

Who is with me on this one? Larry Tanenbaum and Bell/Rogers are you listening :wg:

PS. I like winners and Doug Armstrong is a winner as he is fresh off his Gold Medal win for Team Canada at the World Championships as GM.

Ya im actually excited about watching the next act play out in this drama
I am when I think of some of the changes that might happen and then Im not if I start thinking that they are going to run it back. My contentment is hanging in the balance here waiting to see which direction this team goes. So Im excited but scared at the same time.
