Dubas making excuses. If the other team liked the deal they'd have waited the 3 days lol. Oh my God 3 days the horror. Most deal are verbal agreed to beforehand before business side too. There must be a reason protocol is in place that makes it longer to turn unofficial into official.

Other gms don't like dubas enough to give us good deal either in my opinion. Looking back we should have went with a non rookie with lots of contacts for better access to playing chips

Yikes
Yup. We just get 10 different articles all saying the same shit quoting the same "report" lol. This market is just ridiculous.

Like one "big name" d man was moved last year, and he was available for over a year. Youre going to have a tough time convincing me that a deal completely fell apart because someone had a wait a day or two. And if it was for Chychrun in the first place, I'm glad they didn't get him because hes one of the most injury prone players out there.

Tavares over payment amount is not the reason dubas couldn't build a good team. Even coming into this season you can find up to 20 mil cap space on garbage to shed that didn't involve touching any core players.

Dubas sucks. That's all.

I find this story tough to believe. There was NO way to mitigate this reporting structure? Like keeping Shanny and the board apprised of the trade progress? Letting Shanny/the board know the other GM could need an answer quickly? Or letting the GM know there could be a few days for approval?

I don't get it.

What big name D got traded where you can say Leafs lost them because the approval didn't come in time (and it can't be a dmen that didn't get traded because of our approval time, which is why the name doesn't exist. That's a contradiction. We have all the time in the world if we're the only team in on it LOL)

There was literally zero dmen trades that occurred in the last 2 years where you needed to urgently pull the trigger.

Not even the usual Dubas suspects are going to buy that one.

Dubas is just embarrassing himself now. Take your L silently and move on dude.

What big name defence men was moved last/this year?

Chychrun?

Pass.

God these reports of people in the org not being able to work for anyone other than Dubas is just absolutely pathetic and should be cleaned up immediately.

This is exactly what happens after any cult of personality is ended. The followers are incapable of functioning on their own and for anyone else. These structures self-destruct without a leader.

This sort of situation can be very difficult to handle if you wish to treat every one on an individual basis. What you'd like to do is treat each individual as a professional and give them the benefit of a doubt that they'll be able to function under new leadership. But that sort of fair treatment will leave potential saboteurs in place amongst others who just happened to have started their hockey career under Dubas. It is just as easy to clear them all out and start over with a skeleton crew of holdovers who pre-date Dubas joining MLSE.

And make no mistake, if this reported ugly situation in the front office is true, this isn't simply Dubas' fault. This is all on Brendan Shanahan who allowed a cult of personality to set up shop in his front office. IMO the Board at MLSE should be in the process of hiring a new president who comes with a new GM (maybe the same person). Wouldn't that be quite the situation if Monday morning there is someone representing the MLSE board who announced the new president and his new GM all while Shanahan has been interviewing candidates to replace Dubas. It could happen.

MLSE better be careful, get too progressive and you may hurt the brand, disagree? Go ask Budweiser, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, Levi’s et al they’re all hurting for pushing agenda’s not appreciated by their client base………

Do you think he asked his wife “does this t shirt

You make some excellent points. MLSE does seem pointed in that that direction & more interested in defending social agendas than winning. They should be very leery as those so firms are experiencing significant downtowns in sales etc...Mlse is not exempt ftom 'get woke go broke'....I want the Leafs run by a competent person just looking to win not a pied piper...what in the world is going on?

It’s a pretty good photoshop I’d say, top tier troll job

Burns was traded on July 13 of last year. The dates significant because it is the date his signing bonus was paid out 3.5M and it cuts the payout down from 16.5M for 3 years to 13M. SJ also retained 1/3 of that cost.

Situationally, that would be the D that aligns best and he'd be a more attractive asset with more suitors after being paid that bonus

I supposed wearing that shirt is not by accident, just as what he said in his last presser with the Leafs?
Its cringe level snake shit. Pits better run from this guy.

Have to credit he duped most people including MLSE. Some caught it right off and others took a bit longer. After MTL though you gotta be a shill

70+ point 2nd line centers don't make $11M...it's just science
So here’s a hypothetical for you.

Let’s say Tavares is a free agent today looking for a two year deal.

So he’s a 32 year old center, coming off a season where he played 80 games, had 36 goals and 44 assists for 80 points total. In the playoffs he played 11 games and had 4 goals and 4 assists.

On a two year deal, what does he get paid?

He probably gets the Claude Giroux deal. 6-6.5 ish. Giroux was a center as well, transitioned to the wing. Put up 79 points.

Around $7 million (Nylander money).

So we have antidubites being annoyed at the pro dubas media articles, calling out the dubites here that complain about the antidubites who tell the dubites to ignore the antidubas threads and posts, when the antidubites themselves can just ignore the pro dubas articles themselves....

Fun times we in right now.

Mattias Ekholm makes the most sense as the defender in question.

I'm surprised by the bolded given the detail in the rest of the article :sarcasm:

There's no mention of who that high-end defenseman might have been, but when you consider that the Leafs ended up bringing in a trio of defensemen in before the deadline in Jake McCabe, Luke Schenn and Erik Gustafsson AND the fact that they were willing to move both Rasmus Sandin and their 1st round picks this year and in 2025, it's pretty safe to say that there might be something to this report.

Claude signed for three years at 7M, 7M & 5.5. He was 35 and coming off a 21 goal, 44 assist season.

I would think John being younger at 32 and on a two year deal, he would probably get 7-8M per season. Which would equate to him being overpaid by 3-4M per year compared to his current contract.

To me the issue with signing John, wasn’t that he wasn’t a good signing as an RFA, it was that his addition handcuffed the Leafs and going forward it was going to make it difficult to sign Marner and Matthews—which it did. While the Leafs were able to sign both of them as well as Nylander, in the process they tied up too much salary in too few players. They instead should have traded one big salary and added other key pieces they needed.

Hopefully a new GM address this and make a tough decision to rebalance the salary structure of the team.
