To be fair cousins is kind of a 4th liner

Impressive how much Tkachuk has helped raise his and Bennett's game...

Takes a lot to do that while our superstar needs one of the best playmaking right wingers in the game with him at all times

I think Bennett scored a hat trick in the playoffs as a rookie for the Flames. Maybe it was his debut. Too lazy to check. So he’s always been much better in the playoffs than in the regular season. One of the pandemic years when I was watching a lot of out of town games guys like Bennett really popped in terms of playoff play. Don’t remember if it was the bubble or the shortened year. Perry in Dallas too. Dubas and co. really just seemed to have an allergy to these kind of players.

Bennett was such a great add and everyone here just loved to scream about Pts / 60 and GF % etc, reality is they couldn't look up from a spread sheet.

Bennett is pretty average in the regular season but really knows how and when to elevate and Tkachuk and him are an absolute load down low to go up against. The X-factor? Every player knows they will punch you in the face if it gets dirty so you can play them hard but no one is gonna take liberties.

Edit: Treliving traded him but he got blocked by coaching in Calgary.

Gaudreau and Tkachuk at LW and then Monahan/Backlund and then Lindholm at centre...they put him at RW but it wasn't the same. Tkachuk actually transitioned well to his off-wing.

He said he could have gotten more draft capital but chose to get Gus.

Not bad but if Keefe wasn't gonna dress Gus, despite him looking like 1 of the better D in the Florida series then the draft capital was probably more worth while to get.

Dubas should have pried Tom Wilson out of Washington, but allergies to toughness didn't help him.

Leafs Home Board
I cant believe the Leafs let one of the best GMs in the league go over a press conference.

Here is a link to that report :wg:

Fans had the same reaction to the Lamoriello news & it had nothing to do with who next GM will be

Once the news broke, the reactions poured in and there was a common theme we saw from the hockey world now in regards to the reaction to the news:.

The Toronto Maple Leafs made a major announcement on Monday morning involving Lou Lamoriello's role with the team going forward.

Brendan Shanahan announced that Lamoriello won't be back as the Leafs' GM next season.

I think it was the continuation of playoff failure. Big picture 1 round win in the last 2 decades.
Medium picture in the last 7 years one single round win
Final picture, only 1 series win in the 5 years Dubas has been in control.
The team has gone from a fast playing exiting team to a slow plodding soft team that disappears when the going gets tough.
This is why he should have been fired as soon as the Leafs were eliminated. As to why he really got fired we may never know for sure

There is a time and place for micromanagement. If you don’t trust a GM to do their job, replace them, or be the President/GM. I do agree that certain things, like large contracts should be reviewed. But trades, draft picks… general management of a team, should be run by the general manager.

Yes, media can create controversy. But in this case, the signs of issues were visibly there. This was even predictable and discussed here.

What were these signs though? I'm actually very curious because it seems like Dubas got everything he wanted. His entire staff from the Soo hired, many players from the Soo signed to either the Marlies or Growlers and even some for the Leafs. Made many trades and made a lot this year alone at the deadline to completely change the bottom 6. Read 1 thing about a Knies trade being blocked but then it came out that Dubas and Shanahan didn't want to do that trade and don't know how that report got out. Idk what else a President could do to prove that a GM has all the power to be a GM if he let all of this happen.

Do you have evidence of this "micromangement" besides rumors and innuendo?

I must have missed these signs

Could you provide some of the factual examples of micromanagement?

So far the examples I have read about are the Tage Thompson one, and the Knies / MAF / Hagel one, both of which have been debunked.

Anything @Fogelhund ?
