If Bennett or Gudas played this way for the leafs they would be suspended
That's because we play such a non confrontational style. If we played rough all the time like Boston or FLA...they kind of get used to it. We have 1 or 2 guys who even remotely act like pricks and it stands out too much.

Seattle won the super bowl 10yrs ago based on the coach's premise that they were going to interfere with the opposing teams receivers on every play and dared them to keep calling penalties. They got away with it because he knew the league would be pissed at all the yellow flags. Sometimes it helps to be devious...but not our team..not this management.

"I want to know, am I making the decisions, or are you making the decisions?"

To me, this is a bit of a mess. What quality GM wants to come here, knowing that Shanny has the final say on things? That they will be GM, but without really the power that normally comes with that position? The stress of the job in Toronto, but then maybe handcuffed?

If Shanny wants to run things like this, and promised the core four they are staying, removing Dubas doesn't accomplish anything.

If Shanny wants to be final say on things, he should be the one taking pressers after every loss. What GM wants to come into a situation where he thinks he can turn the team around with a Matthews trade only to be told he can’t do that and instead gets to change the window dressing and be the punching bag in May?

First off, Shanahan is the President of the Toronto Maple Leafs and is ultimately responsible for all major decisions that impact the club. Every GM in every sport has a President or an Owner that they need to run certain things by. It's not only corporate governance, it's just smart management.

Secondly, remember these reporters are in the business of getting readership and creating controversy is tried and true method of achieving that objective.

No, it is literally about Chris Armstrong lol.
You really think if they do an investigation and find out he was colluding or whatever with this agency that a lot of teams would want him being in a position of power in their organization?

They are doing an investigation about "'whether agents working in different divisions or branches of the same agency are also prohibited from representing hockey executives on the opposing side."
The collusion with the agency by Dubas is part of the mountain being made out of this mole hill.

As someone pointed out the agent in question is also the Senior Vice President or whatever which doesn't look very good from the outside. It makes that counter argument that it's just an investigation about different divisions or branches of the same agency aka the golf guy and the hockey guy not seem like the best defence since his job as SVP makes him very involved in the company.

I see the #FakeNews of Shanny running the team is still going strong huh?

- Dubas in his presser: "I'd be a GM here (i.e. Leafs) or nowhere else."

if shanny was c***b***ck dubas why the F would dubas want to remain here to begin with?

Second,
do you think it was Shanny;'s idea to:
1) Fire babcock (25 million dollars to sit at home);
2) the Sparks fiasco,
3) Malgin for Marchment trade (Shanny was really good freind of his dad);
4)Shanny: we expect eh young leaders to give discounts on the contract -> BOOM dubas signs them to an out of the world deal;
5) "We can and we will" do you think Shanny forced dubas to go out like a freakin moron and say this to the media on many different media outlets?
6) dubas overturned half the roster at this year's TDL (absolutely STUPID IMO you don't do shit like this on TDL but off season so team has more tiem to gel); do you think Shanny put a gun to dubas' head?
7) Did Shanny force dubas to protect freakin holl at the expansion draft instead of McCann?
8) etc....

I could list a bunch of other examples here

This fake stories of Shanny controlling dubas needs to go away. There is no merit to those stories as they don't pass the smell test.

Dubas was TRASH and he is not going to ruin teh Leafs anymore. This should be a cause for celebration.

He is the the current Executive Vice President, Golf for Wasserman.
How could it not look good from the outside?
He is involved in the company as Executive Vice President, Golf for Wasserman. Remember people were making fun of Dubas for having a golf guy as an agent.

The examination is about this "t’s critical to note that Armstrong isn’t listed as a certified agent by the NHLPA as he primarily represents professional golfers, including Tony Finau and Cameron Champ. He isn’t subject to discipline by the NHLPA but it will likely be determined whether he exploited a loophole by working for Dubas while being registered as a golf agent. There is no express written rule at the time that Armstrong can’t work as a hockey agent if the NHLPA cleared his relationship with Dubas."

it is not a counter argument it is why there is an investigation.

Confusion and hurt ripples through Maple Leafs in wake of Kyle Dubas’ dismissal

GettyImages-1255072142-1024x719.jpg

Anger. Confusion. Shock. Disappointment.

Those are some of the feelings reverberating around the Maple Leafs right now in the aftermath of Kyle Dubas’ firing as general manager last week.

The Athletic reached out to several people who work for the Leafs this week. Anonymity was granted to them as they were not permitted by the team to speak to the media.

This story reflects their feelings at the moment and speaks to a level of disillusionment that team president Brendan Shanahan and the next GM of the Leafs will have to work to unwind.

“I’m in mourning right now,” one person who worked in the front office with Dubas during his time with the Leafs said.

There’s a real sense of loss for staff members. Dubas was their leader and the one who hired many of them. Suddenly, he was gone a week after the season came to an end – and without, in their minds, a satisfactory explanation as to why.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” a Leafs front office member said of the way Dubas was let go. “That’s why it’s disappointing.”

Shanahan went from wanting to bring Dubas back to firing him in a matter of days. And then offered his version of events in a press conference that left people inside the organization confused and upset.

........................

It’s security they have because of Dubas.

Though he wasn’t offered an extension himself, not until after the trade deadline, Dubas fought to extend staff members who entered last season with expiring contracts. He got them extended with one, two, and three-year deals.

At least one staff member was inclined to ride things out with Dubas for an uncertain year. Dubas insisted — take the security, protect your family.

“Don’t worry about me,” he told his people. “I’ll be OK.”

Those close to Dubas insist they liked working for him. Dubas put them first and had clearly grown into his leadership role.
This article might genuinely be the lamest shit I've ever read. They're acting like Dubas was Jesus and died on the cross

Give me a break, GMs lose their job lmfao

Are you seriously acting like Boborovsky hasn't beren below replacement level for pretty much all of that contract and it's the reason Florida has had to lose players they'd probably prefer to keep? Call me when one of the Leafs' $10 million guys plays below replacement level for an entire regular season.

Call me when one of the Maple Leafs $10 million guys plays in the Stanley Cup Final.

This character assassination of Kyle Dubas is pretty unwarranted.

He was our GM. While he was here, he was nothing but a class act. He is gone now for reasons that could be related to money or power, we can't say.

Let's move on, gracefully!
It's honestly crazy, I get it if you don't like Dubas' hockey decisions but by all accounts he seems like a decent guy who put forth his best effort in Toronto.

People want the Leafs to hire Coach Q and he let one of his players get sexual assaulted and wrote the guy that did it a glowing recommendation letter that he used to get a job with teens and sexual assault them.
So yeah I think Dubas will be fine

Executive Vice President of the "talent and innovation" division, whatever that is. But not the whole company.

I've only seen Steve Simmons say they wanted that and I thought anyone with a brain didn't take his opinions or articles seriously at all.

That's impressive at how fast they finished their investigation. Can't wait to read the findings when put online. Give me a link when it does.

The collusion with the agency by Dubas is part of the mountain being made out of this mole hill.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer there to not even be a mole hill, let alone a mountain, when it comes to the GM having apparent conflicts of interest. There should never even be a speck of possibility that is possible and for Dubas to put himself in a position where it's so much of a possibility that agents across the league and the NHLPA are looking into it is frankly a disserve to the Leafs organization.

But like I said I'm old fashioned. Some people around here seem to be okay with anything.

I think everyone prefers that, but there is a mole hill and it is being made into a mountain.

Do you prefer that? Have you actually stated anywhere in this thread your disappointed or annoyed with Dubas's poor choice in this regard? I apologize if I missed it.

He has been with Chris Armstrong since Armstrong was at IMG. He moved to Wasserman in 2010 so for 13 years there has been no issue- there really isn't now.

Okay so when you said "everyone prefers that" you clearly don't include yourself in that group. As you are perfectly fine with apparent conflicts of interest. Also, its' been reported pretty much everywhere that Armstrong was a new agent for Dubas in this latest negotiation with the Leafs. Where did you read he's been with Armstrong since pre-2010? The point is we don't know whether or not its been a issue. People can speculate how fair that matthews contract was now or how fair the upcoming one would have been if Dubas had stuck around. Any respectable GM in the league shouldn't put themselves in a position where that kind of speculation has fertile ground.

Why is this still a thing people think is real? The GM has the power to do what they please. Obviously if you're going to be trading a core piece in their prime you better come back to the people writing the cheques with a very good deal to replace their most profitable player.
Are you trying to suggest that trading for/signing everyone who's ever had a piss-break in the Soo was Kyle's idea? And we're supposed to believe that his best bud getting the coaching job without interviewing a single other soul was also Kyle's idea?
What's next? I bet Kyle was able to trade for 1/3 of a roster around the deadline as well?

Shanny clearly had the shackles around Kyle. The poor guy couldn't do anything he wanted. That monster Brendan made sure of that. Hahaha.
