I always found it odd he was targeting a lot of SOO players. That just spoke to his ego and lack of intellect/experience for other players/management throughout the NHL.

Like you're the GM of the Leafs. Go bully the landscape and target the best players/staff no matter from where.

I keep reading here that Matthews went from happy to mad. Do we really have any proof that Matthews is mad because Dubas is gone or is it just a couple of hockey writers looking for attention

Good. The core should be mad and uneasy. They crapped the bed. The only guy who took accountability for this teams faults is now gone and now they get to face the music.

It's an odd thing to do for a modern NHL GM into in-depth advanced stats. Isn't that army of spreadsheet warriors at MLSE supposed to be uncovering hidden gems world wide?

I mean he did try to Barabanov who is a decent NHLer if you dont' want to backcheck
Then there was Mikko Lehtonen..... Was supposed to be a star in NHL if I wasn't mistaken

I love how the media is acting as if Shanny & Pridham can't facilitate trades or extend the core four.

They can. But a player (fairly) may legit have questions about the future direction of the team that can't be answered until the next GM is in place.

This is likely particularly true for core guys like Matthews/Nylander who will be among the front offices' biggest priorities/complicated negotiations

They extend them with NMCs and the new GM can no longer trade them. Whoever is in charge of the longterm vision needs to be in place well before July 1st, or we’re getting an MLSE puppet who will continue to rearrange depth pieces.

Dubas wasn't sure if he wanted to stay on as GM, he didn't relay that to Shanahan. Dubas kept his honest thoughts to himself and his wife, sounds like he wanted more control, free to make decisions without 3 sign offs. He went on Monday to lay the groundwork for the potential sabotage after Wednesday, he knew what he wanted and was going to get it or be gone. When you come back to the table with a ridiculous counteroffer you are really saying you don;t want the job without your terms. Saying that it was either Toronto or nothing was for the Toronto media in his eventual conclusion, not looking like he didn't want to stay in Toronto. It adds up, Shanahan was blindsided with the counter offer and email from Kyle, if they were close it was a phone call, pretty clear Shanahan mentioned that to present their disconnect. It's time to move on

Dubas going to Pittsburgh, trading Crosby/Malkin/Letang to Toronto for Mathews.

Leafs win a Cup, Dubas builds a team in Pittsburgh around Mathews

Dubas brings a cup to Toronto after all

Any competent lawyer could negotiate a contract handed the parameters of the maximum the team is willing to pay, the preferred duration and the acceptable distribution schemes for the money. Fortunately everyone is in place to generate that information.

The leafs not having a GM like 5 weeks before Matthews/Marner get that NMC is concerning

We need to bring in a GM asap or promote Pridham

Get this distraction out of the way and assess what direction this team is moving in next year

You said "is Shanahan really not going to hire a GM?"

I'm not certain where you got the idea he isn't going to hire a GM from?

Sorry, meant I'm concerned he will delay this until after the draft.

He won't be the GM himself, so he will hire/promote a GM.

We don't have the time to be patient and wait for the playoffs to wrapup.

We need our guy soon, ideally by this Friday, giving them around a month to make moves/extend the core

I don't think he goes to Pittsburgh. I think he'll end up in Ottawa. That will be friggin painful, if Dubas in Ottawa hands it to us. Literally a worst case scenario.
why fear a GM so incompetent? Good news if he gets hired by any eastern team imo, but no doubt he's considered a pariah by many teams after his power take over attempt.........

Time is ticking here and we have no GM. Sort of embarrassing
