That's great news!
I was always against his idiotic philosophy of building a team around skilled players who were afraid of contact and had no willingness to put their bodies on the line in the playoffs.

He built a team that was flashy for the regular season but were bullied and out-willed in the playoffs.

bye bye
Can you tell me another sport that changes rules in playoffs?

No wonder the NHL is losing viewerships.

You play 82 games with NHL rules that make the game fun and the stars shine.

Then playoffs come and rules change to glorify goons.

Bad product

Imagine if we had Olympic size ice in NHL

That would be great hockey IMHO

I thought he built a pretty good team. Our roster for the playoffs this year was pretty stacked.

His mistake I think was with the coaches. I don't think Babcock or Keefe ever got the most out of the talented players we had.
Hard to get the most out of players that won't go hard to the net
But I do agree, Keefe didn't help things at all

He might not be out of answers, but when his answers to goaltending include Matt Murray held together with velcro, the team is better off without said answers
Time will tell.

I'm not convinced they'll be "better off without" him - this feels like the sort of move that leads to the bottom falling out and a franchise regreting it down the road.

Time will tell.

Dubas' mission statement when he came in was that they were going to build a safe environment and protect the players. Not only did they succeed in doing so, they went completely overboard.

Massive contracts, zero accountability, no repercussions for the empty 'give a shit' meter, walking statements back when Mitchy does not agree with them. (even though they were 100% accurate)

Knies getting abused and injured, Kampf getting stapled after the whistle, no push back at all from this group. I guarantee you Shanny was losing his f***ing mind watching that...the new coach is gonna be a hard ass who's gonna demand more.

That is why having a GM with 1 year less is very dangerous when making a huge splash at the deadline on UFAs who appear to be walking.

Never thought deadline buys were worth it. If the core can't get over the hump, adding some secondary pieces won't change that

In the end, despite some good moves, some horrible ones, some shrewd thinking, some good and bad culture wise, he really accomplished nothing, given what he walked into. Nobody thought we’d be sitting here with so many failures after he was hired.
Exactly. All this Dubas praise shocks me. Dude made a few good moves with the surrounding pieces of the team, but never fixed the real problem at the heart of this team. He didn't have either the stones or was too stubborn to do it and it's the hill he died on. I'm glad he's gone. Wish him all the best but right now all I see is a slightly better John Chayka. I don't expect this huge success wherever he goes like some dubites are saying
