It is what it is. Time to move on.

There are competent managerial and coaching candidates out there that would love to work in Toronto.

I don't like everything he's done, but I can't remember a Leafs GM who won as many trades and drafted as well as Dubas.

I guess it depends on who they bring in as his replacement. Could be another Nonis/Burke-esque GM lol.

Hope Keefe is gone too.

Leafs will probably take a step back roster/talent wise but hopefully it leads to more playoff success.

That's great news!
I was always against his idiotic philosophy of building a team around skilled players who were afraid of contact and had no willingness to put their bodies on the line in the playoffs.

He built a team that was flashy for the regular season but were bullied and out-willed in the playoffs.

bye bye
Did he draft any of the soft players this team is built around? I suppose he could have shipped them off and then be called a poor talent evaluator. I know he gave them the money and contracts, and he has to own that, but I wouldn't say he picked those core pieces. Apart from the core, he added plenty of "gud pros" that also flopped just as hard in the playoffs. Maybe it's something in the Scotiabank water.

Shanny should go too.
After today I wouldn't. The only mistake he made was allowing Dubas to force his hand in firing Lou. From an org pov 2014-present (revenue, turn around) it could be viewed as successful.

This is bad bad news for dealing with the young core 3 before July 1, 2023.

If management decided this ...... i'm not a fan of this plan.

Replacing Dubas after July 1st.... sure.

Best wishes for Kyle Dubas. He stood up for the team, defended the core four and all they did in return was underperformed and let him down. In a market like this where this team should of celebrated a Stanley Cup win, I cannot blame him for leaving.

Why did Dubas and the Leafs part ways?

In what we assume was Dubas’ final press conference as Leafs GM, he was open about the serious emotional toll this past year had on him and his family. Elliotte Friedman, who first broke the news, would later report that Dubas told MLSE any decision on his future would only come after a lengthy conversation with his family. It feels fair to assume then that — at least in some part — the toll of the position and season led to Dubas not renewing his contract with the Leafs.

What will the next Leafs GM have on their plate?

There are no shortage of massive decisions for the next GM. Should one or more of the core four forwards, two of whom have only one year remaining on their contracts, be traded? Trading any one of those players doesn’t feel like a winnable deal at first glance for the Leafs.

The next GM will have to carefully consider both the options available in a trade, and what kind of identity they want this Leafs team to have moving forward. And what’s to become of coach Sheldon Keefe, who was brought up through the Leafs organization by Dubas? Keefe only has one playoff series win to his name as Leafs head coach. It feels fair to assume that the next GM would bring in a new coach to suit their vision.

What they’re saying

“I would like to thank Kyle for his unwavering dedication over these last nine seasons with the organization, including his last five as general manager,” Brendan Shanahan, president and alternate governor of the Maple Leafs, said. “Kyle fostered a great culture within our dressing room and staff, and consistently pushed to make our team better season over season. We wish Kyle and his family the best moving forward and thank him for his valuable contributions.”

I don't think Dubas fans realize how instrumental the talent he INHERITED was into propelling the regular season success of the club. All Dubas did was foment a strong losing culture (not to mention the bonehead Kadri trade). Leafs will be better off but only if they hire somebody with a resume of actual winning.

Lmao, seeing how he was with the org when we drafted Nylander.....
