"But hes going to be hired within minutes somewhere else!" - media
As if that factors into the decision making process.
Who in the media is saying that? I thought it was pretty clear Dubas will not be back as a GM this season if it's not with the Leafs.

Yes, let's trust Treliving with signings and trading a young star player, he's done well there.
Couldn't believe how many people thought that was a good trade for Calgary on HF Boards at the time. I saw it as a terrible trade for them instantly.

And this is why you don't go into a season with a guy in the last year of his deal...

The Leafs brass are currently held standing with their collective d's in their hands... and less than 45 days before being completely locked down on making future decisions of the team's star players.

Or the new GM won't use his firing coach card this early. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Keefe is now back next season. Leafs can then evaluate him with a new roster and without Dubas chirping in his ear 24/7.

Starting with a new coach will not affect him at all. The argument is Keefe should have been fired after the MTL series. Nobody would disagree.

Yes, he is.

Treliving is an employee of Calgary's until Jun 30th when his contract will expire.

He was not fired, he was simply not renewed.
Lol.

Ok let me re phrase: Did Treliving get demoted and is no longer the decision maker for CAL ?

Don't play that game me .. you will lose.

Kyle has been in place for 5 years, 9 in total with the organization. His fingerprints are on everything. If he has been relieved of his duties, so should a lot of the people under the umbrella he structured. Keefe needs to go, AGM's need to go. Start from scratch.

I am not interested in having competing philosophies for the next little bit. If they do the Rutherford/Budreau shit I will lose my mind. Such a shit show going into one of the more important off-season's in recent history.

Oh hey there….

I wouldn’t be shocked if Dubas just decided he doesn’t to be tied to this core group any longer. I mean, not as people or even entirely as players either, but Dubas might look at this and say I have 3 guys (34, 16, 88) all due new big money contracts soon, all with concerns regarding playoff underperformance and my legacy is going to be tied to making the right call on how to approach which ones to trade, which ones sign etc. I think you can show faith in them to a point and then you have to change something and that’s where he may be with an unclear feeling about what the actual correct answer is. Doubling down on this core with new deals will put him clearly under fire imo if things go south. As would trading what proves to be the wrong one. It’s easy to see the path to staying blowing up in his face if he’s looking pessimistically and what else have they really given him

Further that he has a coach he’s very good friends with who likely needs to be fired.

The worst case scenario is he already knows something bad that’s coming down the pipe with our core resignings and isn’t interested in being the GM when it goes down

I mean or it’s actually just family related

It's finally over now.

As it should be. As it should have been years ago. This farce went on far too long.

Like a wounded animal that needing to be put out of its misery.

Whether it was because Shanahan was actually bamboozled by this guys baloney. Or if Dubas just found it easier to manage a team with lower expectations. I don't know.

What I do know is that he was truly awful.

Dubas is the worst manager the Leafs had in a long time. That's saying a lot considering the garbage they've employed in recent history. Anyone who takes over now can’t be much worse.

One thing is for sure, whoever it is will have their work cut out for them.

Fixing this mess won't be easy. And make no mistake about it, this team is in a mess. Attracting someone successful, someone experienced, may be difficult.

Two of the most respected executives in the NHL in Lou Lamoriello and Mike Babcock were discarded like yesterday's trash by ML$E in favour of these clowns.

I'm sure other GM's have taken notice.

You mean like the 105 points and first round loss in addition to a perfectly executed tank job that was performed before he got here?
Dubas loyalists don't like facts shhh.

He came in with the core already there. Added the only piece to the core that has been a anchor (Tavares) - which messed cap up. Handed out insane contracts too early for the rest because of that mistake. No money left for the rest of the spots.

Defense - Disaster
Goalies - Constantly neglected during his tenure and bit Leafs in the ass every year.

How many quality prospects is he leaving this organization with? How many wasted 1st round picks?

This tenure will be viewed as a disaster by any objective fan in the coming years. Good riddance.

CJ on TSN:

* Became apparent this morning that this is where it would end up.

* Comments he made on locker exit day, caught organization really off-guard. Definitely felt extension talks were being had, but when Kyle opened the door to him not being "All-in", it cast doubt.

*Not sure how the team will spin it - organization decision vs Kyle's personal decision. Had some sources tell him it was a team decision, but he's not so sure.

* Dubas was a huge part of this team, including off the ice. Says he's stunned that the organization moved off him. Doesn't think Dubas was out of answers, and would have bet on him continuing to grow and evolve on the job.

* Has no sense of who the new GM would be. Makes the prediction of who coaches this team next season impossible.

* Wonders what this means for Matthews' extension. Speculates that he won't be signing before July 1st anymore, until he knows who the new GM is and what the plan is moving forward.
Wow did CJ start crying on the air?

I thought he built a pretty good team. Our roster for the playoffs this year was pretty stacked.

His mistake I think was with the coaches. I don't think Babcock or Keefe ever got the most out of the talented players we had.
