Luke Fox brought up a super interesting point on the Fan Morning Show today that I don't think got enough play, but may have also complicated matters in the Dubas counter-offer to the Leafs at the last minute that may have contributed to the end of the relationship.

He said that Dubas' agent at Wasserman, Chris Armstrong, is actually not a hockey agent, but heads up the golf department at the agency. He knows Dubas through Brock. Anyway, in golf, agents negotiate with sponsors and will usually throw out astronomical asks, with counter offers throw back by sponsors. So maybe on some level they got a golf guy who didn't know the right industry protocols making an inappropriate ask at a sensitive time in the negotiation/powerplay and that sealed the deal.
I'm going to listen to it after the game. But I'll tell ya, if that's true, then Dubas is absolutely horrible at making decisions and reading the room.

Doug armstrong is team canada gm and he actually took one of if not the worst skater in the nhl to the world championship on bigger ice. I dont have confidence i a gm who took lucic to europr
Well, the management team consists of Doug Armstrong, Steve Yzerman, Shane Doan and Scott Salmond

What's up with that facial expression on Chris Johnston? What is that? Is it a parody of something?

I remember the first time I saw Chris Johnston on Sportsnet. You could visibly see the guy shaking on-air. He was so awkward and nervous. It's nice to see him become more comfortable over the years, but he's definitely a little odd.

Both Fox and Futa offered some great insight. It's interesting that an actual hockey guy has zero concern about Matthews leaving and pretty much laughed off the idea that he would leave because Dubas was fired.

IMO he also confirmed what many of us know, that Keefe demands zero accountability from the group (when he talked about Sutter being the one who kept the players accountable.)

Rasmus Sandin still under contract for 1.4 million next year. I wonder if he will go ppg next season? I’ll miss Dubas though, he is a generational GM that achieved so much here during his tenure.
He didn't achieve the playoff results. I liked him too, but he is gone.

It would gross incompetence by Leafs Management to let Matthews get to July 1st with no extension agreement in principle. If he doesn't make that agreement he has to be traded for the best possible return.
Why would another team trade for Matthews unless that team first got an agreement-in-principle for him to sign July 1st?
I don’t understand why you wouldn’t negotiate that in private with Shanahan. Why Dubas didn’t sit down with him and talk about the things he didn’t like on the contract. Not say ok, go to a press conference, bring his family into it, ghost Shanny for a few days and then deliver a new contract offer?
Try this theory: Dubas decided mid-week he didn't want to come back and told his agent to send MLSE a ridiculous counter-offer ($7M + tons of perks) that Dubas knew would get him fired.
Why are we letting Pitt talk to him early? Seems he screwed us.
That's up to MLSE, not Dubas. It's also a courtesy in case the situation is ever reversed.
I somehow think the Illuminati is involve with this whole thing
I am not!
its simmons so not sure how to take this but hey... its something i guess :dunno:

Tanenbaum is mainly there as a figurehead and only has limited power at MLSE. Bell & Rogers make the big decisions.

We lost to a Zamboni driver. It's still a meme today on /r/nfl. We won 1 series that we were the much worse team in in 7 years. Got swept afterwards.

We need to fire everyone including Keefe, Shanny, and Dubas.

I doubt that happens now.

Keefe is probably too closely associated with Dubas at this point and it looks like the bad blood is flowing.

I’m guessing once a new GM is in place there will be a purge of everyone closely tied to Dubas.

Bozo the Keefe is just a God-awful coach.

Doesn’t matter if he’s associated with Dubas or if he’s associated with a pedophile like David Frost, errrr….

Why is the board doing active decision making day to day?

I feel for Dubas now.

Fire Shanny and Keefe.

Brad Treliving, or anyone else stepping into the current Toronto tempest, will want a defined chain of command, presumably where he would have autonomy on significant personnel decisions.

There are conflicting reports Kyle Dubas was trying to establish just that with Brendan Shanahan and the MLSE board, seeking more power to ‘streamline’ hockey decisions in his contract extension talks just before Friday’s sudden firing.

Counter arguments suggest Dubas had much of that authority already and other than having his moves rubber stamped, the buck should rest with him if something went wrong.

This bickering is part of an unsurprising schism developing in the Leafs front office after Dubas’ sudden departure, pitting his loyalists against ‘Team Shanahan.’ Keep in mind Dubas hasn’t yet had his rebuttal to Shanahan’s version of how the firing unfolded, when the latter hinted a late change in the framework to Dubas’s extension by agent Chris Armstrong was the deal breaker.

It’s understandable that uber-impatient fans of the Leafs don’t need to hear about more potential impediments to team success, whether the board has every right to sign off on expensive decisions or should shut up and let their chosen GM do their job.

Shanahan is being second-guessed for the way he originally structured the Leafs’ hockey office in 2014, the back-to-front hirings of Dubas, Brandon Pridham, Mike Babcock and finally Lou Lamoriello as GM. But in the case of Dubas and Pridham, there was strong belief that summer they’d be snapped up by other teams if Toronto didn’t act fast.

YOUR MOVE, BRENDAN

Shanahan is torn by the urge to get someone proven in trades and contract negotiations ASAP to handle any hot-button issues with the roster beginning July 1. Topping that is Auston Matthews with his no-move clause that kicks in on the final year of his deal in five weeks, ditto for a no-move clause for Mitch Marner’s final two seasons and William Nylander’s 10-team no-trade clause in his encroaching last year.

Or does the boss actually wait and see who else might shake loose around the league now that the plumb high-paying job in Toronto is on the table?

While it’s thought Shanahan is wasting time hoping an established exec such as St. Louis’s Doug Armstrong, would ever leave his team, the long game after June 30, when contracts are up, could change that.
It’s also when GM Stan Bowman and coach Joel Quenneville could be permitted to return after an extended time-out by the league, punishment for their inaction in the Kyle Beach case during their time with the Chicago Blackhawks a few years ago.

Would they take down the meme if the Leafs did that?

Imagine shilling for Dubas every post then wondering who you're golden boy is

Alright I'm not trying to single you out here but this is without a doubt my biggest pet peeve on this board: everyone's a shill. I don't have an opinion based on reasons but because oo I wuv luv Kyle Dubas and spend the games making googly eyes at him in the press box. Here's my opinion on Kyle Dubas in 2 sentences. Competent, but misguided. Rational, but wrong. That combination is liable to get you fired at any job, but here's the rub, that's not why he was fired. I would've fired my own golden boy on merit, and your apparent golden boy didn't. And you're calling me a shill. It's comical. No, I'm not defending Dubas, I'm attacking Shanahan and the rest of the executive for calling corporate cannibalism a hockey decision, because that garbage pisses me the f*** off, because I had the pleasure of watching 708 Leafs games between 2004 and 2014. And I can't wrap my head around why so many of you are fine with the return of this mickey mouse shit.

She’s claiming to be mentally handicapped and suing the Canucks for firing her because of it.

She thinks too highly of herself. If you actually followed the story. Nucks actually tried to find a role for her bc she couldn’t really cut it(as it seems) on the role. Eventually, she got canned and then stated she was discriminated against and her proof of doing good at her job was a reporter asking Bruce, what do you think of her, at a charity golf event and JR’s comment on her, the day she was introduced to the press.
At least that’s all that I read.
