Nothing floated from the Dubas camp makes any logical sense if you thought things through.

1) The pressure of the job is hard on family life. He may take time to step away from his post. But he spoke to the public before his family.

2) The job strain on the family was an unknown factor on the home life on Monday afternoon. By Thursday, Dubas was ready to assume even more responsibilities by 'streamlining' the process, presumably taking some of Shanahan's reporting duties to the board. Ok, that's one way to deal with work stress, take on even more...

3) MLSE is so dysfunctional with meddlesome owners which may impact the critical negotiations this summer. Okay, on the surface it sounds like a reasonable, time honoured critique of MLSE. However, the approval of the board doesn't go away with a streamlined reporting structure. It just cuts out a layer of management above the GM level.

4) Shanahan put his foot down pretty quickly and decisively on Friday, assuming with board support before Victoria Day Long Weekend. So how dysfunctional is MLSE when they can move that quickly on a big item?

The only framing from the Dubas side I've seen is the suggestion that job is a pain in the butt, we are mired in chaos as a backwards organization. Everyone else is incompetent, and you'll be lucky to have me (Dubas) reluctantly return and solve the problems no one else can and Shanny can kick rocks and go the way of Lamoriello, Hunter and Babcock.

I dunno man, you'd have to think the board of directors are seasoned political and corporate operators, as is Shanahan, and they acted very decisively.

We literally saw him negotiate a trade on camera

Dude added another pick on the spot

He might have had to run stuff by Shanny maybe but it's hilarious to think he had to call up a dude at Rodgers to make trades

"Please state the reason you're calling Rogers today. If you're looking for permission for a trade, please say I'd just a GM and I need permission for a trade."

"I'm sorry you're having trouble. Please call back later."

“We are currently experiencing higher than average volume due to the trade deadline. Your call is valuable to us, please stay on the line.”

They'll probably like ask you to enter a PIN or something for trade authorization, and then it would only go through if you agree to take part in a post-call survey or some shit.

All GMs make mistakes especially if you’re a rookie but all in all imo Dubas is a good GM and I think both him and Shanahan handled this situation poorly.

Dubas just straight up messed up for himself by saying what he said in the press conference and I think his intentions were negotiation based (lousy strategy) and Shanahan might have over analyzed this whole situation and in the end fired someone he actually wanted to keep.

Rather have Keefe than Dubas. It wasn't Keefe who decided Jarnkrok, Kerfoot, and Bunting should be the top three LW. Also wasn't Dubas who decided three of Gio, Holl, Lili, Gus should be the leafs 4-6 D.

I have no problem allowing Keefe to finish out his last season without Dubas around with a hopefully different roster.
I doubt that happens now.

Keefe is probably too closely associated with Dubas at this point and it looks like the bad blood is flowing.

I’m guessing once a new GM is in place there will be a purge of everyone closely tied to Dubas.

Yea isn’t Pridham tied to Dubas hip? He seems very important. Will he bolt?

Brandon Pridham will be the acting general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs while Brendan Shanahan begins his search for Kyle Dubas’ replacement. It confirms what Shanahan told the media during Friday’s presser: he would be leaning on Toronto Maple Leafs assistant GM Brandon Pridham during this transition phase for the NHL hockey club.
