Is this true that Shanny balked at trading Knies? Any other leaks, because Dubas new found fondness for grit, wonder what role Shanny played there? Was it a Dubas epiphany or Shanny being more involved?
When has Shanny ever demonstrated he wants a physical game?
He seems like he feels guilty about the way he played and is now outspoken about concussions and fighting. The changes he pushed in 2005 made the game softer and more dependent on the PP. His time on the DOPS oversaw an increase in suspensions for borderline calls. The coach he handpicked was Mike “the powerplay is our enforcer” Babcock who refused to play guys like Martin in the playoffs. Now he wants to bring the soft core 4 back.
Other than his “killer instinct” comment is Shanny on record ANYWHERE calling for more physicality?
Maybe it’s not him but it’s Rogers/Bell needing a kosher product to push that can’t have guys concussing people when the corporate level has a big stake in mental health for their PR. Players get less physical when they come here, it happens enough that it must be a push from some level of the organization. If that push survives Dubas and Keefe leaving, clearly it wasn’t coming from them.
