Is this true that Shanny balked at trading Knies? Any other leaks, because Dubas new found fondness for grit, wonder what role Shanny played there? Was it a Dubas epiphany or Shanny being more involved?

When has Shanny ever demonstrated he wants a physical game?

He seems like he feels guilty about the way he played and is now outspoken about concussions and fighting. The changes he pushed in 2005 made the game softer and more dependent on the PP. His time on the DOPS oversaw an increase in suspensions for borderline calls. The coach he handpicked was Mike “the powerplay is our enforcer” Babcock who refused to play guys like Martin in the playoffs. Now he wants to bring the soft core 4 back.

Other than his “killer instinct” comment is Shanny on record ANYWHERE calling for more physicality?

Maybe it’s not him but it’s Rogers/Bell needing a kosher product to push that can’t have guys concussing people when the corporate level has a big stake in mental health for their PR. Players get less physical when they come here, it happens enough that it must be a push from some level of the organization. If that push survives Dubas and Keefe leaving, clearly it wasn’t coming from them.

We won't know until we hear his side of the story. For all we know the Shanahan offer didn't provide the autonomy he wanted. Maybe he slept on it, asked for concessions and Shanahan said no.

It amazes me that a lot of people (not saying you are) are taking what Shanahan is saying as the "100% truth" in all of this.

I'd be saying the same thing too if we only heard Dubas' side of the story first and never heard what Shanahan had to say.
They’re all back stabbing SOB’s imo, kudos to Shanahan for getting ahead of this as much as I despise him Dubas is a snake who’s cap mgmt will never work, therefore the worse of two evils…….

"Autonomy" is a loaded word people aren't thinking about enough here, as in "from whom" and "to do what." That implies a promotion, and in a hierarchy, it's a zero sum game taking control away from someone else. And based on what does Kyle deserve those things?
Having autonomy is a dangerous thing, since retiring I hold the power to every decision I make, I only do what I want to do which makes me a difficult to live with (just ask my wife) everyone should answer to someone if you want to maintain balance and harmony imo……….

I wouldn't read too much into the core 4 staying together thing yet. If they actually do bring all 4 back they deserve all the damnation in the world but they can't tell each player they're looking to trade them right now until they sort out the GM situation.

Was this just said now? I never heard anything about this.

Shanny wasn't going to tell them that they will be traded. His goal was to inform them that the GM has been let go which he did.

also in terms of "Core 4" does that includ Rielly? if yes, then who was left out?

Anyway, the new GM will come in and sort it all out. I don't believe the new GM will have 4 forwards at 50% of the cap allocated while the defense and goalie is a hailmary and other roster spots to fill

As WN sits watching his countrymen play hockey he’s left to ponder what’s next………

O'Reilly is UFA, so he's left out.

Cap in Order:
Matthews, Tavares, marner, O'Reilly, Rielly, Nylander, Brodie, Murray

I'm far from his biggest fan but I'd like to keep him if the price was reasonable. I dislike him less than I do AM and MM.

Hitler had autonomy too right. Always be weary of people seeking more power and consolidating it in one place.

Whether: sports (muskoka culture -> leafs); real life (ex: marriage), politics, work, etc....

hey at least thats my 2 cents ;)

BTW did WN skip out on last Monday's end of season festivities on the pretense of joining that team or did I hear that incorrectly?
Not sure if he dodged the circus, but I’ll bet cottage country, Sweden, and the desert this summer feels a little different than normal. BTW who get to go to the desert and wash 34’s feet this summer? Asking for a friend……….

I might be failing with the finer details on this but I believe he was kinda late getting there and didn't want to take a roster spot of someone for this failing, also roster spot may be going to Alex Nylander so William has bowed out.

Someone else may be able to give you something firmer than that though.

So here we are, a GM that hasnt proven himself to be able to effectively negotiate reasonable contracts (incl. his own), and is asking for more autonomy in deploying the business’ capital, is not going to get it. Dubas thought he was safer than he was, and overplayed his hand by the look of it. Unlikely this was a one time occurence, and likely more the straw that broke the camels back. Shanny had enough. Remember, this was his guy.

He was at the end of year Leafs presser last week and said he was going to the WC's but apparently changed his mind because it meant their team would have sat out other players that were there since the start (like his brother) and he didn't want to do that.
