its kind of wild actually that Dubas said that about Keefe then Keefe talks at the post season presser on how the leafs missed an opportunity to win the cup....like wtf? The cup?......holy putting the cart before the horse batman

Our core plays for the $$$. Marleau probably came in and said, kids, at the end of the day you only have one body and the money you earn. So take care of your body, don't worry about the cup and make as much as you can. That's the life, set your future families up for life.

I mean think about it. If you wanted to take a break to work on family then you do that. You don't counter that pay me more money because all of a sudden the same family stress is going to magically go away

everyone has stress in their life 1) bills to pay, 2) some family members are not doing well (health), 3) your siblings' or their own marriage didn't last, 4) someone's kid is having issue, 5) someone lost their job, 6) mortgage payments just went up but income didn't, etc....

thats part of life. And I do sympathize with things that are out of our control and when unfortunate things happen I really do sympathize.

I mean everyone manages stress and relationships to the best of their ability. Although I can appreciate that your demanding job would make your own life a bit more tiring/stressful as you have to navigate personal and professional life. But if am not wrong, if it became too demanding then may be you will take a break from one i suppose you would be willing to take less pay to keep your family together and manage your own stress levels. I mean eventually we all go and all we have left are memories and life well lived; not how much money we made b/c 90% of the popualtion on the planet is never going to be filthy rich because we make the other 10% filthy rich as we collectively buy the stuff that thet other 10% sell always ;).

You wouldn't counter that hey give me more money because the stress that comes with your job isn't going away, it will still be there. Chances are that if you are getting paid more you are given more responsibility and you would spend even less time with your family.

Dubas' action of demanding more money IMO just shows that he was just using media to negotiate better deal for himself.

At least that is my 2 cents
Its really a stretch to see it any other way

Stan Bowman?
Perhaps unsure though I hope the Doug Armstrong rumors is more true
People are losing their shit on twitter about this but apparently it's common
It is but it is also showing how unprepared we were for this
Hold up. He is going to ask Gary Bet99man for advice on picking a GM?

Ok it really is a clown organization. If that's true, he should resign. If he doesn't have a plan B and was basically non existent all season long and has to ask Gary Bet99man, I mean, I can't even lol.
It's a normal thing but we aren't prepared haha or maybe he has inside track on how is unhappy

This. Plus he didn't think Shanny would can him and would accept his new financial terms with all the decisions that have to be made this off-season. Didn't think Shanny would look elsewhere. Lol. Points to Dubas' ego. Guy was out to lunch throughout his time here. Should have never gotten the gig.
I'm just really glad shanny had that eureka moment instead of spinning our wheels with this clown.

Mirtle and CJ are definitely close with Dubas but I don't think I'd put Jonas in that camp. He was pretty critical of him a lot over the years.
Even CJ said after the Monday presser there is no way you can run it back and that at least 2 of gm, coach core 4 got to go.

In this context Shanny as President should have done a better job imo getting a read on Dubas much earlier.

His statement about being caught off guard by what Dubas' had said I think is pretty telling that the two had pretty severe two way communication issues

It's Shannys job to make sure the front office was running smoothly - which clearly wasn't the case
And the fact he thought Dubas was his guy for the next 5 yrs makes me nervous....but better late than never?

I think Shanny is on the clock here, but it seems a page has really turned. And perhaps this was the spark the organization needed.

wohhhh is this true? i thought he was retired happily collecting his pay from MLSE and living it up lol
Teams have reached out to Babcock almost every year since he got fired from the Leafs.

He's interviewed with teams and everything but there's probably a few different reasons he hasn't coached again yet. I imagine he'll be right back into coaching this year since he's fully paid up from the Leafs and can get more income.

Nobody wants to buy out his current contract most likely. Probably exploratory meetings and he will be coaching again soon enough.

Dubas must go! 5 years of failure is too much!

Shanny is alright, 9 years is okay.

Dubas said he would be making changes to the roster too.

Shanny wanted to run it back with Dubas.

This place is hilarious praising Shanny so much for being strong. He looks confused right now, not strong.

Spark?

Or Dubas hid his true feelings till that "necessary" press conference. Shanny mentioned having multiple hour long convos about the team with Dubas. I think what happened here is Dubas got slighted by going into this year without an extension. And then when they came to him wanting to extend him he thought now I'm desired now I can play my hand. This whole thing was an elaborate play and Dubie was playing two sides of the coin. Two faced rat.
It almost feels like Dubas thought he had all the leverage...In the next 6 weeks there were multiple star player contracts to deal with, 11 ufa's etc and that there wouldnt be time for anyone else to do it in the way he could and it almost worked but he just couldnt keep his mouth shut...thank goodness.

It doesn't really add up though, theres a better play to put him more in demand. Just say you love it here, your contract is expiring and may need to see your options, but this is home. Speculations will drive up dollars over night.

The whole "leveraging family for money" logic doesnt make any sense to me unless it was genuine.
Or he got really terrible advice from his agent who thought they held all the cards.

Man...the GM that's gonna be walking into this is going to have a massive storm to course through.

well not every gm gets to walk into a cozy situatin that dubas walked into, and then go on to ruin everything.

dubas is the poster child of entitlement and nepotism.

new GM will do whats best for the team. I have zero doubt

I told you shanny is on the clock and he would have been wrong to extend this dipstick Dubas, but serendipitously we are going a different direction and for that I am hopeful.

Big mistake by this organization. This entire situation screams of ownership meddling. Shanahan wants to keep Dubas but all of a sudden because he asks for more money, he is gone. Why not negotiate with him? Or hold firm with said offer & tell him to take it or leave it? They wanted him gone.

Now with 5 weeks to go, you have to make important decisions with little time to do so. What kind of GM are you going to get now? Why not do this at a moment when you have time to review your options thoroughly? All of this screams of a lack of foresight & strategic thinking at the top. Too many simpleton board members who stroke their own ego pretending to be hockey men. You are not hockey men, you don’t know anything about the sport.

How is a new GM going to fix this team when he doesn’t know any of the players? The only person to fix this was Dubas because he knew this whole operation.
That is what Dubas thought. He was banking on it I for one glad Shanny and the Leafs finally woke up. Looking back l think he was a fraud.

Could you imagine another 5 years of this guy? Dubas also prob looked at Babcock situation and said hey at least im secured with a bag and if they fire me I can chill with my kids. Can't trust that guy.
Dubas will be lucky if any other org pays him even half of what he was going to get here. Talk about overplaying your hand when you're holding a 4 and a 9
