Alright, here's my current read. Those of you not too busy either dancing on Dubas grave or crying over it can let me know what you think.
I'm not in to conspiracy stuff. My son was in near tears today because he couldn't find his camp knife, thought his sister took it and hid it. OR.. is it in the pile of laundry from the shirt you were wearing whose pocket it was in bud lol... there it is of course.
Okay, so what happened here? Something went sideways. Probably never know what. But here's my take.
Everything is tickety-boo in this story right up to Sunday from Shanahan's telling. They have maintained respectful communication, Shanahan walks in with an extension based on negioiations with agent, it is well received, tells Kyle go talk it over with the family first, and they talk for hours about the team. Par for the course.
Something, not worth guessing at, happens Sunday night in the Dubas household on a family level. Has to be right? He finds out.. something.. about how hard it has been on his family. Enough that it makes him go "god damn eh?".
So he comes in Monday genuinely rattled. Has that bizarre presser which I will continue to believe was honest emotion. Now we are gone sideways.
Bunkers down a couple of days really hashing it out with the family. There is some serious concerns about what he has learned.. I am not suggesting anything sinister, maybe it is just like hey Kyle, this is not how I can live for another 5 years, it's too much? Whatever. Something that is genuinely enough to be considering can I really keep doing this job.
The end of that process leads to Thursday, he has decided with his family that it's not worth it unless they can agree to some big league conditions, monetary among them, and emails Shanahan all about it. Seems like an emotional decision, which as usual are poor ones. I bet he's thinking this is a reasonable request based on what I have learned about my family here.
Shanahan, as a president should, has watched this go down with growing concern, and correctly surmises.. it ain't working out for him or us here, time to cut bait.
You'd think a massive miscalculation by Dubas, and probably so, but in the end it's kinda like he said Monday.. he had to decide if he was able to continue doing the job, decided only if the compensation was dramatically increased, and was told no thanks.
Dude, I think we broke him.
