Like I would love this to be a savvy hire but the PoHO has largely been a completely useless position here under multiple ownership groups.

Dubas will join a long and prestigious list of past POHO's here. Like Burke and uh... the guy... Mario... hired... that one time.

Wait have there even been any other guys? Uncharted territory! Man it'll be exciting finding out all the stuff we can blame on him.

I'm riding with you on this. Him getting a hard on and chasing Tavares doomed that team. He then did absolutely nothing to fix a top heavy roster. People saying he has a lot to fix here - Trevling has a lot to fix there too.

Isn't this the case with almost all hires, though? GM's rarely get hired for teams that are already there.

Does the President actually have to live in the city or is he just going to have zoom meetings and fly in a few times a year?
I don't believe he would have to, which was my initial thought. He can continue living in Toronto and the GM can be the face here. I think many front office guys live somewhere other than the team they are working for. Jason Karmanos was working in Buffalo and he lives down the street from me.

Yo Tavares to the leafs wasn’t a Dubas move. I’m not saying he was or wasn’t on board, but it wasn’t his decision.

Okay there’s a bit of go through here

1) im surprised to see YOU, of all people, having such a strong reaction to this

2) this is really the fresh start for FSG. Not everyone from the previous group was out of the way when Burke and Hextall were brought in.

So let’s say this is the first “fully fsg” front office. In that case, past precedent means very little. For all we know (and I’m betting this is true) FSG’s vision of a poho is different than what we’ve seen before

3) why does what every poho in the past did matter? I didn’t marry every woman I dated. Things change
lord knows, I hope you’re right and I’d love to be wrong. But until I see the PoHO actually have some tangible influence on the team, I’m going to be skeptical.

So the first time the team loses 3 games in a row, Rossi can unleash a scathing article about the absentee POHO. Everyone wins.

It is a fair cop that this isn’t some long-tenured thing here, I’m just saying the last PoHO Hank was supposed to have just as much power, was known for being opinionated, and was immediately completely sidelined.

Maybe it was Hextall? I’m willing to be wrong, as I said. But it’s not like we saw the previous regime give it a lot of weight.

We have to consider Dubas' position here. There's some assumptive thinking.

Dubas certainly didn't need this job, in fact took this damn long to accept it seems to confirm. FSG wanted him and was apparently willing to meet his requests.

Why would a former GM who had all of the power in this negotiation accept a powerless, ceremonial figurehead position?

Sure, but I wouldn't say he's a savior. I don't think he did anything revolutionary in Toronto. I think a really good GM is able to tinker a roster like JR did when we won the Cups. Dubas to me likes big moves, and it's probably because he was in Toronto and they eat that shit up. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, but for people who love bringing up how stubborn management and coaching has been - Dubas to me isn't a reprieve from that.

Dubas is literally the second person ever to have this job

And they didn't simultaneously announce a GM... who do you think is now going to be hiring the gm.

When Burke was hired his job was nit really the traditional role for that title

Dubas likely is doing what the job is supposed to be

Really fantastic having grade A losers coming here and telling us we hired a grade A loser.

Dubas will have media availability this afternoon, should hopefully clear up some questions we have. If the fantastic Pittsburgh media can do a decent job...

So, we’re going on what we hope the PoHO should be now?

Hextall and Burke were a tandem hire... and it was clearly Hextall's team

Never was it suggested that Burke would be the guy with the veto.

This time is so obviously different otherwise Dubas would be GM too
