In general, being a GM is downgrade, yeah? I'm an overly negative person so when I see this I feel like him not being GM here gives him an out to be GM where he really wants to be in the future. Am I way off here here? Do I need to learn to happy?

So does this mean a GM is going to be hired to work under him or is he doing it all?…

thank god this is done
It’s gonna rule when we hire f***ing Olczyk to GM this team and ignore the PoHO which has been a largely ceremonial position here

This gives him job stability beyond what a GM has.

He hires and fires GMs
Yeah Brian Burke fired a ton of GMs here

Also most teams will let you interview for a promotion, but not lateral or demotion. This could very well be FSG preventing someone like Ottawa asking to interview Penguins "GM" Dubas to be their President.

How come no one here took the initiative to make a post on main boards?

Leave it to a Sens fan to break the news.

Or do you guys just dont care what the rest of the league has to say ?

Correct.

Had to work all morning and missed the excitement. Bah.

I guess at least I didn't choose the wrong shift to sleep like Rossi.

The GM will probably be someone Dubas has some relationship with, but Sam Ventura would be a cool higher. A Dubas/Ventura pairing would at least be really forward thinking which is going to be needed.

POHO is officially higher on the totem pole. Got to think he was offered whatever role he wanted and chose this role because he wants it and the responsibilities attached. Never say never but this doesn't feels like Dubas taking a role to give himself an out, this feels like Dubas taking a role that allows him to shape an org in his image in the way he wanted to do in Toronto. I don't think there's any particular reason to worry about this.

Like I would love this to be a savvy hire but the PoHO has largely been a completely useless position here under multiple ownership groups.

"Dubas, 37, will oversee all aspects of the Penguins hockey operations department including establishing the strategic vision and philosophy for the franchise."

BUT BUT BUT the Insiders said no ?

Since there's only been one here before Dubas, and he wasn't hired by current ownership, I don't see any point to looking for historical precedent as to what his role is.
I’m pretty sure that for all his faults Brian Burke wasn’t devoid of opinions and input. In the end it was an absolutely useless position here.

I’m eager to be proven wrong, but I have no faith in this team until they actually prove it.

Name a single PoHO here who fired the GM?
I will be honest, I have no idea what a PoHO does all day long aside from cause problems for GM's and make it harder to get things done. I can only assume making Dubas the PoHO makes him a super GM that avoids this useless layer of management, and the GM hire will end up being like an AGM that gets paid more, and has a specific specialty or niche, like analytics expert.

Okay there’s a bit of go through here

1) im surprised to see YOU, of all people, having such a strong reaction to this

2) this is really the fresh start for FSG. Not everyone from the previous group was out of the way when Burke and Hextall were brought in.

So let’s say this is the first “fully fsg” front office. In that case, past precedent means very little. For all we know (and I’m betting this is true) FSG’s vision of a poho is different than what we’ve seen before

3) why does what every poho in the past did matter? I didn’t marry every woman I dated. Things change

Isnt POHO a pretty new position for this organization? IIRC, Shero and JR were both GM and VP. I dont remember there being any Hockey person above them. Burke was the first POHO
He was but he was brought in as this “big voice in the room that was going to shape things” and he did literally nothing. No long pants hockey, no goons, no physicality. We got Granlund.

Like I said, I hope I’m wrong, but until FSG gets some results, I’m going to be skeptical.
