Dubas spoke pretty glowingly about Sullivan in the press conference.I think Sullivan stays but we can gauge the amount of leash he has by what happens with the assistants and WB/S HC. Dubas inherited Babcock but hired his guy for the Marlies and that’s who he promoted for the Leafs once Babcock was out. NHL HCs nowadays take assistant jobs rather than sitting around waiting for mid-season openings so it’s important to have someone within the organization you’re comfortable with promoting.
Guessing he brings in one of the Marlies current assistants for WB/S, or Eric Wellwood who is Toronto’s ECHL affiliate HC and quite young and relatively forward-thinking like Dubas. Not Kyle.
"If we can do good work on the long-term building, Sully can coach forever," Dubas said. "He's a great coach. So there's no real expiration date on Mike."
Obviously, circumstances can change, but sounds like Dubas has the same opinion most all the hockey world has on Sullivan.
