Weird that he plans on hiring a GM after FA starts, unless he already knows who he wants and they are still under contract until July 1. Either hire someone now or wait until next off season. Being temporary GM for a couple months makes little sense.
It's more about getting permission while teams are in draft and free agency prep.

More likely to pry someone loose after those major deadlines.

I agree he chooses his victims with intent. No doubt about it. His lambs are spared. Bylsma clone is a bit harsh, but kind of funny.
Sullivan having this weird cult like status is the weirdest f***ing thing in the world. Even Dubas somehow thinks this coach is worth his time.

Sullivan already gave him a list of players he wishes to destroy with his usage. After that they just need a GM as a scapegoat.

Mate, you ain't new here. Get with it you wanker.

So just name Sully GM already.

Friedman and Marek spoke prior to the Dubas press conference and Friedman said Brandon Pridham could be a target to be GM. Pridham was an assistant GM under Dubas, has been the Leafs' cap guru, had a previous role handling salary cap issues for the NHL.

As mentioned, Jason Spezza also a likely addition to the front office.

Friedman ruled out someone like Jason Botterill, but said it's possible that some of the young assistant GMs or scouting directors could be brought in. Friedman said the next big fight in the league is whether titles matter when it comes to poaching assistants from other teams. The argument would be if they hired say Pridham or Tulsky to be GM, are they really GM? Or is Dubas doing those duties and Pridham/Tulsky/whoever is just a GM in name only

From the sounds of Dubas's press conferences post playoff exit, he was burned out from GM work. I could see him wanting to be involved in the personal decisions, but not wanting to do the grunt work. Let the GM do the leg work, lend "advice" and approve decisions as Pres.

I really liked the Dubas hire earlier today.

Then I read the Leafs board.

Now I love the Dubas hire.

The amount of salt in Leafs land right now would preserve an entire farm of freshly slaughtered meat.

They're claiming the Pens tampered, that Dubas is a liar and manipulator, that he wasn't responsible for any of the Leafs' success. They're dreaming of scenarios where Sullivan is fired so Dubas can bring in Keefe, who pisses off Sid and Sid somehow ends up signing as a free agent in Toronto.

It is fantastic.

Any time your team can improve while thoroughly pissing off another franchise is a good day.

Yeah, the GM does the day to day work and when it's time to close a trade or sign a free agent, Dubas finishes it off if need be.

Well I know I’ve made a few posts here with some sarcastic flavour to it. Listen, there is enough hate in the world and I don’t need to be adding to it. so I’ll be a bit more factual with this post. He was a green executive and learned on the job in Toronto. He made some mistakes along the way. No GM is perfect, no human is perfect. But it is unfortunate for leaf fans Kyle botched some things in what was the Most important era in at the very least the cap era.

im glad pens fans are super positive about this hire.it’s a completely different situation then the situation in Toronto. Also a different position as well. It will likely be several years before Kyle can be accurately judged in Pittsburgh as Crosby, letang and malkin wind down their careers and take the eventual slow decline into retirement.

im not an advocate of kyle’s work in Toronto, but he seems to,really care about the people he works with and the the players under his vision. All the best to pens fans and to Kyle. Pens fans seem happy, Kyle seems happy, pens ownership seems happy. thats a good thing for everyone involved. Cheers.

In his defense he was pretty solid for us. Id take him back next year.
Honestly yes, of all our UFAs he's the one guy I'm happy to re-up for another 1x900k. Put another two-way guy with him on L4 with Carter and you have a half-decent 4th line. Then spend money on a brand new L3.

Of all our players I just don't see how you can complain about Archibald at 900k. Basically our only forward throwing timely checks and the only energy guy in our bottom-6 all last season.

I simply could not give any less of a shit if the Leafs or any other team in the league vanished overnight. Why would I care about another franchise?

Why is Sullivan speaking today? He our de facto GM? I hope the media plan to ask him about his input on players Dubas will bring in and whether they’ll play any more than 8 min a night

Now that Dubas is here and Sully is (sadly) still here, what are the odds of ZAR making a comeback?
pretty f***ing high...if you ask me, drop in some Lafferty and you got this awesome line: ZAR Carter Lafferty and Sully is happy for the next 10 years..

Dubas spoke pretty glowingly about Sullivan in the press conference.

"If we can do good work on the long-term building, Sully can coach forever," Dubas said. "He's a great coach. So there's no real expiration date on Mike."

Obviously, circumstances can change, but sounds like Dubas has the same opinion most all the hockey world has on Sullivan.
Just wait until Dubas makes a big acquisition to then have Sully bury him with 80% D-zone starts so he can keep GCRu together.

I don't know why people are upset about the "can coach forever" quote. That quote is coming from a guy who literally said a week ago its Toronto or bust. If results aren't there, he will fire Sully without a problem.

He did mention getting younger players, which is a bit intriguing. I wonder what are the real chance we could get Matthews or Nylander on the Pens. It was 0% last week but maybe now it's like 0.1%.

Maybe if they get to FA. Treliving won't move them here. If they do move one of those guys they'd move him west I think.

I'm ok with all of this just because of the potential for change. We've been super stale for way too long.

To comment on the Dubas hire I guess.

It is odd that he didn't just put out a statement saying he's excited. Weird for him to do a q&a on it.
